HEY EVERYBODY! I'm here! Don't worry, nothing has happened, everybody's fine, I just lost my internet connection for 2 whole days! I've been in contact with AT&T trying to get it straightened out. They don't know if it's the DSL service or my phone line acting up, so they don't know who to have me call. I called the DSL service number and they checked whatever they check on their end and didn't come up with anything wrong, so next step is to see if I have a dial tone when I lose DSL service and if not, then call the phone line service number. I don't have a phone because I only use cell, so I need to go buy a cheapy one just to check for a dial tone. Asked friends to borrow one to check, but everybody else I know uses only cell too.

BUT for some reason, today all the green lights were on with the modem, so I tried to log on, and got the popup boxes to install my software and modem, and redo the wireless connection, etc. Hmmm.....makes me think AT&T really did find an issue on their end and reconfigured something. Whatever....I did what was necessary and am BACK!

SO......while Tyler takes a nap, I'm off to finish the end of the last thread (part 4) and will catch up sometime today or maybe tonight. We had a blast at the rodeo yesterday, Tyler rode the mechanical bull THREE TIMES! But at $5 a ride, I had to finally cut him off. :rotfl: I didn't take my camera with us, so I had to deal with crummy pics from my cell phone, which I'll post later after catching up with you chatty folks! :goodvibes

Dear friends:

This morning I picked up all of our accumulated mail at our neighbors who had been collecting it for us and saw the letter from Carol (pahrumpgil). This is just a brief note to thank everyone for their concern.

Finding this thread was confusing until I read about the new rules. I thought my DH has posted our status in the old thread but I guess not.

To everyone who has been worried about me, I am doing well. My DD Samantha developed a blood clot in her leg and lungs due to her use of birth control pills. She had been limping thinking she had pulled a muscle, had a deep tissue massage which made things worse.

A few hours before we were to fly home she was in so much pain that we went to the local ER. The life threating clots luckily were discovered before we flew home. She spent some time in the hospital in Orlando before we were able to take her home. She is on the mend but will be on Coumadin for at least 6 months to dissolve the clots. Her visits to the doctor now only consist of a weekly meeting at the Coumadin clinic to measure her INR levels.

Right after that my SIL became ill, so I needed to go help DD with him. She also need surgery on her nose for old scar tissue so I have not been home much. DH has been traveling for work since we returned home so he has not been able to be much help with family issues.

I had asked DH to post what was going on with our family but clearly though he said he did , he must have posted in another board. Since he is in Asia, I will have to check where he posted via email. Since I thought everyone knew, I have not been checking on the board here as we canceled this cruise for family reasons. With all my travels and issues, I been checking not been checking my email so if anyone has emailed me, please give me a few days to get caught up.

To add insult to injury, my main computer crashed and I will have to wait until DH gets home to get any info from the computer. The lists I was keeping were on that computer so if you guys need any info from me, please let me know. Right now I am using my notebook computer which is my travel computer and has very little information on the drive.

Sorry to miss all of you on this special cruise.

Warm Regards,

Noel

Noel

It is good to know that you are okay, we had been worrying about you.

I'm sorry that you won't be on this cruise, but I hope that Samantha continues to recover well and that your other family issues settle down soon. :grouphug:

Yup, I fell asleep. I'm so glad you knew that I did that instead of thinking that I was ignoring you. I was trying, but I just couldn't keep my eyes open. How many of us have fallen asleep over our laptops? Probably lots of us.

AHHHH--nice warm laptop on my lap, great for keeping warm when taking a nap! (Does that help the edema or cause a problem?)

You're right Marilyn. One good thing to work on at a time. At least I have the new dresses to look forward to wearing on another cruise and it's incentive to stick with it and not give up.

The legs are not good. Very swollen, the edema is out of contol. That's additional weight gain because they're filled with fluid. I'm waiting for the boot to come.....that will get the edema under control. The wound won't go away until the edema is under control. But I have enough time to work on them before trip and get them good to go.

Keep up the good work. You are on the right track, know what to do and will do it. If you need any cheer leaders, let us know. You have been a cheer leader for so many over the past year, we are happy to do it for you too.

Jan, it's not any easier having her right in front of your face while it's happening either. My mom lived in the same town as me and had the early stages of dementia. She insisted on doing everything herself even though she was at a time where she needed the help. In her world everything was right and tight. In reality we lost the house because she couldn't manage it in the end and didn't have all the right paperwork in order for us to keep it. But in her world, all was well so she didn't need any help. She took care of everything for us. She kept driving and getting into accidents. She kept falling in the house but wouldn't use the walker because she didn't need it. She wouldn't let us do her grocery shopping for her or take her to her many doctors appointments or let us help her with her medications. We didn't fight her we just let her be and I think fortunately she passed before she got any worse mentally. Oh yeah, and then there's the exhaustion because she's in a hospital every other week or so and you have her husband to take care of because he can't take care of himself and she's not home to do it so you get him. I still have him to care for now, even after she is gone.

Your parents become your children one day.....and you worry about them and care for them whether they are in the same town or 700 miles away. I'm just saying you won't feel any differently whether they are near or far so don't beat yourself up over it thinking that it could be different if only......it would be the same no matter what.

What I have learned from all of this is that I don't have any kids to take care of me when I become the child.....that's only 20 years from now or so. I have to make sure that I can take care of me. John has his kids.....but I'm not sure they would take care of him, forget about me. I think me and John better plan on taking care of ourselves.

Bottom line: It's another kind of hard. Caring for aging parents is hard, no matter what.

Thanks for being concerned about my well-being. That is so sweet. Most of the time I am good.

God knows I am here. If I was supposed to be there or Mother was supposed to be here, then that is how it would have worked out.

I thought she was coming here, we had her on a wait-list, but when the room opened up, my brother became aware of the fact that he really wanted her in NY near him. That was an adjustment for sure!

I had changed my work schedule, prepared my friends etc, but his need was more pressing, she is in the same county where she has lived for 55 years and there are familiar people for her to see there. Here she would no know one except me and Tom.

We have two sons. I do not think daughters-in-law have the connectedness that daughters do, so we have been thinking of making our own arrangements also.

HOWEVER--our daughter-in-law works as a marketing director for an Assisted living facility!! So, if anyone can help me find the right place to live, it will be her. God is good.

Jan :earsgirl:

Let us know what they say...as we will be wanting to have wine shipped there also!

Just got off the phone with them. No problems sending ahead. :woohoo: Address the box to yourself, in care of the hotel. Address is 9300 Airport Blvd, Orlando FL 32827.

OH NOEL.....sooooooo great to finally hear from you.......sooooooo sad to hear the news that you brought. You absolutely have to take care of family first, but we'll still miss you because you have been a part of our family for so long. You will surely be missed a lot.

Glad to hear that you are on top of things and taking care of your family at such a critical time. Hope they each do well and fully recover in a timely manner.

Looking forward to sailing with you at another time in the future.

hugs and love to you and yours.

Noel, I am so pleased you posted. We were so worried about you and knew it must be something serious. I hope Samantha continues to improve and all your other troubles too.

I am so going to miss you, and you and John being our tablemates. I was looking forward to meeting you both.

All the best to you.

In the Terms and Conditions of the DCL Vacations 2007-2008 brochure (the one with the DVD inside), p56, it says:

"Each Guest may bring aboard the ship a reasonable amount of clothing and personal effects without charge, not to exceed two bags per person."

And in the information pack that we received recently, in the 'Setting Sail - Disney Magic' booklet, on p3 it says:

"Grab your suitcases (no more than two (2) per person please)."

From what others have said on the board, it would seem DCL don't enforce this. But as it is in the T&Cs, then they could at any time. Or I suppose they could start charging for any extra bags, like the airlines do.

Let's not give them any ideas! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Noel, It's good to hear from you. As you know we have been worried. I am sorry you had to cancel this trip, but as others said, family first. Glad to hear Samantha is doing better. We wish her a speedy recovery. And to the rest of you family as well.

Nan, thanks for your description of Spiderwick. I'm going to pass the info onto Tyler's dad & stepmom. Some of the things you mentioned are things we have issues about with Tyler already, so hopefully they'll refrain from taking him. Apparently he has nightmares at their house and they admit it's from things they let him watch, which makes sense because I've never heard him have a nightmare (and I'm a pretty light sleeper and wouldn't have slept through one I'm sure). So he probably better not see this. Thanks!

Noel-sorry to hear about everything going on in your family and that you will not make the cruise. I am sending pixie dust your way and will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

AN UPDATE....

Just to let everyone know who had very kind words for me about the situation with my father...

My best friend growing up (who lives in VA...) just emailed me to let me know that he would go with me to be, as he says it...."your bodyguard of sorts...." He also said that he hasn't seen my family in about 20 years or so and I mentioned that they would just probably talk about stuff that happened as we were all growing up... I told him to feel free to embarrass my siblings with any stories he may have... :rotfl:

So - so far it's good... Dad's situation hasn't changed too much... my sister hadn't heard back about treatment, but he isn't in the best of health and if they do chemo or anything I don't know how he will do...

I'm off to try and catch up on the other part of the thread... please try to not shut this one down before I get back!!!

Hey there Holly, Glad to hear you had a good time at the rodeo. Boy, Tyler is pretty daring to ride the machanical bull. Way to go Tyler:woohoo: . Bubba's was just saying yesterday how quite is was on the thread and "where's Holly been?" Nice to have you back with us.

Michelle, thanks for the tip on Smarties @ Walmart! We just got home from there, but will check next time we go. :thumbsup2

Well, it's a good thing you posted when you did or we would have sent to dogs out to find you. Can't worry about you disappearing on us now can we!

We lost our Karen and Noel......so at least we have our Holly and Tyler. It will seem strange that some in our family will be missing.....but at least not all of our family will be missing. Have I told you how happy I am that you and Tyler are able to make it on this cruise. Have I told you that I'm even happier after knowing that Karen and Noel won't be with us. I really need to see you and Tyler and your smiling faces with us. YEAH! FUN! HAPPY!

Thanks Jan.....so sweet of you to say. The legs are ok but not great. The edema is worse than the wound. I'm waiting for my boot to come.

I love Angel and I think she is getting better. John does not like her. She doesn't listen like our last dog, Gandalf, used to and she follows him all over the house whenever he gets up. She loves him. But she is still learning. She knocked over the kitty litter bag after she ate a hole in it on the bottom and now it's all over the floor. Gotta love her.

Your patience with Angel as amazing! She spills litter and you say "Gotta love her" I couldn't say that, let alone feel it. You are amazing.

How are you doing today with keeping the legs elevated and wrapped? Any trips to the pain center? Any hydrytherapy or other treatment needed?

Jan :earsgirl:

Michelle.....stand tall and proud of the woman that you have become.....own it......don't let them belittle you down to their level. You deal with mourning for your dad in whatever way it affects you and the rest of them be of no consequence.

Good Luck, chin up.....go for the gusto in life. Listen, if you're ever afraid to do something, just do it and you'll be happy that you did. It will work out for you and having a friend for support is the best way to go.
