Well it is 5pm here but some of you are just beginning your day and some of you will be taking your afternoon naps!! Zzzzzzzzz.

Having salmon, new pots and veggies for tea then popping to son and daughter in law's for coffee early evening.

No big plans for us this weekend. A co-worker is having a bonfire tonight, so Tyler and I will go there for a little bit. Bad thing is that it doesn't start until 7 and he usually goes to bed at 7:30 and gets REALLY grumpy later than that, so we won't stay long. Just long enough for him to have a hot dog and a couple s'mores. :goodvibes

Tomorrow we'll go to the beach for a bit if the weather holds out. Looks like it's not going to be as warm as predicted, so we might change that plan. Maybe the local zoo instead. Nothing major.

MMMMMMM Smore's :cool1:

Yep, as someone who has 'double dipped' I can assure you....IT IS GREAT!

We too double-dipped (last Oct) and it was awesome! And this from someone who doesn't swim in the ocean and burns like bacon in the sun! Spent the days under umbrellas, reading and it was bliss!

I seem to waste so much time on Saturday afternoons looking for fun stuff for Tyler and I to do on Sundays. But here's our backup plan if the weather ends up not being warm enough for the beach: http://www.pa.msu.edu/abrams/Programs/Public.html

The kids show sounds really cute! I'm actually thinking of skipping the beach (because his dad does take him quite often anyway) and doing the planetarium. It's something Tyler's never done, but we've talked about it, and he seems really interested. :thumbsup2

Hang in there! I think showing that you are eager for a job is a plus.

We are thinking about a dog, but just can't seem to commit. We lost our Ragdoll cat to heart disease about 6 months ago. I was listening to Oprah on the radio and she was interviewing someone who said if your children want a pet, you should get them a pet. My kids have been begging for some since Kimba died. We got a baby chick from a school project, but it died within a week. I finally broke down and went for it today - we got 2 rats and 2 dragon lizards. Oh my goodness. Coming from a family with 5 girls and only 1 boy, with just had dogs and dolls. I can't believe I have rats in my house. :scared1:

But the rats are trained ones, they don't bite. And the dragons they say can live for 10-15 years, which is good as my eldest son is very anxious about having to deal with another pet dying. He was very emotional when the baby chick died.

If we run out of hot water after a couple of showers, will a new water heater fix it or is it some type of piping issue?

I can't imagine not wanting to work - if it wasn't for a company, it would be for my kids school or our church. I think it must be so hard to find meaning in life if you aren't out there, doing something. That being said, I can't wait for 15 days of laziness on DCL!!!

Oregon Pinot is the best!!! I'm thinking...maybe we should have one tasting that we try some fancy stuff (of course home made wine would be on the top of the list)? People who want to participate can bring wine from their own winery, or from some list of 98+ wines. I could bring the Omega! But obviously, it would be difficult to do this on a large scale unless people put in funds or something....just a thought. Might be too complicated

But at the end of the day, you will have some fun new car! That is good news. Hope the engine light was just broken and not the engine!
Your wine sounds lovely.

Ok, I feel stupid. But was is BBC?? Thanks! Lisa

My GK's have pet rat which also gross me out coming from a family of 5 girls. That being said I liked when I was a kid that the children's zoo in our area let us "check out" pets for a week. We have many varieties of snakes, guinea pigs etc. growing up. My parents did not particularly like animals. We never had a dog, just an outside cat and a horse that was boarded. My own kids always had dogs and cats. When our last Cocker Spaniels (Winnie and Bert) died in 2004, DH and I decided no more pets. I like to travel and DH works long hours. Maybe we will have pets again someday when he is retired.

My sister's husband is just plain lazy. He does not have to work, does not volunteer in the the schools and I haven't a clue what he does all day. My other sister is the one that makes sure Will does well in school. As you well imagine, he is not a popular member of our family.

I'm one of the ones just starting my day.

Getting ready to go to Curves then back to the de-cluttering and cleaning. Plus I have to put page kits together for a 14 hour Scrap Pink Crop next Saturday. Darrell is going to watch the Penn State came with an alumni group.

Afternoon tea sounds so nice - I wish we did that over here. I'm pretty sure we will eat out for dinner. Maybe I'll cook tomorrow :rotfl2:

I am going to get sucked in to tv this week....premiere week!

Grey's
Desperate Housewives
Dirty Sexy Money
Private Practice......

I know, I am goofy.
This is my favorite time of the year! Comes close to Christmas...well just kidding on that, but I do love seeing all the new shows.
Quiet in here....everyone must still be asleep.

Samantha is up eating Cars cereal....I am getting ready to go through the toy box and rid rid rid this house of sooo much junk!
It is more like a toy garage at our house! I did half the project last week-end, need to finish it up now.

Yum! I love Gummies. I made blue jello once and put Gummy fish in it for the kids. Gummies are fun!
One time we made a mud pie dessert with gummies...it was in a small pot (like for a plant). Put ice cream in the pot with hot fudge, oreo cookie crumbs on top to look like ground, put a real flower sticking out of the top and then gummie worms coming out from the "ground." It was really cute.
Yes, more dumpster time! :lmao:

Hopefully I will retire in 6 months then work will be sorted out for sure! ;)
You have to retire to start your RV traveling right?!
I have been having trouble sleeping as well....it really is draining.
I don't have issues staying asleep, just getting to sleep. I just lay in bed thinking of thousands of different things...

did you guys see on the main board that the 4 night wonder this week has no sea day and is visiting Castaway Cay twice!! That would be great!!!!!!!!!
I was also reading on the main board about the character breakfast changing - that the characters no longer visit the tables but do some sort of show. Anyone following that?
If you drain the water heater (after turning it off, of course) every 6 months, to clean out any debris and scale, it will last longer. Instead of buying a whole new water heater you can also replace the heating elements and/or thermostats. Depends on whether they are electric or gas water heaters.
Thanks!

Good Morning...Afternoon...DISers. Doing a drive by this morning...on our way out to Mom's house to do the final pack up and move to the storage shed.

Just wanted to let everyone know...I wrote to Mandy/UKangel who was our original champagne girl who had to cancel this cruise, but we were scheduled to do a mini meet on Nov 1 at WDW. I asked if we were still on for the meet and I heard back from her today that it's a go. I'm so happy because we clicked so well....but we're keeping in touch and doing the mini meet. YEAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! Hopefully we will get to cruise with her again in the future.

Keep up the chatting so I'll have lots of pages to read when I get home tonight.
:woohoo: :cheer2: :woohoo:

Enjoy the evening ! My cell phone has a feature that shows where it is light and dark in the world. It is fun to see where the light is traveling.

Ah, the 'old' Red Car. I rode that when I was a 'very young' child. :rotfl: It used to go from South Orange County all the way to L.A. I barely remember it. There were also a lot of other streetcars in So. California area. Long Beach had a good streetcar network. The automobile killed them off along with help from the oil companies. Southern California had oil derricks everywhere back then. Ah, such memories.

My dad was born in 1924 so he vividly remembered the Red Car. He also talked about what growing up in Los Angeles was like when where he lived in Alhambra was considered the outskirts of Los Angeles. After the Long Beach earthquake of 1933, he and his siblings went to school in tents.

Some history about the 1933 Long Beach quake:

The Long Beach earthquake of 1933 took place March 10, 1933 at 5:55 pm Pacific Time, registering 6.3 on the Richter scale and causing widespread damage to buildings throughout Southern California. The epicenter was offshore, southeast of Long Beach on the Newport-Inglewood Fault. Forty million dollars property damage resulted, and 115 lives were lost. Many of these fatalities occurred as people ran out of buildings and were hit by falling debris.

The major damage occurred in the thickly settled district from Long Beach to the industrial section south of Los Angeles, where unfavorable geological conditions (made land, water-soaked alluvium) combined with poor structural work to increase the damage. At Long Beach, buildings collapsed, tanks fell through roofs, and houses displaced on foundations. School buildings were among those structures most generally and severely damaged.

The earthquake eliminated all doubts regarding the need for earthquake resistant design for structures in California. So many school buildings were damaged that the Field Act was passed by the California State Legislature on April 10, 1933. The Field Act mandated that school buildings must be earthquake-resistant. If the earthquake had occurred during school hours, the death toll would have been much higher.

I hadn't known Mandy wasn't coming...must have been those weeks I missed on the boards. That's too bad, but great she can meet up with you all at the meet. I'm determined not to fall behind again! It does somewhat drive my DH crazy as I'm typing in bed at 11pm while he is trying to sleep. But I have found that during the week, that is the only time I can get to the boards except for the week-end when I'm trying to escape all the chores...which I guess I should go back to.

I'm really excited my sister is coming back from her sabbatical today. She had been renting a villa in Tuscany...isn't that the life??? She flies home today after being gone I think about 5-6 weeks. We are going to meet her at one of our favorite Mexican restaurant, Celia's, in Menlo Park. Can't wait to hear the stories! Lisa

Now, can someone tell me what smores are exactly? I know they are cooked marshmallows, but anything else?

I think your Curves is like Ladies Workout Express I go to. Alternate machines and recovery stations. i enjoy it, especially as it can be done with in 30 minutes!!

I like to see that picture too. It isn't at all like what I expected at all.

WOW! What a great time your sister must have had! :cloud9:

Also, when the engine lights come on it is sometimes because the gas cap wasn't put on tight enough. If there is an air leak the engine light will come on. It is considered a leak in the emissions control system. That's an easy fix. Hope it isn't something major like Catalytic converter or Oxygen sensors, or something else major. I bought a diagnostic machine for 90 bucks and can shut off the engine light myself, if it's something simple. Every so often the gas attendants here will leave the gas cap loose, so I can use the computer to shut it off. Some places charge 90 bucks just to do a reading. The machine will tell you what's wrong with the engine usually. There is a book, or a CD, with the machine that interprets the codes. Just get the codes yourself, and give them to the mechanic. Save a few $$$.

Whenever I am in Oregon, I always forget at least the first time I need gas that you can't pump your own gas. The attendants always know you are from California when you get out of the car. Vice versa you can tell if someone is from Oregon as they wait in the car for someone to pump the gas.

I always turn my gas cap to hear it click three times for the very reason you mention above. When I get my gas in Oregon, I still get out of the car to turn the gas cap. My Suburban will read the check engine light until you get more gas if the gas cap is not tight enough.

You roast marshmallows on a stick over a fire, then sandwich them between chocolate bar and graham crackers. Yum!

From what I've heard, Curves is exactly like that.
:goodvibes

Gee, I just love getting a knock at the door when I don't have all my......um.....undergarments on! :rotfl: Poor mailman! I'm still exactly as I was when I rolled out of bed this morning. Pajamas, hair standing up, etc. Well, I did brush my teeth first thing, but that's all! :rotfl2:

DH and I both type in bed. When I want to sleep, I just put on my sleep mask. DH seems to be able to sleep no matter what!!

Have a wonderful time with your sister!!
