What exactly do we need to commit to to be a message door? Other than the space for the message board thing? I have to contend now with this gargantuan fish extender I made...but we're not going crazy (yet) with any kind of door signage really...so Jason and I could volunteer our door as long as someone told us what to do (or is someone else responsible for going around and updating them or whatever....what's the protocol for how that happens?). We are in 8056 which is about 1/2 way between the midship and aft elevators...and it appears we're relatively close to a few clusters of other DisBoard rooms.

Erik
I'm not making the rules (just the message boards). But my thought would be that whoever wanted to announce something would run around and update the boards - or call me and I would do it for them. An alternative might be to call each of the 5 rooms and ask them to post it.

I think what we have so far is (for the midship locations):
Deck 2 - Elizabeth (2545) - not too far off midship
Deck 5 - Debbie (5024) - not midship, but there are no deck 5 midship rooms
Deck 6 - Kathy (6568)
Deck 7 - OH 6 (7568)
Deck 8 - Erik & Jason? (8056)

We had several other volunteers if these don't work.

Should we go ahead and post this on page 143 and update as necessary? We want to make sure it makes it into the navigator.

I also plan on making a couple extras in case one gets stolen. I'll bring extra pens also.

Thanks

Ok, Busy juggling Easter prep stuff and cruise stuff.

* Did the online check -in
* Still listed as Gty Cat 12 on DCL website.:sad2:
* Called Air France & Continental and got seat assignments for 2 of our 3 flights home. Will have to do the BCN-Paris flight when I check in though.
* Interesting trivia, Air France had all four of us listed as Adult Males:rotfl2: , corrected that and got all of our passport information input also.

Got the children's group info - thank you! We'll get the kids going on that this weekend.

Ken - you gave me another item for my "to do" list - buy champagne & martinelli's in Florida for sailaway at Castaway Cay! Thanks!

LOVE the fish extenders - deluxe and otherwise. Might have to drop into the fabric store and see what I can find ... yikes, one more thing for the "to do" list!

Came up with some more questions:
1. Since my DH is not travelling with us, do I need any sort of special documentation for the kids?:confused3
2. I really want to bring a bottle (or 2!) of sherry back for my DH. But I don't know how to pack it in my suitcase so I don't have drippy, wet sherry-smelling clothes? Suggestions?

Need to run now. Family is watching HSM for Family Movie night!  (Small confession... I've never actually seen it so I suggested it for tonight:rolleyes1 . Older kids have seen it, but mom hasn't!)

Anna

Of course you realize that this power may have fallen into the wrong hands now....the power of posting pics to the DisBoards....now I may feel compelled to post all kinds of crazy pics on here....like Jason and I riding Buzz Lightyear in our "halloween costumes" at the Not So Scary Halloween Party...or pictures of my kitty!!

MUWAHAHAHAHA:stir:

:tigger:
Erik

OK! I get it! You're losing control! I won't post any more pics, although I will say I love your fish extender!

Anna,
I frequently take my kids to Mexico without my DH (he has no desire to spend a week visiting my parents--even if it is in Puerto Vallarta! ). When only one parent is leaving the country with children you do need to have a notarized letter from the other parent saying it is okay. Something along the lines of
"To Whom It May Concern:
My wife _____________ and children ________ will be traveling on board the Disney Magic to _______________ on these dates with an expected return to the US on _______________. This trip out of the country so being taken with my full knowledge and consent."

Single parents can bring a copy of a court order granting them custody, a copy of the other parent's death certificate, the child's birth certificate showing "father unknown" etc.

There is a form on the DCL website to print and have notarized for people taking their grandchild, a friend of the family, etc.

I know many people go on DCL without this and do not seem to have any issues. And, we have been on many flights where it is never asked for. :rolleyes1 On the other hand, we have been on many flights where officials at every stop along the way (both leaving and returning to the US) ask to see it. So, my advice would be get it done (not hard to do and MUCH better safe than stuck in Orlando and sorry).

Hello, all!

We are trending heavily in favor of exchanging onboard. Thus, I will keep the list open for another week or so and post a few more reminders. If anyone else wants to mail ahead, please PM your info to me over the weekend. I will match up the mail ahead folks early next week so be on the lookout!

I just clicked my own link and it doesn't work! How about this in case it's not just me...

I have done an update to the roster. Maybe this weekend I will indicate which rooms are message rooms. It will also be in the mini-navigator.

Wow...how fascinating...and somewhat disconcerting (since I gather this kind of documentation is necessary because of issues like child trafficking and kidnapping...by strangers and members of one's own family). It would never have occurred to me to even think of such a thing!!

1. someone else answered this one...Eric I agree - in fact the same is true for crossing state lines. If one is taking children across state lines the same problems can arise. It is a sad state of affairs, isn't it? We can track animals better than children - has anyone seen those ads for Home Again - the pet finding chip?

2. I find that if I buy the neoprene bottle jackets at Chef Central or any other wine store, then wrap the bottle in a towel and tape it closed it comes home fine! I managed to get 3 liters of Amaretto in a shattered suitcase home intact - the TSA opened the wrapping all the way up and carefully retaped it! I got a smiley on my "we looked here" tag. I was carrying for everyone since I managed to pack it all in and stay under weight.

Our kitten HAS one of those chips!! Every person with an animal should get one.....they're not that expensive and mroe and more vets and human societies and shelters are automatically scanning any stray animals they recover and that little chip can make sure your pet gets home!!

Oh I agree - I just think it is a shame that we can't track kids that way sometimes...this was not an attempt to go Orwell on anyone...just a loose thought. We have more lost kids than pets, yet we can find the pets.

I am glad you have one - my little fuzzy friends are not allowed out side at all - since I live in a high rise, they would have to work the elevator, heavy doors x 3 or jump 120' - not happening!

I would not want anything to happen to any of the fuzzy faces - they live here - I pay the mortgage :rotfl:

I am having a moment again - I lost page 143 again :scared1: :scared1: - I dont' use the threaded view - I use the linear one - so I can never seem to find the post number. Could someone please take mercy on me and pm or post the link?

You can always get it on the top of the roster page :)

Click on the link in my signature.... "what's happening"

Thank you Debbie - it is post 2131. I now have it as it's own tab in IE - this should help. Sometimes I really worry about my "blonde-ness"

I just checked the roster - we have changed our dining rotation to early now. Too many tummy aches on the Panama cruise!! Could you update us? Also, Barbara now is a Dis member!! her ID is BFL you may see her posting, but mostly she is lurking on this board - she does more posting on the photography boards - she is really good!!

Thank you!! I saw the friend of the family form on DCL, but couldn't find anything about missing parent. I'll definitely get this done right away.

I'll look for the bottle jacket things. Good to know that glass & liquids can survive the baggage handler gorillas (I'm dating myself - samsonite commercial:rotfl2: )

I didn't know about needing it for state lines also. Last summer the kids and I drove up to WA to visit some good friends. The liquor taxes in WA are quite high so we make a "Costco run" for our friends when we drive up. The back of the minivan was filled with a year's supply of liquid libations. I was worried about having to explain that if I got pulled over. It never occurred to me that I might have to explain my missing DH too.:rotfl2:

HSM was very good. Eric & Rio, I am impressed that you know all the songs and the dances:thumbsup2 . Linda, I told DD's that your DD was in the movie. Now I have to go back and find your post because they want to know which one she is.

The winemaker is in Northern California - we visited last year and had a great time.

My advice is to buy it in Florida before you get on board. It's a lot cheaper! They sell it at Downtown Disney and many of the hotels.

Ken

Thank you for the tip Ken! Unfortunately we aren't arriving in Orlando until 6 am that morning, and then straight to the port. Hmm--maybe there's a place at the airport I can check. Thank you though! Cheers! :yay:
