May 11th 2008 ~ Any Double Dippers Out There?

Oh thank you. Very interesting information. Good to know there is stuff out there like that. My son is 5 and around 50+pounds so it looks like he'll be good to go on the plane this time. :thumbsup2

Should i contact my TA about an upgrade to a verandah cabin. Right now we are in a category 10 on deck 2.

probably will bag the tuxedo idea..

happy opening day!

We contacted our TA to see how much to upgrade yesterday. We are in a sideways Cat 11. To upgrade to a cat 7 it was about $800. For us, I thought $800 was too much for a 4 night cruise. We would rather spend that mony at the spa and on gifts! Our TA did say that there was a lot of open cabins still, so there was a good chance of a free upgrade from DCL. Pixiedust that someone on our thread will get a free upgrade!!!!!!pixiedust:

Now THAT would be fantastic!!! I've never been upgraded- how do we find out if we are upgraded? Is it done at the terminal when you check in? I know Disney sends your travel documents and luggage tags 14-30 days before cruising and those have your cabin info on them. If they upgrade you after that, how does your luggage find you (since Disney picks it up at the airport).

I feel the same way :thumbsup2 Pshhht, but not so much on gifts, unless they're all for MEMEMEME!! :rotfl:

Right around the 30 day mark before our cruise, you should start checking your reservation info on dcl.com. It will list your room number if you previously only had a GTY status, or your current room number may change if you've been upgraded. Or you can just wait until you receive your documents and check the room number listed. But generally people start posting whenever they get their room #'s or about upgrades, so it will probably be too much temptation at that point to wait for the docs ;) I think most upgrades will be reflected in time to match your tags, but other wise I would imagine they're well aware of where your luggage should go.

Though be aware that you may not always be happy with an "upgrade". For instance, we're in cat 12, which places us directly beneath the Cadillac Lounge and Diversions. We could be upgraded to a cat 10, which might be great. But there is also a group of cat 10's located right underneath Wavebands, which is louder and more active for longer in the evening than Cadillac and Diversions. If I were "upgraded" to those cats I think I'd ask them to...ummm...degrade me.

Heather...what room number are you in? We are also in a sideways room. 5509. I requested a sideways room since it seems to give us more room since we'll have lots of baby stuff. I'd still take an upgrade!! The cool thing is, we will be right down the hall from the kids clubs on 5.

So..ummmm...

anyone else still working on their easter candy? :rolleyes1 I polished off the last of the miniature reese's easter eggs this morning and am very very sad. Where are you easter bunny?

Hmm lucky for me my son is not crazy about chocolates and even luckier for me the Easter Bunny always chooses chocolates I just happen to love - including those wonderful Reese's peanut butter eggs - and tonight I am looking forward to finishing up the last wonderful chocolate rabbit. :cloud9:

Yea, we were pretty excited (and sad too) that the last of the first round of candy was almost gone. The Easter bunny got the kiddies mostly little Easter toys. But THEN...Grandma and DSisinlaw struck. Two big giant bags of candy and so many chocolate bunnies it's ridiculous! I was hoping to drop a few pounds of baby fat before the trip! This is making it extra tough. We no sooner finished the Halloween candy, then had the leftovers from Thanksgiving, right into all the Christmas Cookies, Son's Baptism in Jan., Valentine's day goodies, then EASTER!!! Yikes! Junk, junk, and more junk!!! I don't believe we have any eating holidays in Apr.!! Whew! Now if we can just have some consistent nice WARM weather here in Northeast Ohio, I can get my butt outside and start walking.

Hi Neighbor!!!!! We are in 5513!!! We love the sideways cat 11. It does give you a little more room the reg cat. 11. We always book a sideways cat. 11. We love the fact that it is right in the middle of the ship ( easy to go up or down). We also loved the fact that we were so close to the kids club as well. Of course that will not matter on this trip since we are going to be kids free this time! The room really is in a good part of the ship. There are rooms above so not a lot of noise. Since there are not a lot of rooms on deck five, there is very little foot traffic. It still would be nice to get a free upgrade. I always kind of wanted a Cat 7 or Cat 8. Just too cheap to pay for one!!!

Hello!:flower3:

Can't wait to double dip!!!!

Still waiting for my cabin assignment . . . how soon should they be asssigned?

Me again:flower3:

Where can I find more information about fish extenders? I'm a total nubie when it comes to this topic.

Obviously, I'd like to join in the fun:banana:

Hi everyone! It's been a while since I've posted and I see I've missed alot. Forgive me if this question has already been asked but I have a question about the specifically the boat tour excursions. Can someone tell me which one is best: Sunshine Glass Bottom Boat Tour in Nassau; the Scenic Voyage Boat Tour @ Castaway Cay, or the Nassau Harbor Cruise? I want to book something that all of us (me + DD, 4, DS 13) can enjoy together and a scenice tour that's worthy of an amateur photographer!

I am getting REALLY excited about this cruise. My DS has no earthly idea that this has been planned-I'm going to suprise him the "day of": Tell him to pack a bag the night before and off we go the next morning! I have already bought my kids cruisewear-now it's my turn!

By the way-here's a tidbit you won't believe: I applied for and sent in my kids passport apps March 14th and received them on the March 25th!!!:thumbsup2 Now for the govt you have got to admit that's fast!!!

We will be in stateroom 5140 and I hope to meet some of you onboard!:yay:

Maria, are you in a Cat. 12? If so, you will be given your room number right around the 11th. Only another week.

Heather, we had a sideways room our last cruise, but it was Deck 6. It was a good location except to get to Topsiders and the Mickey Pool, but otherwise perfect for everything else. It'll be nice for you to go right to the adult pool. It's also nice for the gym. I think we had a sideways room on our 1st or 2nd cruise. We didn't know any different back then. It was nice this last time because our hostess moved the coffee table over by the wall between the closet and the bathroom. We also had the trunk to store stuff in. DD will probably just sleep w/ us as our sofa always seems to turn into a catch all. We turn our cabin into home pretty quickly! We will also have a pack n play in there this time.

Good for you Angela on getting those passports so fast. We opted not to get them this year. I know we are taking our chances but we are short on cash this year due to the icky Real Estate market. Cruising W/ DVC points and perk points from DH's old job, plus Christmas/Birthday money, rebates, rewards pts., etc. Trying to go as cheaply as possible. :thumbsup2

Hi Angela! Welcome! I haven't been on a Disney cruise so I can't answer your first question. But I did sign my family up for the Nassau Harbor Cruise - I figured it would be something slow paced but scenic for my family so we could at least get a glimpse of the island and then have some time for shopping!

That is so cool you're doing this as a surprise!! We are doing Disney World prior so my son knows about that but he has no clue about the cruise - he's going to be thrilled!!!! (I hope!!) But he's been on a cruise before and he loved it, so this hopefully will be out of this world for him. We're not going to tell him till the day of the cruise.

My TA just told me that there are Cat 5 rooms available on the ship, and its a $200 pp to switch to that room.

I am going to stay in My Cat 9 on deck 2.

See you soon

R'uh R'oh -- did you guys going to the parks read about the HUGE increase on strollers going into effect on April 6? CRAZY! You all have my biggest sympathies

Though if it helps, in a thread on the theme park board a lady listed a company that will rent you a stroller and drop it off at your resort for much cheaper than WDW...and on the budget board they are doing stroller swaps. Hope that helps.

Yes, I booked a GTY12 for the 4 of us: me, DH, DS11, DD9. I know I will have an 11 for sure, but I'm excited to find out where we are on the ship! I can take any location just fine . . . I'm just thrilled to be on again. We went in 2004 on the Magic. This trip will celebrate our 15th Wedding Anniversary!!

Hi Maria! Welcome aboard! :welcome: Don't know about the cabin assignments but hope you get a good one!

Yvonne

Thanks! I hope I get a good one, too:cool1:

I just read about that . . . crazy!!! I'm glad we don't need one this time, but we've used them before and they ARE lifesavers!!!

That is crazy! I had thought about renting a stroller at one time - even though my DS is 5 - thought it might be at least a help to carry stuff around - but when I mentioned it to him he looked at me like I was crazy and said "I'm not a baby! I'm a big boy!" End of discussion. No stroller rentals for this family.

BTW Brandi - how did the dental work and in-laws all go???
