Thought about you yesterday when the Pipes and Drum Corps were playing at the Irish Festival - they were playing Scotland the Brave!!!! I remarked to Sam that they had the wrong country - a lady next to me said, why don't you think they are Irish - um, as hubby and I stared at each other - well, they are playing Scotland the Brave - she disappeared into the crowd....

It was a fun event, very local, with the big celebration raising funds for kids cancer.....

Is anyone not doing any "extras" - so no spa, no excursions? I am thinking about our budget and it seems just to go crazy when you add those things on...anyone walk away from a cruise with no bill at all? This one will be tough as our ship board credit doesn't even cover our tips for 6! I used points for our hyatt stay the night before, points for the hertz rent-a-car for ride home...need to pay for transport to the port, and might splurge on a limo...but then think I should just save the money and do a van. But then I really like a limo.

With the spa, I really wanted to try both the Rasul and the Spa Villa for couples. With the excursions, I wanted the kids to do the Dolphins and Sub ride. Argg...I think I would give up my spa so the kids can do the tours, but then I think do they really need those excursions? Being on the ship is going to be such a great vacation in itself.

I figure $100 per kid for souvenirs, knick-knacks, etc. $50 per kid arcade.

How does this compare to some of you guys (if you feel comfortable sharing)? Am I spending more, less, about the same? Having a big family really takes its toll on vacations...

Lisa

Lisa,

This is the first cruise that we are going to spend some extra money. In the past, although they were only 4-night cruise, we only spent money on the tips and that was it.

This upcoming cruise is the first one where we're be spending money beyond the tips.

I have bad news re the lei's...........the lime green are still out of stock. I have not heard back from OT, but quite a few of their colors are out of stock makes me wonder if they are not replacing them??

I had planned on buying them and handing out as my gift but not sure what to do now.

Ah, sweet idea - but what about just an assortment of colors - that would still look nice for tropical night...(I am not a FE exchangee so I can be objective :lmao: )

Just as a FYI for anyone printing and signing their cruise docs. Do not print them on both sides of the paper (duplex)

They want the docs on single sided printed pages

After all of our planes, trains and automobile routines just to get there at the Cruise Terminal....I do not want to waste any time as they reprint the docs and we re-sign them again

I hope they have improved the very early morning gatehering of we non-us residents to meet with those happy customs people....where we are ensured that our faces match the passport pictures :scared1:

By the bye I took a look at that Lowepro compudaypack yesterday and it will meet our needs....has a great handle and it seems to be well balanced

Well, I caught up with the last 2 days of posts here. No time to reply to all, just read quickly. :guilty:

The leprechauns visited us this morning. Tyler was cracking up at the green toilet water. He said, "Mom, a leprechaun peed and forgot to flush! Eeeeeeew!" So I'm sure that will be a fun topic at school today! :rotfl: And he had fun finding all the "gold" left all over. (Foil covered chocolate coins). We both wore green sparkly leprechaun hats and shamrock necklaces today. Fun! :thumbsup2

We had lots of fun at the St. Patricks Day Parade and event yesterday - lots of local cheer - a few Smithwick's - passed on the fish and chips, caught a "gold" necklace as the float passed by, was gieven a few Heiniken necklaces (they aren't Irish??) exchanged stories - watched the folks having thie heads shaved for kids cancer, made a small donation, watched to the beach to see the waves......Fun...

This is the first cruise where we are setting a firm budget - a big difference between how much trouble you can get into with a 3 day and a 15 day :rotfl:

I have set aside money for the tips. This cruise we're doing 2 excursions (though I don't find them that compelling), and that's about it.

I've budgeted for special coffee at the Cove Cafe and for the night of Shots Around the Ship.

We have never bought photos before and I highly doubt that will change this time. The only possible exception might be a photo on the night in our tuxes, though even that is doubtful.

Oh, and I have set aside money to have our laundry done on the ship. Since realizing how much time it might be to wait for a machine, etc, I decided my vacation hours were worth more.

I have already prepaid into my on board account. My goal is to have zero bills after this trip.

I will be contacting the Hyatt at MCO to see if I can prepay that as well.

Back to Lisa's original question, I still think it's possible to have great time and spend very little money on a cruise. It's all a matter of preferences.

blah, blah, blah, blah....

I still check every once in awhile . . .

I bet this was posted as I was told to keep it down while reading HP - because "Donny" was singing "Puppy Love" on TV . . .

I disliked the song when it came out back in the 70's and I really dislike it now

Donny trying to be edgy on those entertainment shows is akin to Michael Jackson acting manly...it just does not work:lmao:

No room # this morning! It seems like DCl could organize assigning rooms a better way than a little here and a little there.

Where was your parade? Sounds like a great time!

I'll talk with sis, about the morning, should be ok. how far is glendale from pasadena? not sure about the evening, I think we are going to take my A&U out to dinner that night.

About 10 to 15 mins at that time of the morn depending on where your A&U live in Pasadena.
