OK...I may have figured this out already myself......let's see if this works:

Yup, there it is.....so that's what my fish extender/message center looks like...and it also gives you a sneak preview of our tropical shirts since I used the leftover fabric AND buttons from our shirts to make this thing!!

:thumbsup2

YAY!! You did it!

Looks great. :)

It may be a bit too wide, but you will make it work

Debbie

WOW! Eric, that is so cool! Here's the one I made:

Erik-- I can't believe that you just threw that together with no pattern, on a whim in one night. What talents don't you posses?

Really? because the Walt Disney WORLD resort just got major press in mid March (a couple weeks ago) because they are DENYING these kinds of weddings/commitment ceremonies. I did a search and couldn't find a link to the new information....Kelly...if you happen to find it posted online anywhere as an article or a press release...send it my way...I'd be curious to check it out!

Reuters ran it:

Disney opens Fairy Tale Weddings to gay couples
Thu Apr 05 23:21:16 UTC 2007

By Gina Keating

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The Walt Disney Co. has changed its policy to allow same-sex couples to participate in a popular Fairy Tale Wedding program it runs mainly at its two U.S. resorts and cruise line, a Disney spokesman said on Thursday.

Disney previously had allowed gay couples to organize their own weddings or commitment ceremonies at rented meeting rooms at the resorts, but had barred them from purchasing its Fairy Tale Wedding package and holding the event at locations at Disneyland and Walt Disney World that are set aside specifically for weddings.

"We are updating our Fairy Tale Wedding guidelines to include commitment ceremonies," Disney Parks and Resorts spokesman Donn Walker said. "This is consistent with our policy of creating a welcoming, respectful and inclusive environment for all of our guests."

Walker said the change was prompted by "an inquiry from a guest that asked about this service."

Disney had allowed gay couples to take part in its vow renewals program but excluded them from buying wedding packages by requiring a valid marriage license from California or Florida, which do not permit or recognize gay marriages.

Last month, gay Web site AfterElton.com criticized Disney for not allowing same-sex couples to participate in the Fairy Tale Weddings and Honeymoons program.

Disney's Fairy Tale Wedding packages start at $8,000 and include a wedding planner, the ceremony, food and beverages, flowers and table decorations.

The Lavish Wedding Option also includes a ride to the ceremony in the Cinderella coach, costumed trumpeters heralding the couple's arrival, and attendance by Mickey and Minnie Mouse characters dressed in formal attire.

Disney has come under fire from religious conservatives, including the Southern Baptist Convention, which have accused the company of promoting a gay agenda.

The groups, which lifted an eight-year boycott of Disney in 2005, had criticized the company for such corporate policies as giving health benefits to same-sex partners of employees, allowing "Gay Day" celebrations at its theme parks and airing a prime time television show on its ABC network featuring openly gay comedian Ellen DeGeneres.

"We are not in the business of making judgments about the lifestyle of our guests. We are in the hospitality business and our parks and resorts are open to everyone," Walker said.

Thanks...I'm happy enough with it....unless it's too big! It's not as neatly finished as I would normally like (or as our shirts or Tink ties are)...but I was really making it up as I went with just various scraps of fabric and no pattern at all so there was a lot of piece-mealing and trial and error.....but it's the effort that counts! (And Jason hasn't a crafty or creative bone in his poor body so he was incredibly impressed....and since it's for our room, that's good enough for me! )

Wow! Everyone is so talented. Y'all have inspired me. Maybe, just maybe I'll make one too. I think I have enough sewing to do. Still don't have the zipper back in DS8's dress pants. Maybe tonight I'll get around to ordering the fabric for our vests. Maybe.

Of course you realize that this power may have fallen into the wrong hands now....the power of posting pics to the DisBoards....now I may feel compelled to post all kinds of crazy pics on here....like Jason and I riding Buzz Lightyear in our "halloween costumes" at the Not So Scary Halloween Party...or pictures of my kitty!!

MUWAHAHAHAHA:stir:

Cupcake.... do you have your Mom's info for the roster. I would be happy to add her name.

Hi Debbie! I PM'd you yesterday and just resent it in case it got lost. There's nothing like seeing your name up on the official list to make it seem real!! Thanks again for keeping track of everyone, it is definitely not an easy task!

And all I can say to all the talented and crafty people out there is WOW. Trust me, anything I tried to sew would look like something from the preschool craft group at summer camp!! But I certainly am admiring everything and look forward to seeing it all in person.

 Cupcake

Greg--I am impressed you have managed to read all of the posts:thumbsup2 I never did make it through ALL of the ones that were there from before we joined. You should be able to send a PM soon (requires having made a minimum number of posts--I was thinking hte number may be 5, in which case it should work for you now). Just in case Elizabeth does not see your post before she orders the braceletts today I'll send over a PM with your info.

Erik--I am visualizing you and Jason exiting the theatre after the early show and being mobbed by papparrazzi style early DIS diners trying to get a prized glimpse of your ties. :rotfl:

Greg, Welcome aboard!! Same as Hadley, I tried to start from the beginning and only made it to the mid thirties before heading to page 143 and beyond. :surfweb:

I think you should be able to be an honorary PM sender just for going through 5000 posts!! Forget having to post 5 times.

Erik--Scott has a great idea. You SHOULD do a side business on one of a kind Disney ties. You'd make a mint! We'd buy some too!

Happy Weekend everyone! (Not for us until Monday, but that's Vegas for you:cool1: )
Chris (and Robert)

I would make more disney ties EXCEPT I foudn that ties made out of regular cotton fabric don't make very nice ties....so it's hard to find Disney fabric that is satin or silk or has the sheen of a "real" tie....that's why we were lucky to find the Tink fabric we did. I found TONS of great Nemo fabric (not shiny), but when I tried to make a tie out of it I wasn't happy with how the ties looked.

My :rolleyes1 th birthday is right before the cruise, so I will be sorta celebrating on the cruise.

Peter (Hygeine99) has a birthday right before the cruise also, but sadly they won't be on the cruise.:sad2:

May 13th have a drink for me Bob
As you Leave CC :)
See ya in Barcelona!!!
 :hippie:

What exactly do we need to commit to to be a message door? Other than the space for the message board thing? I have to contend now with this gargantuan fish extender I made...but we're not going crazy (yet) with any kind of door signage really...so Jason and I could volunteer our door as long as someone told us what to do (or is someone else responsible for going around and updating them or whatever....what's the protocol for how that happens?). We are in 8056 which is about 1/2 way between the midship and aft elevators...and it appears we're relatively close to a few clusters of other DisBoard rooms.

Erik

What Erik--afraid to actually commit to a new project without knowing the specifics? You mean between making one of a kind ties, tropical shirt, multi-purpose fish extender/corkboard/dry erase board things, organizing the onboard gymnastics/dance competitions, banner making, pre packing, PLUS your real life of work, more business trips, and preparing for you AIDS walk, you are afraid to take on more?! :lmao: :lmao:

Seriously, the project looks awesome.

Susie--I LOVE your board--I'm surprised you didn't get 50 volunteers to be the board door just so we could all have one. It's VERY cute, I love it!

Connie--Cinderella at ANY age is darling.

Kelly--Thanks for the info on the article

Wish so many celebrations taking place, I'm bummed I don't have any special things onboard. Can I make one up? ;)

We are crossing the Atlantic Ocean on the Disney Magic - what could be better! I think that's a special thing!!!

Ken

Ken, I LOVE the Fairy Tale Cuvee!! It's my favorite drink on the ship.

The winemaker is in Northern California - we visited last year and had a great time.

My advice is to buy it in Florida before you get on board. It's a lot cheaper! They sell it at Downtown Disney and many of the hotels.
