I know how you feel Vanessa, I feel like that a lot sometimes too . . . I really like for my house to be neat and clean, but . . .

I’ve learned to think of it differently . . . Life, if you really think of it, disdains order. Life is messy. Life is not a museum, life is a carnival, a free for all. Whenever I have to pick up, or clean up all this stuff (which is hourly too) , I just look at it and tell myself this is the “evidence of life” all around me. Without all this stuff, without all this mess, there would be no life, and I have to be grateful for and remember these times because they do not last forever.

Some day my house may be the cleanest and stay clean for days at a time – only then will I realize what is missing, and I think I will miss it.

Amy has an aunt who always wanted to keep her house like a museum. The living room was an unapproachable place. You were afraid to take children there to visit.

Amy will attest that our house is full of the “Evidence of Life”, and I wouldn’t have it any other way – even though like Angie and Dennis, sometimes I could fill a dumpster with all that evidence!

John,

As always, you have succinctly put into words the profound truth of the "Evidence of Life". Sometimes life does become a bit overwhelming... but it does make me very appreciative of it when it is not as "Evident" sometimes!

My sister's house is ALWAYS perfect. She is a neat freak anyway, but she also lives alone, which I know also has it's own set of trade-offs... anyway, sometimes I am very embarrassed when she stops in and my house has WAY too much "evidence" in it!!

I know, I know, getting over it! I agree that the alternative would not be enjoyable!! (I think...)

Karen

I agree that the "evidence of life" memories are wonderful. However, I am a clean freak so I am happiest when my house is clean. Even when we travel, we are quite neat and I taught my kids to be the same. I don't mind the messes, just the constant cleanup. We live in the chaos with the GK's now so it is much easier as we are not responsible for the constant cleanup, just short bursts. Just something in my Germanic genes, I guess.

Noel,

Right there with you and the Germanic neat genes!!:thumbsup2

I also try to keep everything neat when we travel, but alas, I am thwarted by my "two kids" who are inherently messy, (DD gets it from DH).:confused3

I keep hoping that some of my neatness will rub off on her... someday!;)

Karen

How could I forget Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlein or Larry Niven!!!

Mote in Gods' Eye, Lucifers Hammer, Stranger in a Strange Land and on and on...

Both DD and I love Sci Fi, fantasy, thrillers and horror!! I also love mysteries and adventure novels that tie to history, like Clive Cussler books. I also enjoy the police/detective novels like Harry Bosch and Jack Reeper and the Italian detective that is not coming to me at the moment... must be time for bed soon!

Have you guys read "the Historian" yet?

Karen

We have salmon. I think I will wrap it in foil and bake it. Yum! Rice and a veggie with it. And maybe some sour dough bread, buttered and broiled. Won't DrHug be happy to hear no cereal tonight!! :rotfl2:

BBQ'ed Salmon last night with bacon fried yukon gold potatoes, corn on the cobb and heirloom tomatoes with mozarella, fresh basil and olive oil!

Tonight was lamb chops, sauteed asparagus, fettucine and crescent rolls!

Yum!! DH is such a good cook! :thumbsup2 I'll never loose weight!!:confused3

I was afraid of that - probably more violence and sex instead of good stories, which is what I was afraid of. I LOVED those original shows when I was a kid - the Six Million Dollar Man, and the Bionic Woman.

Just out of curiousity Noel, are you a Battlestar Galactica fan? A friend hooked me on that one last year.

Loved the movie!! May need to Netflix the series as I did not catch it from the beginning on TV.

We saw Edward Jame Olmos at Candelight last December. He was probably the best we've ever seen. Truly involved with the feeling of the event. Sang with the songs as well and was very emotional when mentioning that his entire family was there to share the season with him.

Great actor, and seems like a great person as well.

Just stopping by with a quick note.

Can't remember if I updated you with the last info on mom...the surgeon detected an irregular heart beat. After a visit with the cardiologist on Friday it has been decided that surgery is still on for Thursday. The hard part on this is that she has a much higher risk for stroke/heart attack during the surgery and mom has a DNR. Much worry I'm afraid until it's over. I'll try to check in between now and then, but I'm feeling a bit outta my mind, so not sure if I am up to it.

We ended up going to the AG store on Friday and spent the rest of the weekend at Disneyland. Paul & Wilson gave up their race. I needed some away time. I have to say even the Happiest Place on Earth didn't make me happy. I was missing my mom's company the whole time.

With some of the difficulties with illness several of our friends here are having, I thought this article was a great one.

thanks for sharing this with us. I needed to have a peice of peace today and this was just the ticket.

It's funny what lime green will do to you!!

I look for it everywhere and if I see someone wear it I automatically think DIS!

okay, I did see alot of lime in Dland and thought of you guys everytime, that I must admit gave me a bit of happiness. :goodvibes

Our weekend starts tomorrow - so we are going to DL for the day. Tomorrow is the first day of Halloween stuff at the parks. Can't wait to see all the decorations.

It was very beautiful, thanks for sharing your pictures. I'll try to pull mine out to share soon.

Have you ever cruised NYE before? I bet that would be a spectacular cruise to do.

Hey Geeks....cruising next Jan....how about NYE?

Noel, would you do it again next year?

Yup, Noel is right. We are booked for NYE 2008, but Paul isn't keen on the idea...he is thinking 2 cruises in one year is too much....I figure I don't have to pay for it until October and by then he'll be missing Panama Time....

I found out on Friday that they pushed back Star testing one week, which would mean we would miss it all. :sad2: I'm so frustrated. I wonder when and who I should talk to about this....I always had thought they would make the testing so I was going to just mention to the teachers after the first of the year about the trip. But now, I'm not sure what they will say/do. Maybe if I give enough notice they could schedule a make-up??
Yikes.
Lisa

I have heard no make ups, but if you are in town for at least one of the days then your child can cram and take it. I've also decided just to opt the kids out of it. It's not worth the stress.

Today I became the grandmother to the most beautiful baby girl:angel: :cloud9:

At 9:25 AM , Serenity was born weighing 8lbs 14 oz.

Kathe

So wonderful!!!

We have a new granddaughter, Molly, born a little after 7pm our time.:cutie:

Even more great news...you know I love that Molly name. :lmao:

We also have some baby news in my family. My cousin's son & girlfriend have delivered their twin girls very early at 27 weeks. Both girls are just over 2 lbs. Nothing seriously wrong with them, but they are on vents and will be in the NICU until they are 5 lbs. Their first child was 4 lbs, so this isn't an uncharter area, but nonetheless scary.

I am back to scouring ebay for goodies...at this rate I will need to ship all the girls clothes!!

Erm......Get off that EBay!!!!

So, do you have them trained, or do they have you trained to buy their products? :rotfl2: :rotfl: ;)

Your meals sound like Disney menu's.

 to you Nan, and love from accross the Atlantic!

Those are little babies. They do wonders these days with prem babies, but as you said - scary for now.

:yay: Hey all - 13 pages and since I'm not sleeping thought I'd pop in.

HAPPY B DAy to PJ (my namesake buddy).

CONGRATS ON ALL THE NEW BABIES TOO!:dance3: :flower3:

I missed page 1959 (my birthyear) but glad you made yours John. Loved the photos from the game.

I missed some great conversations, sci-fi etc. But just don't have the energy to respond. . .

Miss V - I am still hoping for you on the job scene.

Let's see - I know I'm missing some other stuff to comment on - forgive please, working too hard and not sleeping well. I know - this too shall pass! (I hate when my own words come back to haunt me).

Holly - when are you heading south? I remember driving from N.W. IN to NC with my sister in law and nieces - we drove thru KY and TN and it's a beautiful place - enjoy. Loved Kentucky Horse park (as you can expect)... Tyler is a critter fan - I'll bet he'd like that stop!

Oh, regarding the "clutter" - "clean" etc conversations I always said that to my gal pal - she would just fret and fret about cleaning - and I said NO one is every going to put on your tomb stone that you didn't pick up enough - they will say however, what a great Mother, wife, friend you are - so STOP fretting! (Plus, they have a little blue pill for those OCD folks who just cannot stop fretting). :rolleyes1 (i'm playing around here).

We are in our new office, and it's truly amazing how the energy has shifted because everything is so lovely and new. The new furniture for the "lobby" arrived yesterday, and the printers are all working nicely now. Although we've had a lot of stress - things are finally falling into place a bit.

I've been working too many hours and haven't been sleeping well, except for catch up on the weekends. Which is NOT how I want to spend my time now that the weather has broken and it's so GORGEOUS outside!

I sometimes have to "work" at balance... as I'm sure most do.

Well, I'm going to try and lie down and sleep now. Have a great day everybody.:wizard:

I will continue to keep your mom in my thoughts and prayers. She must be so scared...I can not even imagine......

I just ran to the post office to mail out some ebay items...I am hoping to list some more stuff tonight. Glad someone else wants my junk!
I'm so glad you had success getting rid of stuff on ebay. I sure love the feeling after I've left the post office and have sent packages on their way. Yippee!!!!

Trying to get caught up before work since DIS was down last night (or midnight -1am when I was finally able to try to get on).

Those Silver Labs are beautiful dogs V . . .

I never had heard of them before - I'm sure that Amy would love that color too. I am really partial to Labs/Lab mixes - I think it is a great choice!
I like the silver ones too and haven't seen many. Labs are just so gentle and good natured! :goodvibes Good luck with your choice!

We leave Saturday morning. Driving home Tuesday, which is when we'll be making a stop somewhere fun. Leaning more towards the aquarium because Tyler sees horses every week around here. I know.....nowhere the same thing.....but at his age, a horse is a horse! ;)

I was in such a hurry this morning I forgot, and now can't remember if they were yesterday or today, so forgive me if I am wrong, but

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOHN AND PJ.
