Scene-Stealing Sidekicks - September 2025 Exercise Challenge

25 minutes of treadmill walking yesterday, and for Tuesday, I volunteered for a few hours at a house build with Habitat for Humanity. - It was a lot of stop and go as far as counting exercise minutes, but there was some site clean-up and hauling heavy boards and stuff, so I'm going to estimate at 100 over the course of the day.

Evening all,

We're now drawing in to the final days of the month, and yet more colour changes to report. Congrats to ElizabethSmith who is now purple, Twilight Sparkle who is now pink and PollyannaMom and myself (clappyclaps) who have reached targets and are now green! Also big congrats to the Team as a whole as we are now pink!

Our next scene-stealing sidekicks, and I've really struggled to choose today, are Cogsworth and Lumiere from Beauty and the Beast:

Cogsworth is the Beast's majordomo (aka steward) and in charge of all servants and laws in the castle. He initially comes across as pompous, bossy and egotistical, although he's also genuinely loyal, caring and acts as a peacekeeper.

Lumiere is the castles maître'd (head waiter). While kindhearted and clever, he is often rebellious towards his master's rules and very much a showman with a flirtatious nature.

Despite their conflicting opinions and personalities, Cogsworth & Lumiere look after each other like brothers and work towards the same goals of setting up Belle and the Beast's relationships and ultimately working together to battle Gaston's men and save the castle.

In the original film, Cogsworth is voiced by David Ogden Stiers (known for M*A*S*H, The Dead Zone and Perry Mason) and Lumiere by Jerry Orbach (Baby's dad in Dirty Dancing). David Ogden Stiers initially tried to audition for Lumiere prior to being cast as Cogsworth. In the 2017 live action version, Cogsworth is voiced by the legendary Ian McKellen and Lumiere by Ewan McGregor.

Fun facts - the costume Cogsworth wears during the battle to defend the castle is a reference to Napoleon Bonaparte. And Lumiere has appeared in Ralph Breaks the Internet as an inanimate candelabra sitting on Belle's vanity. There was also a woman dressed up like a candelabra resembling Lumiere in a scene in the movie Enchanted.

I'll leave you with one of Disney's catchiest songs:

@Alicatt are you still happy to take on October?
