May 10, 2008 Ship of Thieves! Stealing the Magic..AGAIN!!! Panama Canal FL to CA!!! Part 2

I quickly read the many pages when I first got up this morning, but had no time to reply!!

So, if my memory serves me well you talked about pets, first jobs and Ipods. Well, I don't have an Ipod - I don't think I would listen to it!!! Not sure I would ever be aboe to download etc either.

We don't have pets now, though we have had dogs, a Beagle (very mischievous) and a Bearded Collie (very boisterous). We have had 2 cats - Tiptoes and then Nutty. Nutty was thought to be female until (s)he went to be neutered. So the name Nutmeg changed to Nutty, which is what he was.:rotfl: He lived to be almost 15 then went out on Millennium Day and never came home. We think the fireworks that were still going on may have frightened him as he was a nervous wreck when there were any bangs. What happened then we will never know. We decided not to have any more pets. We can go and enjoy our friend's 4 cats, 3 Maine Coons and 1 honorary Maine Coon, a few times a year!

First jobs - well I think that was working in a sweet/cigarette/sandwich shop on Sundays when I was 14, but it could have been waitressing at a Restaurant where I worked for 2 years when I started work full time as a nursing cadet. We are talking ages ago!!!:rotfl:

Absolutely! Poor little guy. How awful! :sad1: When I took Tyler to the doctor when he had strep throat, there was a woman there who they sent to the E.R. for the rabies series because she found a bat in her apartment....the doc told her the rabies series has changed a bit so that it's not as bad as it used to be. However, I imagine for a 7 year old, it's still horrible. Poor guy! :sad1:

I missed the original post by disneylover - I skim read so much to get through all the pages.

I do hope the treatment has changed so it is not too horrendous for this little boy. It seems things were nasty enough for him. I will pray for him and his family.

Somehow I forgot to answer the ipod and pet questions: No ipod for me (wouldn't even know how to use one or put music on it) because I just don't listen to stuff much. As far as other electronic gadgets, just one laptop, 1 Lexmark printer that I barely use, Kodak easyshare digital camera, and a really old video camera that I barely use anymore. No pets for me. We're just not home enough.

Double Whew!! Caught up--but will I get this ready to post before the DIS goes down?
I'm home early today because we are going to pick up our new motorhome! :dance3: :cheer2: :yay: :yay: Gotta go buy sheets too, oh and an egg cooker. We are so excited. This is our retirement dream! 13 months from today we are outta here!
I am very envious! I don't think I'll ever own a motorhome, but I hope to do some traveling in one someday.

I

I like our group, we are more like the tortise group to their hare group. However, you know how the tortise and the hare story turned out!! We get to win the race as we sail first!!
:surfweb:

I agree, I like our pace much more. I don't know how one could keep up the pace, would make it very hard to get to "know" one another. I'm glad we're the way we are!!!
Yes, as others have already said, quality, not quantity!:thumbsup2

Ok - This will be my third cruise and it's my husband's and my 10th anniversary celebration. We are in our mid 50's and so if there are others out there who are like us, let me know. I am the Disney fanatic of the family - I just wish I could live there - it's the place I find my peace and my joy.
I'll be turning 59 on the cruise--baby boomers rule!!!:cool1:

Another question to see how geeky you all may be . . . How many of you have iPods, and how many in your family?

Between the four of us, we have SEVEN iPods! Four video iPods (one each) a shuffle, a nano, and a non-video iPod. I am a Mac AND iPod Geek.

(Apple TV is on order too)
I only have an iPod shuffle and I never use it. I either listen on the computer or burn CDs for the car.

Hi all...I'm spitting feathers o may I please vent?...

This is a great one! Is it in any way related to "mad as a wet hen"?

YEAH! Can't wait to start mine. I believe when Peg (TiggersPal) see's it she will be ordering one also. She did mention it at dinner last week and is willing to give it a go, though she considers herself craft challenged. Though while talking with Cheri at dinner, Peg did give here a scathingly brillient idea for something for the cruise (sorry, sworn to secrecy and as a Scorpio, I know how to keep a secret!).
Yes, I hope I can pull it off! I can see it in my mind, but making it a reality is another thing altogether. However, I do have 14 months to figure it out!;)
[QUOT
E=pahrumpgirl;17340938]Just a quick question that has been on my mind.

Just wonder how many "Parrot Heads" might be in this group?:confused3

If you have no idea what a "parrot Head" is do not worry, however you may be one before this cruise is over.

Doug[/QUOTE]
I haven't been to any concerts, but nothing sounds more like "vacation" to me than JB music!:hippie:

Question for today . . . How many of you have pets, and what kind?

No pets. Eventually I'd like to get a small dog, but I'm not home much. I work a lot, and if I'm not at work I'm usually out of town. I keep saying that by the time I'm 30 I'll slow down and get a dog, but I'm going to be 30 in 5 months, so maybe by the time I'm 35 I'll get a Boston Terrier.
I always said when I retired I'd get a dog, but I'm just not ready to get tied down yet. I love 'em, though!

Just had to post this . . . the expressions on the kid's faces just kill me. This is Sophia's BD party from last Saturday. She is the one in the black shirt with gold on it (High School Musical). The party was at a paint your own pottery store.

Boy, does this take me back to my first grade teaching days! You couldn't have gotten a better set of expressions if you'd posed them!

The kids wanted her ashes but life had been so hectic (we had the cruise in January, work crazy, etc) we couldn't get around to picking them/her up. It was so sad and somewhat humerous - every night the kids would pray that Kimba was safe and that her ashes would be home soon. And I would be like OOPS. So at night I would keep telling myself tomorrow I will for sure go back to the pet hospital and pick her up. The morning would come, dropping the kids off at school, going to work, this thing and that thing. Next thing I know it is night time again and the same gosh darn prayer. OOPS again. Felt like such a terrible mom. So anyway, we FINALLY picked her up on Thursday 2 months later and now she has a spot upstairs right in the hallway in a nook right outside the boys' rooms. The kids just love having her - it is somewhat weird. Jack wants to take her to show and tell and I think the proper answer is no.

Sorry if I offended anyone with my story. I thought I'd share it as it is - which is a bit sad, a bit funny, and maybe just a little bit weird.
Lisa
As I was reading this, I was sure you were going to say that you waited so long that the cat's ashes were disposed of, so you had to scrounge up some ashes from somewhere else so they wouldn't be devastated--and now you have to be sure they never find out the truth!

OK....to give John1 a break from coming up with a new topic, what was everybody's first job and at what age?

Me: Age 14 (1984) -- worked in the cafeteria of a tiny college serving meals to the students. It was called Nazereth College, was primarily a nursing school, and was only a mile down the road from my mom's house so I walked. It had one main building for classrooms and the cafeteria, and one dorm wing attached. Another part of my job was to serve at banquets they also held there on weekends, then clean up afterwards and do dishes.

Yeah, really exciting....I know. Just another topic starter! :thumbsup2
Besides one babysitting job, my first job was at age 18, typing tax rolls at the county courthouse in a closed up, air conditioned office that I shared with two heavy smoking women:sick: ! Just thinking about it as I'm writing makes me feel queasy.

Yes, my mother taught me good work ethics! She would tell us that these farmers would not hire children usually (and that was true) and that we were very lucky to have a job and so we had to work very hard to show appreciation for that job AND go to school and get good grades so we would not have to do this for the rest of our lives. My mother is 81 and still is very active, does her own yard work and keeps busy constantly in her house or helping my neice with her baby or doing laundry for my sister. She is really amazing.

Your mother sounds like quite a woman! I hope I can be like her when I grow up!:thumbsup2

RATS!
The board is down! Didn't make the deadline! :headache: Hope this saves till tomorrow.

Since I have sooooo many pages to catch up on, thought I'd stop and do some replys now.

Question for today . . . How many of you have pets, and what kind?
.

One very old (16-17) cat. I inhereted her from my sister when Peg moved in with a room mate who had to goldens. Acoma (my cat) loves dogs, but only up to a certain size!

Just pm'd disneycruising to sign my two oldest DD13 and DD11 up for the kids chat group and pm'd calmom to sign up for a fish group. Hope to be a little more active now that I don't have to worry about the school calendar.

I finally feel like I am really going!:yay:

Yeah! Doesn't it feel good when a plan starts to come together! ::yes::

! So, are we doing the huge group photo by the Steamboat Willie? Who's gonna' get Captain Tom and Mickey to come join us? Who do we know in a suite (CAT 1)? :confused3 :rolleyes1

We've got that photo covered....I think seaulater is taking care of that.

Last I heard one of the Cat 1's had 'regular' people in it, don't know about the other. But I though I'd read somewhere on the DIS that 'celebrity' guests don't usually get put in the Walt or Roy (unless THEY purchase it like we would) and that there are some statrooms on the ship that are the gray areas on our maps. :confused3

QOTD (question of the day) #2: My first job was working for Santa Claus!
Nice man, paid well.

Back to catching up.....

Roy and his (soon to be ex) wife were on the EB repo for a short while in 2005. They embarked on the ship in Acapulco and de-barked in Curacao. We were told that they did not stay in either of the cat 1's as they were not on the ship the entire time. Not sure who told us, not sure how reliable the source was.
They were onboard for the Panama Canal portion. On their first evening, they were introduced at the Walt Disney Theatre before the show.

I also saw them in the hallways, while going through the canal, and one day as they left the bridge with the captain (they got a private bridge tour right before our group tour began).

Bodega Bay

Ok, have awoken from my "blond moment day" (I really am a natural blond, so I can say this!!! A few white hairs have made their way into my coif lately... not ready to be white headed yet!!)

Anyhoo... I forgot that since our home in Bodega Bay is rented out, we have a web site that let's you see both the house and the view!!

Here is the URL:
http://www.vacationrentalsusa.com/PAGES/Homespages/BHHomes/memory_maker/memory_maker.html

There are two photos that are not our home in this...

Third row far left and second to last row in the middle. You can also see more of Bodega Bay by clicking on "home" at the bottom and then "activities" and then "activities links"

Sorry to have lost my mind for a bit there...

Karen

What a beautiful home! I've never been to Bodega Bay but have heard of it. Thanks for sharing!:goodvibes

Karen-very good! Thank you for helping to support my husband's paycheck...keep it up. :lmao: Actually, I think HP makes the best printers, and I'm not coming from a biased place. Even before he worked at HP, I loved their printers! :thumbsup2

Love HP printers as we have about three of them now, including the one we travel with. Met both David Packard and Bill Hewlett in my early career. Always felt like meeting David Packard was like meeting "God" in our industry.

I'd better sign off and make some dinner for my neglected family. Need to find a good movie for a family movie night, too. Maybe we'll watch Young Indiana Jones. We got the entire collection on DVD and are slowly working our way through it.

Check in tomorrow.

Youngest DD think DH looks like Harrison Ford.

Question for today . . . How many of you have pets, and what kind?

We have a dog (Labradoodle - 1/2 lab and 1/2 poodle, chocolate colored), four tropical fish, and two hermit crabs.

We had for 14 years two male Cocker Spaniels, Winston (Winnie) Churchill and Albert (Bertie) Einstein. After they passed away, we felt unable to have more pets. They were so much a part of our family. Winnie and Bert were sibs that we adopted from the same liter. We had them from the time they left their mother.

We were lucky enough to snag the Roy suite back in January. And Noel gets the Walt for this New Year's! How great is that! I was thinking maybe because it is a special cruise, and no DISer has come up to claim it (and we are all that exists right??) that perhaps some big wig has it. I had though Roy Junior was on it for the last WB? But don't' know if he stayed in the Roy suite! Lisa

I am pretty sure it was Justmestace (Stacey)who told me was near her, maybe in a cat. 3.

She really does sound incredible! I love hearing about people who are still active at that age. I think I mentioned on here before that one of the lawyers I work for is 80. Well, he also does his own yard work, and one day when he was late, another secretary commented that he must have had to shovel first. I asked him when he came in and I was amazed to hear he does his own shovelling too. He and his wife also go to the gym to work out almost every day after work. Wow!

We have a local doctor here, Dr. Walter Bortz who is about 76. Both he and his wife have competed is at least 35 Marathons inlcluding the Boston Marathon. He wrote a book called "We Live Too Short and Die to Long" and "Live to Be A 100". I have often see his wife jogging up Windy Hill when other much younger people are huffing and puffing just walking.

My friend got to go home today - her clots lessen down by 90% after the two procedures. She asked that I come over and give her the Lovenox shot (I'm a nurse). It was nice to see her at home. Thanks for all your prayers - it was a bit scary with her in ICU on basically stroke watch. Glad she got through it. :goodvibes
Lisa

I am happy to hear she is home with her family. :pixiedust:

Here's a list of our furry children:
  • BEAR - is a 6 year old corgi / golden retriever (?collie?sheltie?) mix. We found him on Petfinders.com at a little no-kill shelter up north. We were one week away from buying a pure breed corgi when we found Bear. Lucky for us and lucky for him. I've got lots and lots of Bear stories (like all his brothers and sisters had different fathers) but I've got lots of time left before the cruise to bore you with those stories.
  • A.J. - our indestructible 16 year old cat. He's the Keith Richards of the cat world. He cannot be killed by conventional means.
  • MINNIE - our newly adopted 3 year old cat. She would be extremely miffed if she found out she was named for a mouse. But she was so skinny when we adopted her (we found out later she had worms) that Skinny-Minnie just fit her nicely. She has gained at least 2 pounds she we got her on New Year's weekend.

Here's a picture of me and Bear at the dog park yesterday.

0 degree wind chill!

Aaaw, Bear is so cute!!! Please tell us some Bear stories.

We don't seem to see too many Corgis these days over here. Are they quite popular where you are?

  1. Mozart's Gran Partita
  2. Handel's Water Music
  3. Sheryl Crow: Soak up the Sun
  4. Jimmy Buffet: Margaritaville
  5. Simon & Garfunkel: 59th Street Bridge Song
  6. Crosby, Stills & Nash: Our House
  7. Paul Revere & the Raiders: Indian Reservation
  8. Beach Boys: Kokomo
  9. The Grass Roots: Let's Live for Today
  10. Ol' Man River sung by William Warfield

:rolleyes1 but ol' man river... he just keeps rollin' along....:rolleyes1

The internet is wonderful isn't it? Amazing we can all talk together, albeit at different times of our days! Yes, 4.29pm at the moment. We're watching Logan's Run on the TV. The city always reminds me of the Soarin pavilion.!!:)

Ah, it is an oldish UK film, so you may not have ever seen it. It has become one of those cult films!

Not counting one night of babysitting, my very first job wasn't until after I graduated from college (29 years ago). I was a Psychologist at a state institution for the mentally retarded. It was a horrible situation. I only lasted 9 months there. I am so glad they no longer have such places and that the wonderful people I worked with there are now in group homes.

Sorry to be such a downer answering this question. We're off to the dog park now and I'll tell a Bear story when I get back. That should be more upbeat.

:confused3

That's interesting. I never thought of that but it makes a lot of sense!

QOTD (question of the day) #2: My first job was working for Santa Claus!
Nice man, paid well.

That conjures up some interesting images--makes me think of the scenes of the North Pole from The Polar Express! Were you in toy building or gift wrapping???;)

Not a offensive story at all. Before dh and I got married we adopted a dog (our first baby) and the deal was...whoever did the breaking up, the other one got the dog. So, we always joke that we got married cuz neither of us watned to give up Sucia! ;) Anyway, long story short, after spending lots of money on meds, surgeries etc, we lost her on DH's birthday about 4 years ago (she was only 7). We had a camping trip planned for the next week and we were having such a hard time deciding what to do, because the last 2 days we were spending in one of our condos in Ocean Shores and dogs aren't allowed. She loved to camp and we felt so guilty at the thought of leaving her home. We picked up her ashes on the way, and she got to go camping with us and spend the 2 nights in the condo! Her ashes still sit in a box on our hutch.

What a wonderful story! Thanks for sharing. Lisa
