Well, I have now decided that it must have been kids driving around the neighborhood last night trying our various garage door openers. I also decided I wasn't the smartest heading downstairs with no mace, no phone, no protection except my 2 silly dogs who are friendly to everyone.

Weaning/bottles/college etc. I had the luxury of having both DD's at work with me until they went to preschool, so I didn't do much of a bottle with either (was able to breastfeed since they were with me all the time). I always tell my patients that the children will tend to wean when they are ready. To me there is a big difference between the bottle kids who walk around everywhere with one and those that use one as a comfort (like for naps). For most kids it takes 3 days to break the habit...whether bottles, binkies, nursing, etc. Whenever either of you is ready, it will be the right time. As far as the college thought, I am having a hard enough time with the idea that my baby starts K in the fall. I remember dropping off my first and she turned and ran to into the classroom and never looked back:sad2: as I sat there crying. I can't even imagine college drop off....esp. if they go somewhere far away.

Just be prepared that the trip can take longer than 11 hours. Freight trains take priority and the train can be delayed.

thanks, good point...I'll have to look at the timing of it all to see what will work best.

Good points. I did price it out - I think it was about $700 for the 6 of us (2 bedrooms). Would be cheaper and quicker to fly...it does sound romantic and fun but probably isn't much of either! Back to the limo bus to take us home idea!
Lisa

remember if you find that giant limo we're in with ya!:cool1: maybe there is someone who does this, ya think?

Which hotel? We walk to Redondo Beach from home.

Woody

Hey Woody, How long have you lived in that area? When I was a kid (50s and 60s) my family went to Manhattan or Hermosa for vacation every summer. We started staying at the Sea Sprite after it was built in '58. I have very fond memories of going down to the Redondo pier in those days. In the REALLY old days there was a "kiddie land" w/rides. I also fondly remember the Fish Peddler restaurant with the homemade potato chips! My parents would listen to jazz at the Lighthouse and Rumsey's jazz place there at the pier.

Oh, dear. I've been away for a few days and now I'm really, really behind. About 150 pages, I think. Did I miss anything good?

Thursday morning I was on my way out to the car in the garage to go to work. I loaded a bunch of stuff in the car because we were going camping that afternoon. Well, on my final trip out, I noticed I forgot to turn off the light, so I jump back up on the 2nd step, opened the door, turned off the light, and turned to go down the steps and to the car. Well, I guess I lost my balance or footing or whatever, but I fell onto my right side, hard, really hard. Thank goodness I didn't hit my head, I was able to stop that with my right arm. However, I did do some damage to my right ankle. I laid there for a good 20 minutes before I could even think about getting up. But I managed to get myself back into the house, the phone, and a chair. Called my husband at work and he finally got to the house about 2 hours later. Seems his boss would not let him leave until he was finished doing what he was doing. Even though she knew he had an emergency. Jeezzzz, for all she knew I could have still be laying on the garage floor. Anyway, we tossed around going to the doctor or the emergency room and finally decided we would just wrap it and try to go on with our camping plans. We made it to Moses Lake later that evening and I was hurting but not horribly. Next morning however was different. I was hurting pretty bad by that time. The next moring, Saturday, I was in horrible pain. On a scale from 1-10 it was a 10. :scared: So we decided to leave. We dropped off my parents and their RV, picked up our car and headed for the emergency room. They gave some percuset (sp?) and took some xrays. Turns out it is a severe sprain on both sides of my ankle. No break or fracture they could see. Doctor ordered me completely off of it for a week. They gave me an ace bandage, a boot, crutches, and a note for my boss. I'm sure he will be very pleased when he reads my email that I will be working from home all of next week. So, that's my sad, sad story. Enough rambling.

Did I miss anything the last 4 or 5 days?

I could picture the whole scene as you described it...very fond memories for you. I'll be thinking of this when I see it for the first time when we stay there after cruise.;)

Update on the house...

Thank you to all for the pixie dust....the house was not sold today at auction:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cool1:
We still need to wait and hear what the bank is going to do, but for right now we are set. We will head to auction on June 29th and hopefully the house will be ours:love: ! We went there today and walked around, boy has it fallen apart in the last 6 months. It needs lots of TLC now, but we are ready, willing and able!!!! I'll keep you all informed.

Yea for you!!!!

We upgrade as often as we can, but it doesn't always happen:sad2: Crazy that my girls whine (at the ages of 8 & 5) when they hear we aren't flying first class. DH just left for Georgia tonight and called to tell me he was smushed in coach between 2 large guys (on a red eye!). Glad it's not me:lmao:

DH is gold medallion and I am only silver medallion. Last week when we were flying home from Vegas, we bought uber cheap seats because it is so short and using our miles is a waste on that short of flight. Anyway, DH got upgraded due to his "status" and I did not. Nice huh! He was in first class and I was in coach. Met some really nice people who thought it was hysterical though! They actually paged DH on the plane and told him to move. He stood up and left and in about 16 seconds someone came in with his seat.

Wow Tina, that sounds horrible...but I guess you're lucky you didn't break anything. Take it easy this week and take care of yourself.

Just browse through the last couple of pages. I can't really remember what we all chatted about.

Oh, man! I swear ankle sprains are worse than broken foot bones! Something about getting up and having all the blood pound down to your foot.

Hang in there...

Carolyn

How exciting, only 5 weeks till your daughter's wedding. A very special occasion.:cloud9: The weather will be wonderful by then.:) For my son's wedding last year it took ages to find shoes that matched the outfit. I love shoes!
I love shoes too...but shoes don't love me:rolleyes: My feet are hard to fit, I have a long narrow foot which wasn't too much of a problem in my younger days, but now my toes hurt in almost any shoe (arthritis) :headache:
Weddings are so wonerful!! The next 5 weeks will be so exciting!!
You expressed it so well :goodvibes :cloud9:

I my, hope you are up and around soon. Get some rest! Lisa

a bit of gloomy weather here today. Wilson has a little league game, but we think it might be called for weather :confused3 In that case, nothing to do but stay home and watch movies all day

Good luck on that shoe shopping :goodvibes

Would love to hear about the 80th bday party, we'll have one to plan this summer for my mom.

best go make some coffee and get an idea for breakfast....

My MIL's 80th birthday party was a huge success:goodvibes It was held at my SIL's and was a surprise. We all told her it was a wedding shower for my DD (it actually WAS supposed to be a shared birthday/shower day but someone else had already planned a shower that night for my DD so we just stuck to the birthday) . My MIL took her gift for my DD over to my SIL's a week in advance and kept telling everyone all about the shower LOL. So she was expecting all of the out of town relatives and friends. etc but what a surprise for her when she walked in and we all yelled "Happy Birthday" :rotfl2:
We all helped out by bringing "potluck" and had a wonderful day together.

Sounds like a wonderful day for you all. Congrats to you MIL!!

Last night Dennis said "let's take some time off and go surprise John1. We could pull into his driveway and blow the horn!". :lmao: He said we could do it in a week - 3 days each way. :woohoo: Um, no Dennis we need to get this house ready to sell THEN we can take those spur of the moment trips!

Angie, I know a great 1/2 way stop!

Oh, so sorry about your ankle  Can't believe you stuck it out camping for most of the weekend though! The bright side of this is you should be able to get caught up on those 150 pages you missed ;)
My Freaky Night....

Why is it that strange things always happen when DH is away?:confused3 and they always happen in the middle of the night?:confused3

Last night about 1230, I noticed my dogs were walking all over me...like they were trying to wake me up. Then I realized I was hearing my garage door open :scared1: OK, I was pretty sure DH didn't :teleport: from Savannah and I know I didn't open it. I was scared, but not awake enough to really think it was happening. Went downstairs and checked and sure enough the garage door was open and the light was on (which meant that it had just opened within the past 10 minutes or so)! Shut it quickly....looked at my pathetic excuses for guard dogs...did a door and window check and then sat on the couch for a while trying to figure it out. Never did figure it out:confused3 Finally fell asleep around 3 after I was certain there was no one else in the house!!!!!

Yikes:scared1: This was Friday the 13th right:confused: You are much braver than me, I hear noises in the night and I am frozen in one spot until I figure it's been quiet long enough it must be safe:scared: A couple of months ago I was home alone and heard noises on my deck in the middle of the night. I kept listening until I was convinced someone was on my deck, so with phone in hand, ready to call 911, I finally got up the nerve to peek out the window, boy did I jump when I found myself peering straight into the eyes....of a racoon, sitting up on the wall of the deck:o

I did the Coast Starlight from LA to Portland in 1987 with a 15 yo DD and 9 yo DS. It is a beautiful ride from LA to SF. My DGF was a station master for the RR for years and so RR is dear to my heart. We could not get a sleeper as they were sold out, but we still had a great time. 27 hours. DD spent the night in the observation car playing cards with other kids, DS and I tried to sleep in the recliners. As Noel said though it is expensive.

My grandfather was lead counsel for Union Pacific Railroad for 30 years. My dad worked fixing track and loading frieght as a kid. We are a big railroad family. Love riding! Of course, cost was not an issue cause it was free!

double OUCH
(one for each side)

:lmao: We did have one drunk on our trip. They stopped at the next town after he started getting out of line with a lady passenger (no station there, they just stopped) and put him off. :thumbsup2 No bombs, loose couplings or murders though. :rotfl2:

DH had that on a plane. They arrested him when he got off the plane.
