May 11th 2008 ~ Any Double Dippers Out There?

Melissa, as far as an official Pirate costume, I know others have just bought one of the flowy gauze skirts that are popular again and a big wide belt at Walmart or someplace for cheap and just a white blouse and lots of jewelry, etc. I don't think we're dressing up. There weren't too many people dressed up on our last cruise, although that was in '06 so maybe more people are aware of it now. I guess we're party poopers. (or mom's just lazy and doesn't feel like buying, packing, etc) I know DD would love to dress up, but eh...we're short on funds this year.

Thank you for the ideas!!

We only have the costumes we have because I got them on clearance from the Disney outlet and also had an extra percentage discount code, so I got a great price on them. I also got a GORGEOUS 3-piece set of MM luggage for under $35!!! We also know this may very well be the only cruise we ever get to go on, so we want to make the best of it. PLUS, we don't celebrate Halloween, so even though my children always have costumes available to them for imaginative play, I thought it would be fun for them to dress up when others will be dressed up also, and get to party that way. :goodvibes

I watched some youtube vids last night and found a couple of pirate parties on the cruise... The majority of people were not dressed up, other than maybe the head scarves, but a good number of them were. I hope our cruise has at least that many dressed up. :D

Ummmm... Karen?

I was just looking at the first post of the thread, where you have added cruiser's names, etc...

I thought your cruise was gonna be a girl's only trip! Did I miss a story there? :upsidedow

OK - I was assigned a room when we booked (and I'm at work so I can't log on because my confirmation number is home- UGH)... anyway, could I possibly have a different room number now? (as in would upgrades be seen now??)

Definitely maybe....does that help? :rotfl: I know for sure it happens sometimes, but no one knows if, when or why. DCL likes to mess with our minds ;)

Well it didn't happen- I just called DH, got my confirmation number and logged on. I'm still in the same cabin (adjoining with my mom). One can only hope right??

I guess it does happen sometimes - we had a regular stateroom on deck 6 with verandah - when I checked my reservation today we got upgraded to a deluxe family stateroom on deck 8 with verandah - woo hoo!!! I am beyond excited - never expected that to happen!!!!!!!! Thanks for the heads up to check today!

Upgraded from a 12GTY to a 10!! Split bathroom, here I come!!!:yay:

Thanks for the heads up . . . I had just checked yesterday and wasn't going to check today.

I hope you're still okay with the room you have. I have read that some people get to the port and find that they've been moved. I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Holy cow! That's awesome! That's the one with the murphy bed, right? So if no one wants to be suspended in the air, you're set with an extra bed. Way cool!

Yay! I think that's one thing I'll miss is that split bathroom! Nothing like trying to dry your hair in a room where your DH has just taken his usual 5 hour shower :rotfl:

I am surprised they went ahead and gave us our cats...I had even been checking the 5/10 Magic sailing to see if they had gotten their room #'s, and hadn't seen anything. So we got lucky and were tagged early. Yay! A little pixie dust. :wizard:

I'm completely okay with it. I would have loved a room with a veranda, but we have a Deluxe Family - outside cabin and for the amount of time we'll be in it.... pretty much just mornings and night time after the kids crash. I was hoping for the veranda so DH and I would have some place to go after the kids crash for some quiet one on one time- but my mom is in the next room so I bought bungee's so we can hold the doors open and if we want to go out my mom will watch the kids. It's all good. :)

Hello everyone! Got back this morning (OMG those overnight transatlantic flights are a killer) and spent the day getting back in the swing of things - OK, I mean sleeping on the sofa!!!

Barbados was lovely - DH and DS got all scuba-tastic whilst I just chilled, drank rum punch and read many books! My idea of heaven... :cloud9:

Hope y'all are healthy and happy! I look forward to catching up over the next few days... :goodvibes

PS: CAN"T BELIEVE HOW CLOSE THE CRUISE IS!!!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Well, we're still in the same staterooms, but I'm very happy with them! Not knowing how we'll all react to the ocean movement, I'm glad we're on the 1st deck, plus there are not many staterooms down there, so hopefully not much traffic, etc. The children will also each have their own window to look out, since we have the two portholes in each room. I think it'll be a great location!

I'm so happy for those of you who got upgrades, though! I hope you enjoy your new stateroom! :D I can't WAIT for the fun to start!! :yay:

Welcome Home Karen!! :jumping1: Missed you; can't wait to see the pics!

Thanks for the reminder -- I need to go find some trashy-type beach reading. No thinking or edification for me, just sun and fun until my brain turns to goo.

Welcome back Karen!
OK - I just put in a 10.5 hour day in the office and then worked 3.5 hours from home..... I NEED this vacation to come SOON!
I'm headed to bed- too tired to type any more!

Ok dolls, I finished my door sign. I would love some tips -- be brutal, I can take it :) I feel like there's something not quite right...like when you are hanging pictures or arranging shelves and you can't get that feeling of "completeness"...kwim? Like the white space or grouping may be off. I am somewhat limited as the "sparkles" are HIGHLY doctored with boxes, etc (had to fuss with regular, limited MS Publisher, lacking fancier software), so I can't add background color, but I'll consider all suggestions :thumbsup2

Do you have MS Powerpoint? I did mine in power point (they are somewhere in this thread and also posted in the Door Signs thread in the main cruise board). I used powerpoint so added backrground color and then saved it as a .jpg. Worked like a charm!!

I think it looks great though. I'm not a fan of white back grounds but other than that I Love it. If you want background color and don't have power point I'll be happy to do it for you. Just PM me!

Ok, I'm a doofus. The problem was that the sparkles are the same small blocks of clipart over and over, but tilted in various directions, and unwanted areas edited (i.e. whited out) via dozens of filled boxes (to avoid spending forever in photo editor). So using the standard background function wouldn't work on those individual boxes. But I just grouped them all together as one and filled them into the same color as the background.

Have I put you to sleep yet?

Suffice it to say there's now a color in the background :thumbsup2

Thanks for the offer of help Disneyfool. So sweet! I used to use Powerpoint for work and school, but discovered Publisher worked best for heavier graphic work. Which is really great b/c Powerpoint is just EVIL and using it gives me post-traumatic nightmares from my temp days trying to explain to techno-moron managers that, yes, it would be great if Powerpoint could do XYZ (something like fly a graphic holographically out of the computer screen for the purpose of fixing them a Latte), but that both the laws of physics and all-that-is-holy would make it impossible.

Brandi, I think it looks great. Now I remember why I don't do the door signs. My head is spinning just looking at yours and all involved. I'm just not crafty or artistic in the least. Even my own mother laughs at my gift wrapping. A little while ago, I decided I'd do a real estate blog of locations and fun things to do in Northeast Ohio (I know that sounds like an oxymoron, but there are a few fun things to do here:lmao: :rotfl2: ) Anyhow, I spent all day doing it and a good solid 3 hours of NOT leaving the computer. Adding clip art, links, etc. Well...you guessed it, I x'd out of one of the links and ta-da...my whole blog was gone. I was ready to explode. I can just see that happening on my doorsign. It's just not worth the frustration to me. I really, truly wish I enjoyed doing stuff like that, but it is just not in my blood. All of your doors will look much more fun than our boring one. Although I think we probably will get another DVC magnet!!:confused3

Melissa, I hope you didn't take my comment about us not dressing up for Pirate Night wrong. I know my DD would love it, and your kids will absolutely love it. I just can't see spending $25 - $30 on her little pirate outfit for one night. Like I mentioned...being in Real Estate right now isn't the best career choice, so we're limited on funds. When I said that not a lot of people were dressed up in '06, that was just to make me feel better about her not dressing up.:thumbsup2 You def. won't feel out of place being dressed up.

Boy, I really sound like a party pooper. No fish extender, no door magnet, not dressing up for Pirate Night. I really am a lot of fun!!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

I totally laughed out loud at the gift wrapping comment. I honestly think there is a specific gene required to be able to gift wrap...or an engineering degree. I always have to turn the "bad side" towards the Christmas tree...or cover it with another gift. Even DH laughs at me.

Yeah, the door art is as far as I go. It's easy -- requires a computer and the low financial means of printing and buying sticky magnets. Just my kind of project! I always like the idea of doing other stuff, but then I start devising a complicated formula in my mind where if x=cost and y=time involved, and there being one standard deviation from the mean of creative activity, we recognize that the door art acts as a huge outlier masking the fact that I thought the term "creative memories" was someone lying to their kids about how old they were the first time they had a drink. See what happens when you make an english major take a stat course? She just makes it up as she goes along...just not the part about liking the idea of doing creative stuff far more than actually doing it.

But I bow, as ever, to those of you dedicated. :worship:

P.S. re: blog, I would have sat down and cried from sheer frustration if that had happened to me. Seriously.
