OK, well supervisor Dennis came through with some research...
The problem is door destruction. Some people have been using glue and tape to post their decorations. They are trying to discourage door decorations for this reason. However, if you use a magnet or magnetic strips that is fine. I told him I would post the info and get the word out about what not to use. Big sigh of silly relief. :woohoo:

Yea! Good to know!

Wow Kathy--I was about to throw my two cents worth and find you've already done it for me! KEWL. Yes, we hear the buses are efficeint and clean. I speak a fair amount of Spanish so I think we can negotiate it. We are a aprty of 6, and I will just ask a Taxi driver the rate before we hop a bus (if it is really cheap we will take the taxi). Otherwise It looks to me like we can get a bus fairly easily. I like to get an early start, so if anyone wants to tag along they can, just look me up on board and then be ready to get off bright and early.

i am sad to say that i will be relying on my kids spanish from school because all i know is "Dora Spanish"!

By the way... we could always put our signs on our fish mail and fish extenders. Trick the system :rotfl:

until we broke them under the weight of all our stuff! :rotfl2:

Our door will be covered - I made 14 signs - all magnetic. If they vanish, well then so be it. But they will go up!

I called the person I know at DCL also and MAGNETIC DOOR SIGNS ARE OKAY AND FISH EXTENDERS ARE OKAY.

Fish extenders can still be attached using a zip tie. No tape, no glue.

When on the Wonder April 5th, I noticed some of the doors were in pretty bad shape. You could tell DCL was using some kind of solvent to take off the glue and tape, but it was definitely discoloring the doors.

I will be bringing all my magnets with me! Maybe DCL ought to put something in their final document package that explains the policy so people know that no tape or glue is allowed. Communication is a GOOD thing!

i could see someone accidentally using tape and not knowing about the magnets...but glue? :confused3 come on people....how would you think of that????????

Michelle--Wow, your husband must be great with langauges!:thumbsup2 I wish I were that good. I lived in Spain a year and visit my parents in Mexico often and I can certainly hold a good conversation, but I am not anywhere close to fluent. Now, my dad after 10 years of living and wokring in Mexico is just now getting to where he really feels he is truly fluent.

Well he actually is not good at any other language but Spanish...lol. I am better at attempts at french and german than he is. :confused3 He can understand a little bit of Portuguese and italian, but not much. He is pretty rusty too, so maybe I was getting a little carried away, since it has been about 16 years? :scared1:

A picture with Jack! Oh that would be wonderful :) We will have to make sure you get there first!

Debbie

I was first in line on one of the photo days - all it takes is sitting, standing, etc in line for a couple of hours! :hourglass
I love Jack Sparrow  too!

(busses or taxis depending on what seems to make more economic sense when we are actually there--leaning towards busses which are FUN anyway) you are WELCOME to tag along

You know Hadley, it's funny you wrote that. Whenever we're away on vacation or even a weekend getaway, and Rob and I have to take a bus, we always consider it "fun"! However, we comment that if it was something we had to do every day to get to work, to and from, part of the daily work grind, it would not be near as much fun for us. But on vacation, FUN FUN FUN to take a bus, huh?!

Thanks for the info, I'm sure our magnets will be just fine. I saw on my last cruise one of the doors that had stickers ALL over it, from top to bottom, and just thought what a nightmare it must be for the stateroom attendants to have to clean it all up at the end, not to mention the destruction to the paint.

Stickers? <<thump>> When I originally saw that, I thought that the occupants should be charged, but then, who is to prevent some mean spirited cruiser from stickering your door because you got the last creme brulee at dinner! (LOL--llike that could ever happen!)

Disney should just pass out cheap IKEA magnets and say, "This is for your door. Tape, stickers and glue ruin the paint. We don't want Mickey up all hours scraping goo off the doors. It makes him cranky, especially when Minnie refuses to help, and Goofy is getting a little goofier from the paint fumes!"

What's funny is, I recieved those Magnets in the Casteaway gift and wondered WHY they gave out magnets. I thought it was weird. I only ever sailed on the Wonder and only saw one decorated door. I thought it was funny! I didn't connect it with the magnets, and I NEVER saw a fish extender. It must be a Magic thing.

Hi all,
Level of sanity around here has taken a serious drop! DD solved the last clue last night and when she realized it was a Disney Cruise was soooo excited!:cheer2: First words were (interpreting through the scream) "I've always wanted to go on a Disney Cruise. I know so much about the ships already!" DW's excitement turned to panic after about 30 mins when she started into her "packing panic" mode. Probably a subconscious reason that I didn't tell them sooner. Once they had settled down somewhat it was my turn to turn into a blabbering idiot as I tried to tell them all about the cruise, the board, what we have planned and all the people in one breath. Showed them the Disboards and DD was buried in the computer until bed. Perhaps tonight we can have a conversation that we can call sane!
Regards to all from the sunny Okanagan Valley!
Greg:) :) :)

As everyone already knows this was the official response I recieved from Disney today:

Thank you for your interest in a Disney Cruise Line Vacation!

As you might imagine, it is very important to us to keep our facilities
looking their best for all our Guests.

As part of our commitment to this area of focus, we ask that Guests not
affix anything to their stateroom door utilizing any adhesive or tape.

We ask that Guests limit door decoration to those of the magnetic
variety so pick out your prettiest magnets!

I hope this information has been helpful. If you require further
assistance in planning your visit, please feel free to contact us.

We look forward to sailing with you! Have a Magical Day!

It is really sad that the most interesting part of my day is finding out that we may indeed put magnets on our DCL doors!;)

Greg, reassure them that I just began to pack, as well. I'm so glad they are excited. What a fun family you must have!

I can confirm what others have found out, that Magnets are OK. Only adhesives are banned. Makes good sense to me.

lol hey we have our priorities right! :rolleyes1

Shutters and or the INTERNET café should offer a Door magnet design and printing program. Or offer a Kids program to draw on a Door Magnet sheet and hang therir art on their doors and the staff could walk around and place magnetic ribbons on the doors with the best efforts for each age group.

The Shops could sell a kit with a blank, outlined or even a preprinted 8 1/2 x 11 magnet sheet specific to each cruise with magic (Get it? Magic) markers for you to personalize it... That way when new cruisers see a door Magnet for the first time, they won't be tempted to duct tape something to the door.

Sorry my imagination was getting away from me...
