May 18, 2013 Magic EBTA Part Two - From Tejas to España

Since there seemed to be interest in collecting a little more information, I've updated the roll call to ask a few more questions.

Sorry to make you all do it again, but this will also let us know more true numbers of who is attending since the last roll call had been going since about this time last year.

The only fields you really need to fill out is Dis name and party description. Feel free to ignore anything else you're not interested in sharing. So, if you could please use this link to get your updated information into the Roll Call we'll be able to get a truer indication of numbers. It is now directly feeding a Google spreadsheet so will be immediately visible.

The old roll call can now be found at the bottom of the list of links as ZZZ - Old Roll Call

MandyGirl, could you please update the first page with the new link? I had to give it a new page so as to not lose the old information.
Thanks! :thumbsup2

When you do could you add the link to the photo walk

http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=47756725&postcount=972

Thanks...

I've added a window to that post from the website. If you're interested in managing that page yourself, PM me a Google Sites-enabled account. Or, let me know what (if anything) needs to be done to the page. We can add documents, instructions, whatever up on the website where we can't so much here on the Dis.

Add me to the Photo Walk(s) too please.

I'm using a Canon T3i. I bought the camera for this cruise last summer and have learned what I can on my own. Time for a real course at least. I've been trying to figure out if the starter lenses I got are enough. Probably due for a trip to the camera store.

However, I learned how to put it in sports mode. :goodvibes

Pleasure to have you, I added your name to the list. The starter lenses are a great way to get started, they might not be the sharpest and fastest glass out there but for a lot of people they never need anything more than that. But if your really interested in pushing your photography you will want to get a better lens, the Canon L glass is very good but also very expensive. One very affordable lens to get that allows great low light performance and creativity is what they call the nifty fifty (fix 50mm f/1.8). But a 24-70 f/2.8 is another great lens to go for. When it comes to traveling a great universal lens would be is something like a 18-300 or similar it's not the fastest glass (ie good low light performance) but it's a all around lens that can go wide and give you a good zoom at a fairly small package.

I could talk photography for hours but think this will be a good start for now ;)

Great image.. Did very well there.

Sure thing PM on it's way.

Heather thanks so much for grabbing the moisturiser. How much do I owe you for it?

You won't even believe how cheap it was! It was $4.99 I'm not even worried about it, glad I could help! A Mickey Bar on the ship in exchange will do ;)

Thank you so much, thats really kind. Is there anything "English" I can bring you that you like? Marmite? Cadburys chocolate? Sweets?

Can't believe how cheap it was, thats amazing. Amazon wanted to charge me £7 for the cream, plus another £7 for the postage, so £14 which is probably around $20 or a bit more? I really am very grateful. :)

I am assuming these are the ears that change colors. I have them from our DVC Member Cruise, and I would bring them if they would be used. Does anyone know?:confused3

We brought ours from the DVC Member cruise Sept 2012(Dream) onto the Magic cruise in January 2013. There was no Glow With the Show onboard the Magic. :sad2: Maybe they can only do that technology on the bigger, newer ships??? Sorry.

Happy Monday!! :goodvibes Hope everyone had a great weekend!!

Not a happy Monday morning here, walk into the office at 7am to find out the office is out of coffee! Try to turn on and log into my laptop (done with a fingerprint) and it isn't working! Finally my friend arrives and informed me that the fingerprint works better when you don't have a band-aid on! This is why I need my coffee-Daylight savings didn't help either. How many time zones changes are there? I hope the ship doesn't run out of coffee!

We are getting a whole new roof installed today on our house and all I can think about is how many cruises I could have taken for the cost of the roof.

68 days till I can forget about all of my first world problems!

Those Band-Aids can be tricky! ;)

I definitely need my coffee. I'm super bummed that it sucks so badly on the ship.

You should move to Hawaii. We don't do daylight savings here. It's happy hour the same time all year!

LINKED DINING

ive updated 1st page to show all those who have sent me their reservation numbers, still waiting on some but no rush, will send this in about a month before debarktion, so plenty of time for new cruisers to join in.

just to note, you do not need to sit with other disers, you can still request your own table, it just means we are requesting to be on same rotation and within same area of dining room.

great fun for pirate night, mickey mouse club night and formal night to see everyone we have been chatting and planning with for so long :thumbsup2

We'll be the family of four not dressed for Villains, Pirate, or Mickey Mouse Club night :scared1:. But I'm hopeful you all will love us anyway

Is it too late to do this? I would quite like to be seated in the same area as others. Do I need to do something with the link on the first page, or just send you my reservation number? We are late dining.

Nice, night aways are always nice... Of course it's a Nikon ;)
Thanks on the phone camera pic.

Sounds good to me.
Looks like for evening we are looking at
20, 22, 23, 26 or 27. Those are all sea days and don't look like there is any specific evening ship activities nor Dis board evening activities.
I *think* we are late dinner (or maybe this was the cruise we where on waiting list for late dinner), I think DW wouldn't be to upset on me for missing or being late or leaving early.

If we do a early AM one I would think maybe do it early on, I tend to get lazier later the longer the cruize gone but of course part of the problem I stay up to late and drink to much so get harder and harder to get going in the AM ... LOL

The 19th is PJ breakfast, MIGHT be a idea of doing it that AM since some of you might be up early already ;) otherwise my vote for a sunrise/early session would be the 20th.

We will do that..

I am happy for the 20th for sunrise/early session as that is the CC day isn't it? Happy to do even 3 walks, sunrise, sunset and maybe even night?

So are you talking about a photowalk on board (as sea) - If so I'd be up for that. I'll be taking load anyway - Here's my a sampling of pics I took on Fantasy last May

This is becoming more popular then I thought when I first suggested it :goodvibes

We do enjoy movies on cruises. I also saw Lincoln on the Dream in January! Is Disney Nature coming out with a film this Earth Day?

Bobbi:goodvibes

I know Chimpanzee is out in the UK soon but I think you guys had that a few years ago? We are pretty behind on the DN films, never even saw Oceans yet  Really upsets me they think we don't want to see them in the UK.

Just reconfirmed the formal, semi-formal and Pirate night dates with DCL. They are still the same that we were told previously. Any other dates or special onboard entertainment being brought onboard has not been released yet. She said to check back in April. :thumbsup2

Hopefully around then we start getting confirmations of private tastings, Palo group brunches, Champagne Girls, etc to populate the calendar with, and also start hearing more of the special nights onboard. We knew them prior to our WBTA, which definitely helped planning purposes of all events. :goodvibes

Nice job Mandy :cool1: :thumbsup2

John and I have decided we are going to one of the photography tours in Barcelona since we have been a few times. Anyone ever do one of these?

Have you got any more info on this please? Link to the company or anything? I would be interested if they weren't for beginners.

Hi there,

Just read a trip report from the 2010 EBTA and the contributor attended lots of tastings, Rum, Whiskey, Tequila, Martini's to name a few. I fancy doing a few more of these, as they are excellent value at some $20. I am certainly up for rum, vodka, cognac and could be tempted to try a few others if pushed. If nothing else, at least you get to have a laugh with the servers and other cruisers.

This may surprise some, whilst we have many whiskey distillerys with a stone's throw of this house, I am not a big fan and would give that tasting a miss.

I think we just sign up for these at Guest Services?

I know I am already booked for the mixology.

Is it really bad I want to do ALL of the tastings?? :rotfl:

Yeah, I was. I got back a few days ago. Delayed trying to get home due to fog here in St. John's.

I'll go add a page on the website, and MandyGirl should add a link on the list of organized events. I'd like to attend too and show off my terrible skills (I'd add a winky face but it's true... :) )

Who is the organizer? I believe I saw a few people volunteer. If we have more than one, perhaps we could arrange more than one?

Glad you are home safely now. I am the organiser, well I suggested it, but we are all sort of organising each other :) Would be great for you to join us as well :thumbsup2

It been discussed for a bit to have a photo walk and looks like we have numerous people interested in said walk. As of right now dates and times have not been set, but looks like we have interest in two walks, one early am (towards the start of the cruise) and a pm (sunset) walk. We are waiting for final dates for special ship activities before dates and times are set.

What is a photo walk?

Photowalking is the act of walking with a camera for the main purpose of taking pictures of things that the photographer may find interesting.
It is often a communal activity organised by camera clubs, online forums or commercial organisations, sometimes in the form of a walking tour. Often the aim is to practice and improve one's own photography skills rather than a specific focus on documentary photography.
While the camera need not be a digital camera, in practice the low cost of digital photography and the ease of digital photo processing and online photo sharing allow a casual approach in photowalking.

For whom is it for?
Anyone interested in taking pictures, independent of age, camera equipment and skill levels. There will be numerous skilled photographers taking part of the walk that will be more than happy to assist with recommendations and suggestions to improve one's photography skills.

Here are the people that signuped up (show interest).

Please let me know your interest and I will add your name to the list.

I also posted that we are organizing a photo walk on the FB group since some there are not on here and the ones that indicated interest is added to the list above (if for some reason there is a duplicate name between the two please advice)

Mandy would you mind maybe adding a link to this post on the activities listing?

PS. Quality of camera doesn't mean pictures can't be good as I mentioned in posts previously here.. I just discovered today that one of my old Flickr photos was selected Photo of the Week on Discover-central-california.com, this picture was taken with a fairly inexpensive point and shoot camera back in 2007.

Sure thing PM on it's way.

You will never stop wanting lenses or other accessories.....I could sit here and spend £10,000 on camera equipment in a heartbeat and not have half the stuff I want.

Soooo I saw Oz: The Great and Powerful the weekend. And it sucks. It really really sucks.

I was so excited for that movie for a couple of years and just hated it.

Right but don't forget that Dreamworks have a distribution deal with Disney so that explains it (I saw Warhorse last year on a cruise it's actually not a Disney movie but rather a Dreamworks movie but one of the one in the distribution deal).[/QUOTE]

:worship: Disney owns and/or has distribution rights to Walt Disney Studios, Walt Disney Pictures, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation, Disney TOons, Lucas Films, Muppets Studio, Marvel Studios, Disney Nature Films, Touchstone Studios, ESPN Films, Dreamworks (only the live action, which is why Warhorse was shown!), and films produced by ABC and A+E TV. :happytv: Whew!!! popcorn:: Lots of potential Films to Watch!!!

I wonder if anyone in the US might be prepared to do me a favour?

My mother in law has asked for a specific moisturiser for her birthday:

http://uk.shopping.com/st-ives-st-i...sturizer-timeless-skin-295-ml-jar-3-pack/info

It seems like it isn't available here in the UK, and the only decent place to buy it is amazon, where it is imported in and postage costs a lot.

I wondered if anyone had seen this in say Walmart/Walgreens etc, and how much it was there? If not too expensive, I also wondered if someone might be kind enough to get some for me, and I could reimburse them when onboard?

Even if I order if from amazon its unlikely to get here from the states for her birthday, and she isn't someone who is too worried about things being late (plus I have got her a couple of other bits and ordered her some flowers, so she will have something on the day).

I would like to get this for her if I can, just trying to do it a cheaper way!

If anyone could help with prices that would be fab!

:thumbsup2I would be most happy to! Do you want just one jar, or three? Would it be alright to just bring it on board for you? No problem getting it for you!!!
Gramfrog (Jacquie)
Oops! Saw that someone already bought it-- LMK if want more. Gotta be good to MILs.... ;0)
