Thank you!! I saw the friend of the family form on DCL, but couldn't find anything about missing parent. I'll definitely get this done right away.

I'll look for the bottle jacket things. Good to know that glass & liquids can survive the baggage handler gorillas (I'm dating myself - samsonite commercial:rotfl2: )

I didn't know about needing it for state lines also. Last summer the kids and I drove up to WA to visit some good friends. The liquor taxes in WA are quite high so we make a "Costco run" for our friends when we drive up. The back of the minivan was filled with a year's supply of liquid libations. I was worried about having to explain that if I got pulled over. It never occurred to me that I might have to explain my missing DH too.:rotfl2:

HSM was very good. Eric & Rio, I am impressed that you know all the songs and the dances:thumbsup2 . Linda, I told DD's that your DD was in the movie. Now I have to go back and find your post because they want to know which one she is.

whew..I remember those gorillas...I think it is worse today!

I have to deal with health care for kids without parents - that is why I am aware of the state line thing...we have had to call fathers in NYC and they have no idea the kids are in NJ, sometimes in breach of a court order...gets messy. I had a state trouper tell me about it years ago also - I am sure that you would not have a problem for the most part. I think it is an issue with foster care kids, divorced parents in coustody fights, etc.

I have a co-worker who lives in Florida and works in NJ/NY. When he brings his daughter up he has to bring a letter from his wife so there are no problems with her flying with him. I guess he doesn't look the daddy part :confused3

Wow...how fascinating...and somewhat disconcerting (since I gather this kind of documentation is necessary because of issues like child trafficking and kidnapping...by strangers and members of one's own family). It would never have occurred to me to even think of such a thing!!

:tigger:
ERik

Just adding my two cents but usually when you have a passport for your children you don't need additional documentation because when you got the passport you had to have your husband submit something saying that youo can take the children out of the country. We did in Arizona so that should be all the documentation you need because if you have the passport that is the document.:goodvibes

Thanks everyone for the welcome wishes! To try and get through a few updates-

Debbie (EPKfan) we are late dins!

Cquick - no problem with the sleeping arrangements - everyone rolls the same way at the same time in the big waves!

Kissimmee - Point of no return (PNR) is still used today. They calculate the PNR between the two closest ports as they go just in case of an emergency. Don't forget to calculate current and wind drift into your equation! The GPS takes care of it for them!

Will post this now as I need the posts to be able to pm people!

Regards,
Greg:wave:

Wonder if anyone knows if a renewing of vows service can be done on the ship?

I saw on an early post reference to lime green shirts - can someone please enlighten me if this is something being done on this cruise?

I cannot see a laundromat on the deck plans - is there one?

I am sure many more questions are on the way but thanks for looking at these!

Regards,
Greg:)

I don't think you normally need extra letters, etc. to take kids across state lines; only in special situations as Padalyn said. I fly the kids to Colorado every year (David doesn't really like to visit his family either--unless they meet us at WDW or on DCL as they will this trip:rotfl2: ) and I have never had anyone question where David is. We also drive to Vermont and Massachusettes pretty often not only just without David but also often with friend's children:rolleyes1 . I think the key difference is if it were a custody dispute (the major problem they are watching for with all of this) no US state will harbbor a non custodial parent and allow him/her to keep a child--whereas some other countries will. Hoagie, it is interesting you had to submit a form saying the other person could take the child out of the country solo when you applied for a passport. I don't recall that form. Maybe it is newer than our most recent set of passports. It is a good addition. None the less, I would recommmend the letter as I have run into it being asked for as recently as last November (by a total of 6 people at different points on the trip down to PV and 2 on the trip home). It seems to me that a divorce and therefore a custody dispute could easily come up in the five years a passport is valid for a child and thus the state department would not want to rely on one generic form.

Oddly, on that last trip where I was asked (I always just keep it tucked away unless asked--I find it inetersting how random it is) for the letter 6 times, when the gate agent at JFK was checking it, another gate agent came over and said they no longer need them for trips to Mexico as Mexico has agreed to return kids in custody disputes and apologized that it had been asked for. I don't really know if the official policy did change, but every gate agent, the immigration officer in Mexico and the security personell in Boston ALL asked for it, so if it did change not many people got the message. All I could think was if I didn't have it (even if I officially did not need it) I would have missed flights while they tried to figure out the rules.

Greg--DCL normally does offer a vow renewal package. I recall hearing somewhere that it was not being offered on this cruise, but I don't remember where nor do I know if that is true. I suggest calling DCL and asking.

Greg Again;) --There are laundry rooms on board (one each on decks 2, 6, and 7). You'll want to bring a roll of quarters as the change machines do not always work. Laundry rooms can be very busy even on shorter trips--I am not sure what to expect this time around.

Thank you for the tip Ken! Unfortunately we aren't arriving in Orlando until 6 am that morning, and then straight to the port. Hmm--maybe there's a place at the airport I can check. Thank you though! Cheers! :yay:
We live in Orlando, we can bring you some to the ship if you like. We are bringing some been, some chanpagne, some wine, some rum, some vodka, some tequila and some water. (don't tell anyone)

Wonder if anyone knows if a renewing of vows service can be done on the ship?
YES! It's great ( from what I've heard)
I saw on an early post reference to lime green shirts - can someone please enlighten me if this is something being done on this cruise?
Lime Green is the Official color of DisBoards. We have several fromother cruises. So go ahead and wear them!
I cannot see a laundromat on the deck plans - is there one?

ask as many questions as you want! you'll get lots of answers!

Finally made it home last night at 3:00am, it was an adventure in travel, sadly United missed the mark, I have been traveling all my life and United is dear to my heart as my dad is retired from United. Simply put the right hand and left hand were on different bodies. Ramp crew forgot to give the flight crew the paperwork, letting people get off the plane, different info at counter vs gate, and so it goes…. The travel gods did smile and our IDA to DEN flight was delayed, Crew Issue, and we made that flight by the hair of our chinney chin chin…. It’s good to be home.

Snowing here today, having mouse waffles….

Lori, I will be there for coffee at 0600 also…. Actually several of us will. Sunrise is KEWL!!!

KEWL job you guys on the Fish Extenders… I wonder if that is a in Wakapedia(sp?) yet. Debbie you should get all the credit for those thingies.

Ok Erik, as Chris suggested a good idea for the tie business, since I was a major factor in giving you the push, do I get a Free tie????

Remember Peter, we will be looking for the Red DVC hat unless you tell us different… Man it will be great to see you guys.

Hey Ken, I could bring any left over glasses from the wine and Cheese event…..for the Peter Bday toast…. Peter we will be thinking of ya.

Anna, It might not be a bad Idea to have a notarized letter from you husband with ya stating he is aware of your travel and permission etc…

Reference packing Wine, lots of zip lock bags, should do the trick and wrap in a tie dye T-shirt just in case. Also pack in carry on for the ship, and not the plane

Our pups have chips, I think it makes them beg for treats and is a plot by the treat makers, just kidding about the treat part…

HKSILVERFOX, yes guest laundry on the ship, deck 7 for sure. Also 2 and 6, they are coin operated. Vows can be renewed, I think there are packages for those wishing to do so. Lime green is kind of official DIS Board color, help ID other DIS folks. Hope that helps and ask away.

Sorry if I double answered some questions.. Have a good weekend, off to Walmart soon.

good morning guys, well the top story for the past 24 hours here has been about the Greek cruise sinking. Two of the girls were from Huntington Beach (one min. from my house) so, we've had to see it over and over again. UGH!

Xllnt fish extenders you guys!

Erik, That is very impressive that you found the lime green fabric to go on your fish extender. Love the buttons.

Tax day here!

My advice is to buy it in Florida before you get on board. It's a lot cheaper! They sell it at Downtown Disney and many of the hotels.

Ken
Ken, where can you purchase wine in Downtown Disney? I was wondering how I would go about purchasing wine for Scott and Lynn's wine and cheese party. Since I don't arrive until 3:30pm and am doing ME to my resort, I probably won't have my checked luggage until after the party. But if I can pick up something at Downtown Disney, that would work for me.

Lime green is the DISboards color. Actually, the "official" color is the "Alien Green" Disney paint chip that can be found at Home Depot. On our last cruise (Mexican Riviera), most of us wore lime green shirts when we boarded so that we could recognize one another as being from the DISboards. I haven't heard much talk about it on this thread, but I will probably be wearing lime green.

I was looking at the doing the chocolate museum on my own since it is sold out through Disney. Does anybody else think this sounds fun? I e-mailed the museum for information because the website said you needed to make reservations in advance to do any of the activities. What time is everyone going to the magic Fountain?

The Kitchen shop next to "Earl of Sandwich" has wine - but I'm not sure if they have any cold. Most of the Disney hotels that have the gift store/market have a limited selection of cold wine.

Sorry if this has been posted in the last 15 pages...I'm a whole 24 hours behind....geez! Anyway, I'm unhappy with my current hairdresser. I've gone to him for 15 years and love him as a person, but not so much cutting my hair anymore. But I hate to hurt him. Anyway, I was thinking of getting my hair cut on the ship as an excuse to go to someone different and maybe try a different style and then maybe my current stylist can keep it up.

One of my new friends from this list (Cupcake) advised against this being concerned about the stylist on the ship not having any regular clientele, so not really having to worry about making anyone happy on a regular basis. But I'm getting desperate! My hair is a mess and I think it might be fun to go to someone different and the cruise is a great opportunity. Does anyone have any experience with this? Any bad haircuts, or great haircuts? What do you guys think?

I really want someone to look at my face and hair and say..."I know what would be perfect for you!" and then just do it. Am I asking too much?

I have just skimmed the boards faswt and have 30 seconds to post before we head to Jason's parents' house for Easter......but on our last cruise our tablemate got her hair done on the ship and they did an OUTSTANDING job. She got it cut and colored and it wasn't cheap she told us...but her hair looked incredible! I have also gotten my hair done at Disney salons in Orlando at the Grand Floridian and at Coronado and both times got excellent service.

Cupcake is right. The hairdresser does not have a regular clientele so she doesn't have to worry about repeat customer. I was in the same boat as you are when we went on the PC cruise. I wasn't particularly pleased with my haircut. It wasn't bad but not great. She tried to sell me a lot of other add-ons. Of course this was 2 years ago and I'm sure there is someone new so it might work out great for you. I plan to get my haircut here 2 days before we sail.

Ken, if I put up the magnets I bought from cafe-press will I need to worry about someone taking them. We leave things in our stroller at the Park all the time and have never had anything taken. So I was wondering if you have ever put your magnets on your door and had any problems?

I have become addicted to this thread. I check it when I get up in the morning and in the evening when things have settled down. It is hard to keep up. I don't have time to read the paper, magazines, or books anymore. I'm so busy catching up with all your posts. You have all made this up-coming cruise so much fun for all us newbies. I will always be grateful to the family from Vancouver, Canada who told me about this Disboard at the LA airport. You
