I am broken up all over again. Cho Seung-Hui (the killer) lives about a mile a way. He went to Westfield HS. My son texted me that the school is covered with news media and grief councelors. Fox News is at his home.

This just gets crazier.

Lisa, wow. Even more to try and cope with for you and your son (and all the families in your area). I hope the media are at least being respectful (if that is possible).

I am so sorry that your son is caught up in all of this media frenzy. The media will do virtually ANYTHING to get a story.

On top of of all of this it must be horrible for the shooters family to be subjected to all the cruel speculation.

Our church www.centrevillepres.com has had many calls today asking if the family worships with us. Many Korean families are Presbyterian. Most likely the attend KCPC.

I am on my way to buy flowers to leave on the families doorstep. How sad they must be.

I would suspect the media are behaving like circling sharks in for the kill!

What a generous and thoughtful thing to do for the family. I am sure they are in shock and full of grief for the actions of their son. People will be quick to judge and the family is in for a very rough patch.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of the victim's families including the family of the shooter. They must feel so badly and will probably questions themselves for a long time to come.

What a horrible thing to have happened.

They must be heartbroken and shocked.

I agree, a lovely gesture.

Thanks again, Noel! There are a few here that we have not heard of.

War Games and Last Starfighter are two more of my favorites. Haven't shared them with DD yet.

Karen

The is list should be sub-titled movies that suck you in. If they are on TV, we can't change the tuner. Even if we have them on tape and could watch them anytime.:happytv:

Greetings from Huntington Beach and Anaheim! I had lunch overlooking the cove in La Jolla yesterday & spent some time sitting on the beach and dabbling with my new watercolor pencils. Although the day started out overcast, it ended up being perfectly sunny on the coast. I drove the coast highway up to Huntington Beach, eating fresh strawberries and listening to Celtic Women with the moon roof open. Life, for me, can't get much better than that! I'm going to stay here 3 or 4 more days. My sister and her daughter's family are supposed to be coming to Anaheim Wed. night so I'll be able to go to DL with them Thurs., then head back to AZ Friday.

We took the train in Alaska. From Fairbanks to Denali and then from Denali to Anchorage. It was wonderful!! First class dining and comfortable seating.
We really enjoyed it!! Incredible scenery too, as one would imagine!!
Karen

That's a trip I would LOVE to do someday!

sorry Karen, you have no idea how funny that is in UK speak (one to explain onboard I think.......:scared1: :rotfl2: )

This reminds me of something that happened to my sister years ago--her college gymnastics team got to travel to Australia for 3 weeks and stayed with families along the way. At one place they were served a big meal. At one point the host asked if anyone would like any more food. Several of them replied, "Oh no, we're stuffed!" They had no idea what that term meant in Ausstralia!

I saw on the news this morning that NYC got the second most recorded rain of any day since they have been keeping track. They got 7.5" of rain and the most was in 1883 with 8".

All I could think when I heard that news was that AZ doesn't get that much rain in some YEARS! I can't imagine what that would be like to experience!

DH and youngest DD went to see that last week. I think he said it was cute and DD really liked it. I didn't really hear much about it though.

I saw Meet The Robinsons in 3D last night at the theater in DT Disney. Half-way through it started losing me (nothing bad, just kind of out there), but the message of the movie and the ending saved it for me. It was fun seeing it in 3D.

My list of oldies but goodies

Has anyone already mentioned "Babe"? I loved that one! Also "Who Killed Roger Rabbit?"

Wanted to share a funny story that may take thoughts away from today's events just for a moment and maybe put a smile on someone's face. We thought it was very clever and funny.

Our friends had been watching over our daughter's kittens and our home while we were on vacation for Spring Break. Some may have heard the story of Gnomes and having their pictures taken all around the world. Travelocity ads come to mind. Someone may have sent us a Gnome a few years back as a joke, but it does sit near our front porch. When we arrived home from our trip, we saw a note on our front door. Inside an envelope was a piece of paper with letters cut out of magazines that formed the sentence "We have your Gnome, ransom to follow"! It was late, we laughed, and didn't think anymore about it. EARLY the next morning, the doorbell rings, we open the door and our little Gnome is sitting there with an envelope attached around its neck. Inside were a bunch of photo's:

We thought it was hilarious, there are quite a few more, but you get the idea.

I LOVE a good practical joke! Once in college we moved all our roommate's furniture out onto the roof while she was on a date. She thought it was hilarious and slept out there that night.

I was pretty much unaware of the VT shootings--at least the extent of them--until I got in after the movie last night and turned on the TV. My prayers today will go out to all touched by this tragedy.

Well, it's time to strike out for the day--beach and DL, not sure in what order. Have a good one, everyone!

Boy are you ever correct!! Sunday after brunch DH and I watched at least three of the movies on my list while he was doing some work (working on a yahoo business site) and I was Dising!!

Any adds to the list?

:surfweb:

Oh Mandy, it is so frustrating. I did manage to buy a skirt which is quite nice and was in the sale, and some smarter cropped trousers, but not really what I was hoping to get. Tops, now that is another matter and I always have problems and am not really happy with any of them!! At least I won't know anyone in Lanzarote so it doesn't really matter what I look like.:rotfl:

I really must get the weight off as it will help with the clothes. We went to M&S for lunch and I had a lovely chocolate muffin. It had a runny chocolate centre!! My it was soooo good!!!

Busy washing, tidying, ironing, dusting and Dising!!!:surfweb:

Got our quote from DU for our POFQ reservation in November, so will be paying the deposit tonight. That is one thing organised - well two really with the cruise. Just the 4 nights at the end of the holiday now.

Maz, I'm sure it's only you that will think you don't look good you know! You look lovely in the photo's I've seen!:thumbsup2

Do they call it OCP? Obsessive Compulsive Planning???:lmao:

:rotfl2: :thumbsup2

I was thinking about the guy's family too. I've just seen some tape of the media helicopter hovering over their house and thought t must be so awful for them, so hard to grieve for their son amid all this.

that sounds like my perfect day!:thumbsup2

Lisa - that is an extremely thoughtful thing to do. While I cannot imagine the loss of a child, I certainly couldn't begin to imagine the heartache they will go through as well. Loss of a son and the grief from the horrific things he did.
Undoubtedly they will question themselves and probably never have all the answers.

Well, my lovely DH has just called to say he's taking me out for dinner tonight to our favourite restaurant in town.....you can see it here....http://www.theforburyhotel.co.uk/enter.html

They have wonderful cocktails too!:cool1:

ANyway, better scoot and start making myself beautiful....it takes a while!;) :thumbsup2

Enjoy your meal Mandy.

John came home from work with what looks like flu so is asleep right now!!! We fly to Lanzarote on Thursday so i hope he improves.

Lisa,

I hope your children are all able to deal with this in the best possible way for them. I hope all the media hype on site does not make it harder on them. Sorry, but I am feeling the mother bear instinct here. They are just kids. If you need any support, you have it here!

Daniel came home from school. He drives to school. He said that the media was just swarming the place. There were helicoptors. Then he could not get home because this boys house is on the way home. He had to go all the way around. I can see the helicotors over at his house.

Erin Peterson passed away today. She was the third Westfield child. They announced it on the loadspeakers at school.

My heart just goes out to the families involved in the shooting. Our prayers and warmest sympathies goes to Erin Peterson's family.

I also feel terribly sorry for the gunman's family who is left to deal with horrendous publicity and censure from the media.
