~~~ May 16, 2009 ~~~ Western Magic ~~~
Hi everyone!!!
Getting super excited!!
Finished my fish extender I am going to figure out how to post a picture today or tomorrow!!
I am getting overwhelmed with all of this, my 16 year old leaves on Wednesday for a trip to NYC with her school and I am so nervous!!!
I know she will be safe but it is so hard to cut those apron strings!!!
I hope everyone is well and I will have to backtrack and read all of the posts I am missing.
Have a great night .
Kristin
I know!! I can't believe our countdown is almost in the teens!!!:cool1: So much to do!!
Can't wait to see your FE, don't forget to post a pic for us!:)
Somehow Belinda -- I kind of took you for a huggie person like me! What time do you guys get to Epcot? Am thinking we may need to meet up for the drink earlier. Like Kym said, I am overplanning that night and do NOT want to miss my Epcot toast with my sweet Belinda. I figure it is our VACATION START drink right??? :cool1:
;)That's a good thing!!! I'm hoping to get to Epcot by about 3 or so. We don't land until almost noon and I'm not sure how long check in will take at POFQ.
Thats fine hunny. Whatever you need to do, just let me know. I do understand if you guys have other plans. But yes!!! It would be perfect to have my first vacation drink with my sweet Mati!!:flower3:
:idea: ANOTHER IDEA :idea:
As for the group photo...I was thinking maybe we can all meet in the lobby on the final night (Friday) right before the deck party. I think the party is at 9:30?? So if we meet about 20-30 minutes before it begins, then we can get a great group photo! (we'll be all tan than too and not look like ghosts:laughing:)
What do you all think??!?
I think we should plan a time NOW so that we are prepared and not rushing around on the ship trying to plan it all.
Maybe we should finalize all our plans by next week since some of us are already leaving...*cough*SONYA*cough* hehe
Wish I had 2 weeks in WDW...but I go to DL a few times a year, so I can't complain much. (I prefer DL over WDW...for ceratin reasons: princess:)
Hey Jordan! I think thats a great idea. To have a final farewell photo. We will all definatly have the cruised tanned look!!:thumbsup2
Your right, I think we should finalize everything by next week. Alot of people are leaving early and it would be great to kinda plan out our schedule.
Lynsey - I understand your thinking;) I'm already going to miss everyone and we haven't even started our cruise yet!!!
Shawn and I have already started thinking about which cruise to take next year!!:thumbsup2
VAL AND LYNSEY- We changed our shore excursion last week for Grand Cayman. We have changed it to the MORNING ISLAND TOUR! I believe the time is 8:15am. Can you please update page one for me Val. And also your mini navi Lynsey:)
Thanks guys!!
Hope everyone is having a wonderful evening!
Kathy, that actually makes it very very tempting. I may just do that if there is still room. I am not sure how Sabrina would do with the Island tour. Also, I know, I am nuts and yes, this is why I have a headache -- am thinking about the Dolphin swim -- the big one with the push, etc, instead. More decisions....
Mati ~ I do hope you decide to book the Island Tour and Stingrays. We did this on our last DCL cruise and it was by far our favorite thing we did (excursion wise). Also, I LOVE kids (many, many people tell me I should have been an elementary school teacher :)) and wouldn't mind helping you keep an eye on Sabrina. The Island Tour is really neat, especially the turtle farm. You can even hold some :). Also, I'm bringing my disposable underwater camera so I could take a few pictures of you two with the stingrays. Have I convinced you yet?!?!??! ~ Kathy
:hug:Oh yes...I'm a HUGGER! :grouphug:
So anyone feel free to come up and give me a hug! The hubby will go along with it too. We don't mind! I may be a bit shy at first-ish, but by the end I'll be screaming at you from across the deck to come say hi.
Also BEWARE, I sometimes get overexcited and grab onto people...So if you don't like to be smacked, arm grabbed, shaken...STAY AWAY!!! (hehe) Kathy beware on the island tour- I LOVE stingrays.....hehehe:rotfl:
**Funny note: During the dream jobs, there were 3 other princesses with me that were not as "CRAZY" as me...my guide said it looked like I was abusing them when I got excited. I was freaking out and only had them to share certain things with...so that sucked..but I couldn't help it- it was too awesome not too!!!**
I"m the Ultimate planner, I'm so orgainzed- my hubby loves it. I even put things in folders to organize everything- the hubs knows that if he needs any vacation info to just go look in the folder. I'm like OCD about vacations--I love them too much!
I use my spare room as a packing room, spread everything out on the bed and have it all organized..but right now we have a house 'guest' (if you can call it that). So I'm going INSANE not seeing everything laid out. I have 3 other rooms I can use, but I'm SO used to just using that 1 room for trips. OCD again!! hehe Hopefully the 'guest' will be gone soon so I can feel somewhat accomplished and ready.
Uh oh, over the last few years I have become a "hugger" as well and I tend to grab someone's arm when I am excited talking to them :). JorDan, we are going to have a fun excursion in Grand Cayman, that's for sure!! And some good photo ops too :). Oh my gosh, our bonus room/exercise room is my "packing room"! I get out the suitcases at least two months before a trip. It really helps build the anticipation, doesn't it??? I have my vacation file folder. It's a 13 pocket expandable plastic file folder with labels for each "category". Brian rolls his eyes at me, but having everything organized and together is sooooo helpful. I'm putting together my Excel spreadsheet this weekend of all the notes and other info I have gathered over the last few months. I will feel much better once that is done :).
P.S. I am so glad that you are on the road to recovery :)!
Wow Kathy -- you are persuasive.
Ok, cancelled stingrays on CC. Cancelled the Pirate Encounter and booked the morning Island tour w/stingray snorkel at GC.
At least I can go to be knowing I have something booked. I may still change it to the dolphin thing but knowing you and JorDan will be on that trip helps.
Sabrina is easy. She LOVES LOVES LOVES animals of all kind and swims like a fish. We are getting snorkel lessons in a week or two so she should be a pro at that too. It is Kai who is more of a concern but, he will be on the ship (which he told me he wanted to do instead of swim with stingrays).
Ok, this time, I am really off to bed. Good night everyone!!!!
~I am way out of my league with you all! OCD? Not me, some of the family, absolutely! I tried to pack this way when much younger but my kids kept getting into it and dragging things all over the house! pirate: I eventually found it much easier to run around like a chicken with it's head cut off and pack all the night before we left! I literally slept the whole way to Hawaii once to catch up from no sleep for the two days prior!
~Things are so lax now that I keep a few clothes at each house and don't even pack anymore... We just grab the dog, our medicine and get in the car. Much easier. Also... Bob has finally taught me that it is true, :idea: if whatever we forget is that necessary we will just buy one when we get there!
~Amanda, Jason, Kevin (youngest son), Adam (6) (youngest grandson, especially if it a pretty girl) and I are huggers too! :hug: The rest of them not so much...
~Beekeeping is fascinating to me... :wizard: Our neighbors across the street had a huge hive in their attic... There was honey running down both stories on the the front of their house! :headache:
~Lynsey... FYI... I do not go ANYWHERE without my computer. My kids will attest to that. :surfweb: If you want to send me a copy of your file when you are finished with it, I will have it available for any stateroom changes there may be. Amanda tells me they can change up until check in at Port Canaveral. :eek: If there is no printer available, at least everyone could take a digital picture of my screen and they would have the corrections available to them. Just a thought... Also... Thank you so much for doing this for all of us! :worship:
later all... :love:
Carole
I like the way you think, nice and tan! Although I'll have to hide in the back because after 7 days of vacation I'll be more pooh-like! :goodvibes Ok, maybe it won't be too bad we'll just have to really dance it up in the clubs! For those that have the late seating do you think this time will work for you???
We changed our shore excursion last week for Grand Cayman. We have changed it to the MORNING ISLAND TOUR! I believe the time is 8:15am.
If it's ok with everyone I wasn't going to list the individual excursion, the list would be really long! So, I'd suggest that if you want to remember who is doing what to bring off the first page of our thread! :thumbsup2 We are doing the Island Tour too, but not until 11:30!
~Lynsey... FYI... I do not go ANYWHERE without my computer. My kids will attest to that. :surfweb: If you want to send me a copy of your file when you are finished with it, I will have it available for any stateroom changes there may be. Carole
Carole, that's such a wonderful idea! I would have never though about taking a picture of the updated list from the computer. I'll e-mail the file to you probably on that Wednesday or Thursday (5/13 or 5/14)! Only those participating in the FE will have their cabin numbers listed so I wouldn't expect that many changes, but I will keep my fingers crossed for those that haven't received any upgrades yet! :wizard:
I won't have my laptop with me. I'm wierd like that on vacation, I don't want to have the laptop or cell phone (just pack the cell phone in case of emergencies). I like detaching from reality! :yay:
I really hope that they will show the new Earth movie on the cruise, I'm dying to see it! I wish someone would post recent navigators!
Hi Mati ~ Yay to hear that you are on our excursion (at least for now) :). I keep talking to Brian about everyone in our DIS group so he'll have a general idea about everyone. I really feel like we are all a group of friends getting together . Can't wait to meet everyone in person in a little less than 3 weeks :)! ~ Kathy
It was a happy Disney day at the Wood household ~ we finally got our documents :cool1:
Although after all the waiting the packet was kind of a let down. Did everyone get four luggage tags per person??? I'm sure we won't have 8 bags between the two of us.
If it is a Disney run excursion you have until 3 days prior to sailing to cancel (I would not wait past 12 May) and even then they may let you change it for another excursion after you board but at that point they probably will not let you cancel outright. On our last cruise in May we wanted to cancel the CC jetski excursion onboard and they said we could not but we could change it to another excursion so we rented the bikes instead and had about $180 refunded.
Dave
Thanks for the info Dave - it is a DCL excursion. I'll know by the end of the month if we need to cancel/change.
I totally can feel your pain. In 2005 my youngest was 16 at the time and he went went on a 14 day tour with a Boy Scout Troop (not his normal one) on a tour of the East Coast and then to the National BS Jamboree. If anyone remembers it, ithe Jamboree was in the middle of a heat wave and major thunderstorms and a couple of adults were actually killed when the metal pole hit the power lines when putting up a large tent. Anyway the tour was to NYC, Washington DC and various other historical areas. We set up a 800 number for our house (they couldn't take cell phones) I have a 800 number at work, etc. The kid called exactly twice. I was freaked out especially when we got a call from another parent saying we didn't need to worry, because they found Brendan (he has a TERRIBLE sence of direction and got mis-directed at camp) I know a bad quality for a Boy Scout. My best advice for you is no news is good news. If something happens you will be the first call. Not easy to deal with on our side, but its the only thing that calms me down.
Sidetrack: As part of my work I teach beekeeping, and I also have a couple of hives. Today, as an offshoot of that, I got to watch/photograph the removal of a very, very big hive of bees from behind the outside wall and under the floor of a house. We found 6 queen cells and actually got to watch one queen emerge! This is the first time I have watched a cut-out. Sometimes my job is very cool.:woohoo: Now back to your regularly scheduled cruise programming. :)
Sounds very cool. Something that I would watch if it were on TV, not necessarily in person.
I know!! I can't believe our countdown is almost in the teens!!!:cool1: So much to do!!
;)That's a good thing!!! I'm hoping to get to Epcot by about 3 or so. We don't land until almost noon and I'm not sure how long check in will take at POFQ.
Thats fine hunny. Whatever you need to do, just let me know. I do understand if you guys have other plans. But yes!!! It would be perfect to have my first vacation drink with my sweet Mati!!:flower3:
I'm starting to freak out that I don't have enough time to get everything done!! I still need to finish my FE pocket, FE gifts, magnets, pack, etc!!!
Mati & Belinda - I don't want to bust in on your meet, but did we still want to get together a mini-meet on Friday for everyone that is in the world early? Maybe in the afternoon (we had talked about B&C) or in the evening at Epcot for EMH?
JorDan - Love the idea of the end of cruise photo. We're in the late dinning group, but we'll just tell the servers to hustle it up so we can make the time (or hold the dessert and we'll come back after the photo).
Lynsey & Belinda (and everyone else) I'm SO glad that I found this thread. I've always wanted to do a "Grand Gathering" type of vacation where you go with a large group because then you can group up/split up in various groups, but we haven't found the perfect traveling partners yet. I get a really great vibe from this group. I'm really looking forward to finally meeting all of you and getting to know you all better. While we won't be able to take a cruise next year (the most we might be able to do is a DL trip) it would definately be great to keep in touch and maybe schedule a meet whenever travels take us near each other.
I'm a social hugger. I work with a lot of sales people so have become used to hugging people that I've spent a short burst of intense time together (kind of like summer camp). You bond very quickly - it hasn't been quick for some of us this cruise didn't feel like it was ever going to get here, but now that it is here I'm not looking forward to the post cruise depresion when we don't have 4 pages to read every night.
Does anyone plan on doing a trip report? I've never done one, but I LOVE reading them.
Jane
I'm a little late watching Idol tonight, but the lip synching is awful!!! :rolleyes1 And who are these guest singers?!?! Yikes!
Mati & Belinda--I'm glad you're both "huggy," too! :hug: Lennon gets it from me, too. I'm sure everyone wearing a wrist band will get a hug from him. A friend of his introduced him to her g'ma for the first time, and he hugged her, of course. His friend said, "Yep, he's a hugger!" :rotfl2: I can just picture Lennon & Kai hugging everyone they run into!
Crystal--thanks for already being a FFL!! :grouphug:
Sonya--are we really going to be without you here for the 2 wks you're @ WDW?!?! Not bringing a laptop along?!?!
Well, Cinda, I don't think you'll be quiet once we all start chatting! :hyper2::hyper2::hyper2:
Mati--we thought the Shutters pix were way overpriced, so we only bought 3 total, and they aren't even displayed anywhere. :sad2: Our camera is nearly the same as the photographers use (Nikon D40), so they know how to use it when I ask them to take our picture with it!! :thumbsup2
suezyq50--we used Cap'n Marvin's last time and enjoyed it, other than the boys not wanting to get off the boat, so Justin stayed on with them while I did the rays, and I stayed on while he snorkeled.
Anne--more power to you! I could NEVER do anything like that with bees. I have a true phobia of bugs, insects, creepy-crawlies, buzzers, etc. Ick!!
Yay! JorDan's a hugger, too! :grouphug: BTW, I'm intrigued by your "guest." Is it someone you don't want to be there??
Jane--I'm feeling the pressure of not enough time to get everything done, too. My work has been crazy busy lately for some reason, so I've been working later than I want to every day for the last couple weeks, and it's cutting into my planning time (AND my DIS time!!), and I DON'T LIKE IT!!! :lmao:
I completely understand. I finished up all 4 again in less than 2 weeks and it was almost a relief to finish them. I have so much to do. Yoni told me to try reading a book he had and I told him NO WAY. No more books until after (ok, maybe during) the cruise. But keep in mind my friend, we want to spend at least a little time with you guys so don't get too buried in the book on the boat!!!!
OH MY! Already next week? And to think I am freaked that we leave 3 weeks from tomorrow. WOWWWWW! Don't worry on missing anything. We'll just leave you messages at the hotel when we go into Sonya-withdrawal! :rotfl:
Too funny. Yoni wasn't a hugger when I met him -- come on, he is a Finn! He is much more affectionate now. My kids are pretty loving. Kai will give ANYONE a hug and kiss on command....:rolleyes1 Maybe I should stop that now before he gets too much older? :laughing:
!
I know! We drive to the airport next Friday . . . I am freaking out. I enjoy the planning so much that in a (very small) way I begrudge it a bit when the trip finally arrived!!!!
I am ready to be hugged! And Tony loved a good hug!
WOW!! I've missed so much and only been off here a couple days!!! You girls have been busy little chatters!;)
Ok, I will do my best to try and catch up a little, I apologize if some of this is old or I miss anyone! I love all of you:flower3:
SONYA- I can't believe you already leave next week!!WOW! I bet you can't wait. We will miss you on the boards:sad2: BUUUUTTT, we will see you very soon in person!!!:cool1: So get prepared for those hugs, your going to get lots of them!:grouphug:
]
I am ready for the hugs!!!! How are the renewal plans coming??
In my opinion New Moon was much better than twilight. I wanted to keep on reading and reading to see what happened next. I still havent gotten the 3rd book but that will probably be what I will be reading in the car on the way to Port Canaveral. We have a 7 hour drive. :crazy: I will probably get most of it done.:)
Thats my plan! A 3 hour drive to the airport, and 3 hours sitting in the airport should get me through a good part of it! I will definitely be ready to talk about the first 3 books by the cruise, even if I have to miss time in the parks :rotfl:
Sonya: I'm jealous of your 3 week vacation! Adam only gets 1 week off per year and I can't afford to take much more. Sometimes I wish our system was more like yours!
1 WEEK :scared1: ?! Holy cow! Is that legal?!!! Even when I was a student working in a shop part time we got 4 weeks!!!! Now I get 5 weeks, plus bank holidays, plus any flex days I earn. Maybe all my years moaning about the European Union were wrong!!!!!
:rotfl:That's funny!!! I don't mind hugs at all, although I'm usually not the one to initiate becuase I don't know how people will response! There's always that akward first meeting of should I shake their hand, give them a hug, just say hi... hmmmm, I'm hoping my in-person awkwardness will quickly go away! I have GREAT expectations of how awesome our group is going to be on board. :goodvibes
I think we are going to all have such a good time when we meet :goodvibes
:idea: ANOTHER IDEA :idea:
As for the group photo...I was thinking maybe we can all meet in the lobby on the final night (Friday) right before the deck party. I think the party is at 9:30?? So if we meet about 20-30 minutes before it begins, then we can get a great group photo! (we'll be all tan than too and not look like ghosts:laughing:)
I think we should plan a time NOW so that we are prepared and not rushing around on the ship trying to plan it all.
Maybe we should finalize all our plans by next week since some of us are already leaving...*cough*SONYA*cough* hehe
Wish I had 2 weeks in WDW...but I go to DL a few times a year, so I can't complain much. (I prefer DL over WDW...for ceratin reasons: princess:)
Thats a great idea about the photo!!!!
I'm sorry already that I get given too much holiday!!!!!!!!!!:rotfl:
I like the way you think, nice and tan! Although I'll have to hide in the back because after 7 days of vacation I'll be more pooh-like! :goodvibes Ok, maybe it won't be too bad we'll just have to really dance it up in the clubs! For those that have the late seating do you think this time will work for you???
!
I will be fighting you for the back row. Tony and I are going out this weekend to buy some trousers each in a bigger size for the flight home. Why put off the inevitable?!?!
Sonya--are we really going to be without you here for the 2 wks you're @ WDW?!?! Not bringing a laptop along?!?!
:
I'm not taking a lap top, I need the room for all my shoes! I have got my i-phone but there is no wi-fi anywhere in Disney. Tony's one contribution to planning this trip has been to look up free wi-fi in the area and inform me we can get it free at Krispy Kreme, so may :rolleyes:head there one day and catch-up with you all quickly!!
good morning everyone we picked up our docs. yesterday and dropped our TA at the same visit.
were so excited everyone at work is asking how long now,when do you leave;not soon enough ....off to work now I'll add our plans when I get home
Does anyone plan on doing a trip report? I've never done one, but I LOVE reading them. Jane
We received 2 luggage tags per person. I've been thinking of doing a trip report! I hope alot of us do, I'll love to get everyone elses point of view! For our honeymoon I wrote a vacation journal/trip report but never got around to posting it! Now it's been over 2 1/2 years and think it would be a little late to go posting it now! :rotfl:
I'm a little late watching Idol tonight, but the lip synching is awful!!! :rolleyes1 And who are these guest singers?!?! Yikes!
Agreed, I think the singers have went downhill since the peak of their disco days. The though of Lennon and Kai running around giving everyone hugs is adorable.
Ooooo, I would love for you to check in and let us know how your mega vacation is going!
Now I must get off to work.....
That is what my wife thought when she opened up the package but they are actually 2 long luggage tags for each person
I'm feeling way out of my league also. I'm excited we are going but I'm nowhere near ready to leave. With the pregnancy, kids having a cold/allergies, DH got food poisoning, and not to mention everyday stuff, I haven't had a lot of time to start pulling things together. Thank god for Amanda and Mom...they are doing a lot of the planning and organizing, getting things for the FE, etc. Otherwise, I would really be freaking out. I'm starting to get some things together and putting them all in one bag so we don't forget anything (passports, boarding passes, letter from my OBGYN about the pregnancy, etc.) I need to get moving on ordering some clothes if I'm going to get anything new so I can just go ahead and pack that.
I'm getting better with the hugging. Ask Mom...I've been married almost 13 years and I've gotten much better that in the beginning.
You should be fine to cruise with a Passport Card. The only time there would be an issue is if you have an emergency and have to fly home from GC, Coz, or CC. Then you would have to go through the hassle of getting an emergency passport.
Thank you, I was starting to think we have to stay home. I just wished we would of been told we needed the book and not wasted the $ on the cards.:confused3
Austin77's Dad here again....if you want to find out what movies are playing on your cruise, you can call 888-325-2500, choose the reservations option, then ask what movies will be showing the week of your cruise. popcorn:::3dglasses
I would call, but I am at work. They tend to frown on that......:thumbsup2
So, it was my good friend and co-workers birthday on Tues. and we planned an awesome surprise for her. We have a tradition at our office of "getting" people on their birthdays here. In the morning when she arrived we had trashed her office with streamers, confetti and Happy Birthday signs. She thought that was it. It wasn't. A local church in town does a fundraiser involving flamingos -- a flock of flamingos. We set it up and we took my friend to dinner. When she came home she saw this:
And the after effects of that many flamingos. It looks pretty sad:
Just thought you'd like to see the pictures. They were too funny not to share. Some of the flamingos are even wearing happy birthday party hats!
It's getting closer to CRUISE TIME and Disney. I put up the countdown chain and now I have a very, very excited 4 yr. old. Her Mom's pretty excited as well! ;)
