Ok, I'm about to lose the DIS again and I STILL have 10 pages to catch up on!!

Loved the DIS meet pics! Wish we could have been there a week later...

Still thinking about a NOCAL DIS meet at our wine shop... I'll post pics soon of how BIG it is!!

I'll be heading to bed soon, the new shop is going well, but wearing me out!!

Take care everyone!

Karen

That is so funny - Cheri, Jackie and I were talking about doing the DIS meet near you - so we could shop at your SHOP!!!!:cool1:

Pirates Primer?? WHERE?
I have a friend who has put together some cookbooks. One is WINOS and the other is WINOS LOVE CHOCOLATE (or something like that--recipes that use or go well with wine and chocolate). WINOS stands for Women In Need Of Sanity. they are pretty neat. She sells them for $20 each. I need to find out if she has a website.
Jan :earsgirl:

Website about the cookbooks is:
http://www.winoshavefun.com/
I got it from her MIL today. lOOKS LIKE I WAS WRONG--$10 EACH IF YOU BUY THEM IN LOTS OF 6.
Her MIL said Bonnie is at work on a cookbook for men--GRILLING WITH BEER. Too funny. I bought one of each of the WINOS ones for shower presents for DG (Darling Girl--who married my son on SATURDAY!!) I read the forwards before gifting them. She is a pretty funny lady.

AND
:confused3 Pirate Primer????:confused3

Wait until you look at that guy's house.

I thought I was addicted to Disney - I am definitely minor league compared to this guy!

OK so now I can show these to my family and not look the only "Micky Nut" in the world. House looks like WDW after a tornado rolled thruoght. but what the heck if it makes you happy GO FOR IT

Hi everyone, hi sweetie, I see you're skulking again....

Well hopefully our little family fiasco is over for now.....This time it was not my mother, but John's grandson Tom who turned 16 last month. He somehow thinks he's now a grown adult and should be treated as such.

Tom decided that he no longer wanted to live at home. He wanted to live with us or become emancipated. So we let him sleep over one night and then called for an intervention at his house last night. We were there for almost five hours. We asked him, Tom, what would make you happy. We want you to be happy. He said no more grounding punishments and his parents spending more time (and attention) with him. His parents pointed out all the times that they went out to dinner, took hikes, played ball, played video games, etc., together. They also told him that there would be consequences, ie, he would be grounded, when he deserved it. We told him if he lived with us it would be the same way. There would always be rules and chores and responsibilities and consequences if deserved. At the end of the evening, everyone hugged and cried and he stayed home.

TEENS, I hate this age. They magnify every little thing and think that they're now adults. Tom, unlike his independent younger brother, is extremely sensitive, insecure and needs lots of attention. Despite the fact that his mom is remarried and Joe is a great dad to him, Tom still feels the loss of his own father abandoning him when he was just a baby. His mom, Sandi, has always been aware of this and has overcompensated him by getting him involved in Big Brothers/Big Sisters, boy scouts, football, band, working with our neighbor Mike and all his animals. He's always had Pops and Uncle John in his life and now Joe. It's never been enough for Tom.

He's doing well in school, so that's not an issue. He just wants more play time, no responsibilities and no consequences. Don't we all!

Anyone have any suggestions on how to deal with a troubled teen...please enlighten us. We could use the help.
:confused3 :sad2: :confused3

Hi Deb. Lovely to see you. I've missed you.:)

Sorry you have family problems from the other end of the age range too. It seems like you are all handling the situation extremely well - I am out of touch with teens at the moment - 4 years till we have teenage grandchildren( ), and I have happily forgotten my own children's teenage years. I do have friends who have their own challenges with their teens and it certainly isn't easy these days.

Hi Marilyn, got your PM, so sweet of you. I too have missed my DISing time with pals...I've been reading and keeping up. There's been a lot going on....cruise preparations, dismeets, POC 3 premiers, birthdays, anniversaries, I haven't had the time to post since everytime I log on, I've had over ten pages to read just to keep up.

Just wait another four years and you'll be going through it all again and those memories will come flashing back from when your kids went through it. I'm sure every generation it gets harder because society moves faster and faster. They have so many more stresses to deal with than we did as teens. Life was so much simplier then.

 :dance3:

Hi Deb! I'm glad to hear the problem wasn't with your mom. I was wondering, but didn't want to ask. Sorry I don't have any advice, but it sounds like you're all off to a good start. Welcome back!

Hi Holly, I've been cracking up about the clothing optional marathon that your mom took you to...how funny is she....hopefully she opted to wear clothing for the event!!!!:lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao:

LOVED Tyler's birthday party pics...despite all the problems, it looks like you pulled it all together and had a great day anyway. Thank goodness there was no rain....could you imagine all those kids running around the house!

I'm worried too about paying off my loans when I graduate from law school. 18 more classes to go (plus 3 credits of clinic) after this semester, and then I can start worrying about it. I've almost reached the maximum amount you can take out in Federal student loans, so I'll in about the worst scenario imaginable. BUT, since I'm already used to having a very low income, things will balance out. The guys at work told me I should at least be making double my current income after I pass the bar (based on what the new associates there are making), so even after factoring in my student loan payments (even if they're $800/month), I'll still be better off financially than what I am now. So it's all good! :goodvibes

(18 more classes may seem like a lot, but at least I can see light at the end of the tunnel instead of saying, "I have too much more school to even think about")

YEAHHHHHHHH for the light at the end of the tunnel.....18 more credits and counting down!!!!!!!! Too bad there's no loan repayment option for lawyers! That would be nice!!!

I wish I only had 18 more credits, but it's 18 more classes. :sad2: But I'm hoping I can do that in just over 2 years. It will go quickly!

There actually is something called Loan Repayment Assistance Program for graduates of some law schools (but not mine):

What is LRAP?
Loan repayment assistance programs (LRAPs) can
provide substantial aid to law school graduates
working in the public interest sector.
LRAPs now exist in some form at more than 50
law schools. Whether they are referred to as debt
management programs, loan forgiveness programs
or low-income protection plans, LRAPs share a
common design, offering grants or loans to
graduates to help them repay a portion of their
annual educational debt payments.
To be eligible for program benefits, a graduate
must generally be employed in a non-profit or
local, state or federal government setting and must
work in a law-related position.

Fortunately, my mom would never do the naked thing! :rotfl:

I'm happy it didn't rain as well! It was sprinkling in the morning, so I hung the pinata in the garage instead of in the back yard, but the sprinkles stopped. We all froze though! Many people wore jackets or sweatshirts.

Well, off to do a quick shower (ran like crazy at work, sweating my you know what off), then class at 6. Then out for Mexican again afterwards. Bad habit....need to stop that! I'm just so addicted to the chips & salsa! Mmmmmmm.......basket of warm tortilla chips calling my name!

I'm nearly 40 pages behind! Before I start catching up I just wanted to check in and say "hi everyone"!

The Pirates premier was lots of fun! Hopefully I'll post some pix before too long.

The DISmeet was great! It was so fun to put faces and voices with screen names. Thanks, Lisa, for making that happen!

I don't want to give too much away, but Peggy Jo was a big hit at the Billy Hill show at DL on Monday! I think Billy is IN LOVE!

I now have a favorite new nightcap--tuxedo strawberries and Banfi; and a new snack stop on the way to and from CA--Auntie Anne's for a pretzel dog!

FUN, FUN, FUN!

And...today is my birthday! Very low key day, doing laundry and getting organized. But next year...I'll be celebrating with all of you on the Magic!!!
