All great advice JO! I actually do most of those things. My one weakness is eating out, we try to make it only once a week, but it usually ends up to be 2-3 times. :confused3 It is my only break from cooking! For some reason my DH is totally clueless in the kitchen and will not even try to cook.

Yes, most of our family tells us we are cheap, but hey I don't see any of them being able to stay home with their kids or going to WDW!!!

Speaking of eating out, JO- where's a good place to eat near the RP Mall? We are having a date night Friday night and I really want to go to the Disney Store so we are heading down to the big city!

Can you stand a couple more? I was cleaning and thought of a few more...

Never buy bottled water. You already pay for it in your house. Use tap instead.

Cancel magazine subscriptions when they come due. Pick the longest line in the grocery store, get in it and start reading any of the mags there. Cancel the newspaper. Read it online.

Don't send dogs to the groomers. Do it yourself, or take them to Petco for wash your own dog bath. Only $10. While you're there, get them vaccinated for cheap.

Shop the circulars. A pain, but you can save some money. Shop at Wal-MArt for groceries. Significant savings.

Buy play clothes for the kids at consignment shops. Sell your good clothes to them for a profit. Have a yard sale. At my last one I made $500!!!

Pay cash for everything. If you don't have the money for an item, go home and think about it for 24 hours. The next day, if you still really want it badly, start putting money away for it. Don't put it on the cc, unless it's groceries and you are going hungry. NEVER put a restaurant meal on the cc.

Make sure you are with holding enough out of your DH's paycheck. No use in getting a lot back at the end of the year when you struggle getting through monthly. (This was learned the hard way.;) )

Refinance your house to a lower interest rate, if you can.

Okay, I'm done, I promise.;)

Shelly, a restaurant...
hum...
there's the Cheesecake Factory. Also oh! On down Mcknight RD past the mall is TGIfridays and Famous Dave's BBQ.

I don't know of anything else!

Good Afternoon MAYers!!!!
It was a busy weekend and start of the week, even though the past two days were fall break for me...we're finally starting to wrap up the remodeling we started at the end of May. We finished the drywall this weekend and I started painting this afternoon after I got home from work and got the 1st coat of primer on :yay:

Good morning!

Thanks for all the well wishes. We have a bunch of friends and their families affected by these fires. Malibu, Canyon Country, Irvine, Rancho Santa Margarita and Arrowhead. Fortunately, everyone is OK and safe. But their homes are in danger.

We are OK because we live in the city. The closest fire is about 10 miles away and we are about 3 miles from any canyon or mountain area.

The air stinks and it is very unsafe for for anyone who has breathing conditions. I kept my son home from school today again since he has asthma.

I heard on the news there are fire companies coming as far as Arizona and Oregon. Amazing and scary at the same time.

Glad to hear that it's going OK for you, and that your friends have made it out safely.

 Hey guys,

I wasnt getting notified.

So I see you are all busy posters.

I am soo bummed. I will be out of a job by the end of the week. They want me to change my hours and come in everyday in the afternoon and I am not going to do that with the girls. I am very upset about it. I have been at this job for 6 1/2 years. I guess I was lucky to have them be so flexible for so long. The whole office is changing and getting more strict.

Now I have to get on a strict budget. Any advice? I wasnt bringing home much a week but it helped buy groceries.

We are watching Pinocchio now and I have to give the girls there lunch. I am hoping this movie will cheer me up.

Thanks for letting me vent. :scared:

Huggie  -
That stinks! But I'm sure that the girls will enjoy having you home even more.

I'll second Jo, soup is a great meal that can stretch over more than one. We usually make a big pot and then have it for lunches during the week, and with it getting colder, we've been having soup 3 or 4 times a week and it's really cut down on grocery costs. My favorite is "Throw It In A Pot" soup, basically just toss a bunch of canned or frozen veggies in a pot with some meat (usually stew meat, or if I really don't want to do anymore than open cans, there is canned roast beef that's yummy in it), if we use canned veggies, we get the no sodium variety and just add the liquids into the soup, if we use frozen, we use low sodium beef broth for the liquid. With canned, I can do about a gallon of soup for $5.50

I got ADRs made for both trips this weekend....I think I spent about 1 1/2 hours on the phone with Disney Dining....I love calling and listening to the hold music :)

For my trip in Jan, I'm going to do the Deluxe DDP....
15-D Crystal Palace
16-L Sci-Fi Drive In
16-D 50's Primetime Café
17-L Tutto Italia
17-D Rose & Crown
18-L Whispering Canyon Café
18-D ??? Haven't decided yet
19-L Tusker House
19-D Boma
20-L Liberty Tree Tavern
20-D California Grill
21-B O'hana Character B-Fast

The only ones I've tried before are Crystal Palace, Boma, and O'hana....Everything else is new to me

For DMom/DDad/DSis's trip in Feb, they're doing the standard DDP....
Feb3-L Coral Reef
Feb4-B Crystal Palace
Feb4-D Concourse Steak House
Feb5-D Whispering Canyon Café
Feb6-L Sci-Fi Dine-In
Feb7-D Spoodles
Feb8-D 1900 Park Fare

Out of all of these, the only things I couldn't get was Chef Mickey's for breakfast on the 21st early enough for what I needed and Chef Mickey's for dinner either the 4th or 8th any earlier than 8:00

WOW, Thanks for all the advice and support guys.

I only went into the office in the morning from 6am-7am. So the kids never missed me. They were sleeping.

Jo- Wow, some great tips. I am going to look into the cable thing. Dh dyes my hair already so that is cool. :) I really just spend alot of money on junk. Really silly stuff. So I am going to watch that.

Sulley- Great adrs. I am jealous.

Seacrest- Glad you are ok. :grouphug: That is horrible about the fires.

ok gonna run

My luggage is getting delivered today... oh YEAH:banana: ... and i leave on FRIDAY oh yeah vacation here i come (not disney but it will do for now)

Hi Mari!

I can't wait to hear about your luggage! Are you using it on your trip??? How long of a trip is it for you?

Seacrest~
How are you all? Those fires are just something else.:guilty: I hope you are safe. Check in when you can.

Huggie~
The little things in life that we impulsively acquire are fun. Especially when they are related to Disney in some way.:) It sounds as if you already have found your weak spot. I do the same thing. Here's what I have found that helps, though. Sometimes I just have to go shopping. Girls must shop. It's who we are. Stress reliever. Men fish, golf, watch sports. We shop. So when I feel that pang of "If I don't go shopping someone will die" feeling, I go.:woohoo:

And I leave my purse in the car. :guilty: Put $10 in your pocket. That way you can get lunch for the girls, or cookies for a snack or whatever. But it makes it really tough on you because if you find something you must have, you say "Oh, I'm going to go get my purse out of the car, I have to have that." So you make the trek out to the car. By the time you get there, you don't want to go back into the mall.;)

Works like a charm.

What's everyone doing this beautiful day???

Jo

You are soo smart Jo. My purse and wallet always are stocked with credit cards. I also spend way to much at the grocery store but I feel like everything is so expensive now.

Oh by the way I was up at 5am. Just not on the computer. I did go to work today. Just waiting for the call from my boss.......

I went to the grocery store and got

Eggs
Yogurt
Milk
Ellios pizza ( big case) This is all my kids eat
jar of sauce( for the kids)
Parmesan cheese
apple chips
Marinos Ices ( this is my treat, I eat one everynight)

How much do you think I spent????? ANYONE??????? Everyone take a guess???

This will be fun.:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :yay: :yay: :yay:

Oooooooh I want to play!!:yay:

Let's see. . . I'm assuming groceries cost more near NYC than here. . . plus I've never heard of Ellios pizza. . . so this will be a total guess!

About $40 ???

Mornin' Shelly!

I want to revise my guess. Overlooked the apple chips. Those might have broken the bank.:)

So, I'll say $32.

Jo

So JO - Tell me about the Cheesecake Factory!! I've never been to one. Is the food good? Where is it at exactly? Is it on McKnight also?

It's in the mall. The food is okay. I've only been there once.

People rave over the desserts. The portions are out of control massive. You should try it. There's always a wait, but you can get a pager and it works all through the mall.

The theming inside this one reminds me of something you find at WDW. I don't know why, but the whole time I was there, I was thinking I was at WDW.:)

Jo

Anyone ever been to Jackson Hole, Wyoming?

We might have a chance to go next year. It would most likely be in May (another reason we decided against WDW then.)

Our trip to Cancun with friends in April is cancelled. They are going during Belle's Birthday and I can't miss that.
