May 12, 2007 -- Taking the Magic to the Mediterranean -- 14 day Repo Cruise!

Questions that have probably already been answeredd but....

How many "formal" nights are on a 14 day?

If you don't want to do "formal" what are your dining options?

That would seriously reduce the amount of stuff we would have to pack (renting tux etc not an option-DH won't do it)

Haven't cruised on the Magic before-any help appreciated.

I would expect 2 formal nights, that is what we had on the panama canal repo cruise, but that does not mean that you really have to dress formally. Some will be in tuxes, but some will just wear nice clothes. We have basically decided not to take the tux on this one, Scott says he will rent one. I will probably take my 2 semi formal dresses, they are very light and pack easily. If there are also semi-formal nights, I will just wear each twice. Scott is saying that by renting a tux (or by not wearing one) he would also not have to take an extra pair of shoes. Our big question is can we afford the weight of the pirate outfits.

I"m glad someone else is asking these questions! Jason and I have been anxiously looking for information about the number of formal and semi-formal nights on the cruise....we're excited about them actually because none of our previous cruises have ever had a formal night (we've only ever done the 3 and 4 nights on the Wonder)....and actually in the nearly 4 years we've been together we've never had occasion to wear tuxes together....so we've decided we're DEFINITELY renting tuxes and doing the formal nights to the hilt....even looking on ebay for fun, inexpensive vest and/or cumberbund sets. (renting the tuxes onboard keeps us from having to pack them and just packing the little light vests gives us the opportunity to still put a little bit of our own personality into our wardrobe).

We're also anticipating a few semi-formal nights, too...or at least dressing nicely for dinner even if they're not technically semi-formal nights. We're going to pack just a couple light dress shirts and wash/wear them multiple times, too....but to spice up our outfits and make them different every night I've been keeping an eye on ebay and watching for good deals so that we're building a small collection of cute disney-themed ties. (Can you tell that I have WAAAAY too much fun w/ all this disney stuff?!?!)

As far as pirate costumes goes....we haven't made any decisions there either....time will tell.

All in all we definitely know we have to be smart about WHAT we pack and HOW MUCH we bring....but we're also really aware of the fact that for us this is a once in a lifetime vacation opportunity....so we're trying to make sure we balance out our practical sense about packing with still giving ourselves the opportunity to make this trip as magical as possible....I want as many fun moments and fantastic photo-ops as possible!!!

I'll bring mix and match light weight blacks with one pair of dress shoes. I'll make it as easy as possible to not carry much stuff with us. Since we'll be away for 5 weeks with multiple climates, we'll be wearing much over and over again. DH could care less about dress up, so he'll bring a little as possible.

Ebay is a great place for fun clothes. I've sold a ton of stuff on Ebay. DH had a velvet jacket from the 80's that we couldn't get $2 for at our garage sale, then it sold for $152 on Ebay. That is a great idea for Disney ties on Ebay!!!! Maybe some fun vests too. DH collects the Disney button front shirts. He has a few that are so understated he can wear them to work. Look for me to bid against you on the ties!!!!! :rotfl:

Well luckily I have a head start on ya! I think we're up to about 9 ties in hand or en route already....and Jason is making me stop at somewhere between 16 and 20 so we each have 8 to 10 ties to wear at the World for some of the nicer restaurants (we think we might do dinner in Cinderella's castle this time around) and/or on the cruise.

Our challenge now is trying to find a good enough variety of ties. Obviously I'm getting any Tigger :tigger: ties that really JUMP at me (pun intended :lmao: ). And we've got several Mickey and friends ties :mickeyjum pluto: :goofy: :donald: ....but now I'm looking for some more varied ties.... we've got some Lion King :simba: , Aladdin, 101 Dalmations, Finding Nemo, and maybe Toy Story (auction ends soon).....so I'm really keeping my eyes peeled for unique ones. I told Jason that I was going to get him a Disney Princesses Tie.....but I can't find one! :rotfl2:

How fun! Actually I've never seen that site...but Jason and I own the second vests in the pic there (called "black, white, & red") and matching bowties...but we don't have the others. We do however have the neckties that match two of the other styles! How fun!

So we're going to do Mickey tuxes one night and then I think we're going to go for fun Tigger and Roo colors (hmm....orange and blue?? hehehe) for our vests and ties for the other night.

Have to say I have never rented a tux, yet for some reason I think they come with shoes. Any one know???

sometimes they do come with shoes...depends on where you're renting from and personal choice.

I can tell you that the tux rental company that does business with the DCL cruises (http://www.cruiselineformal.com/) doesn't include shoes or dress socks with the tux rental...but does offer them at a nominal additional cost (the socks you keep after the cruise, apparently, the shoes you return). Jason and I are each renting a tux AND renting shoes....shoes are the WORST to have to pack and carry etc....they take up so much room and weigh a ton. We always wear our dress casual shoes on the plane to Orlando and we wear them when we board the boat too so that they're not taking up space in our bags...then we just pack our flip flops/sandals which are much more luggage-friendly.

I hear ya and I will be renting the shoes, just cutting down on packing stuff. I hate to rent when I own, but desperate times call for desperate measures. LOL

I'll say AMEN!! :cool1:

Actually I dont think i even really own any REALLY dressy shoes...so I'd have to go buy a pair to bring anyway....b/c you guys are gonna get hte special treat of seeing Jason and I dressed up....which we traditionally reserve for weddings and funerals....neither of which we attend very often!

:dancer: :cool1: You are too cool, Jason!!! I got a great dalmation tie this afternoon! I was trying to bid on the big collection, but didn't get it. Oh Man. But your second selection of the day is wear the good, big, bulky shoes on the plane and pack the light weight ones!!!!

Love the tux website, those are so cute.... DH immediately said Oh I'd rent those. He loved the first one I picked the second that apparently we'll be seeing around the dining room!

We're wondering how it works for the overseas trip - how are they returned? if we are in Europe? What about renting on the boat? again how are they returned? confused about renting process. How much do they cost?

I'm not really sure....go to that site I linked up above because there is lots of information and pricing details on there. It doesn't say anything specific about international cruises...but it also doesn't say anything about the overseas cruises being restricted either. We haven't "booked" our tuxes yet, but we're assuming it's not going to be a problem. From what I understand the tux is waiting for you onboard and you either leave it in your cabin or return it to someplace onboard before you depart the boat at the end of the cruise.

Well, we'll be offline for 2 weeks. We're off it Italy for our 10th anniversary! Not a Disney thing, but exciting regardless! See y'all when we get back!

Congrats and have a great trip.

Have a wonderful time in Italy! and Happy Anniversary too!

FYI, for those of you thinking about DLP after the cruise, and are DVC members. I was able to book a stay at DLP for Feb of 2007. So it may be worth a call to DVC to see if May is available.

OK...so we watched the "Cheetah Girls 2" movie....which was generally fun, but you're definitely right...the scenery from Barcelona is stunning...makes us want to be there! I told Jason, also, that once we're there I'm going to break into song and dance through the streets like the Cheetah Girls do in the movie. He assured me he'd disown me immediately!
