A friend of mine is losing her battle with cancer. She has been in NIH studies (one of the benefits to living here is DC) and was told 4 years ago she had 3-6 months to live. The treatment she has been having has just now started to fail and they have found cancer in her brian, liver and several other spots.

She wrote this long e-mail to explain what she has been though in the last 4 weeks and this one paragraph just killed me and I started to cry. I wanted to share it with you.

When I asked them for a long-term prognosis, I was given the 3-6 month speech. Although we kind of expected that, it is always a blow to hear it, as you can well imagine! Although I am so very confident about where I am going after death, going thru the process will be difficult and saying good bye the hardest thing I can think of. I have asked God to keep me strong and focused on Him and so many of you are helping me do just that. Thank you so much for your calls, cards and emails.

I am so very sorry for your friend, this is what happened to my mum, god bless her...i will keep your friend in my thoughts and prayers...

By the time you get here we'll be on pg 150.

I'll be away all day tomorrow and most of the next week so can anybody with important news please pm me? :rotfl:

Gydell, hope you have a good trip now that all the turmoil has been resolved. I will surely keep you updated with a PM if anything good comes up. Enjoy and take some pics!

My goodness!! What a crazy DIS "family" we have!! I finally caught up on everyone's message (jeesh, teach me to take a day off!!). My heart goes out to so many of you dealing with personal sadness/frustration, friend's/family's situations and ... wow just so much going on!!

I am home with David today ... think he's got the flu!!

He is trying to rest up 'cuz he has a hockey game to play tomorrow, that he really does not want to miss!!

I'm going to visit the "other" threads for a few minutes ... I will be back!! ;)

:tinker: Karen

Other threads! What other threads??? :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

ok, I hate my hair. I don't know what I was thinking, I had it layered and she cut off a lot. It was all one length and almost to my waist...it is now barely below my shoulders. My hair takes a long time to grow.....:( I am going to go back and cry now.
Ohh I am soo sorry. I know how that can be I have been there before. Make sure to take your daily vitamins to add a little extra to the hair growth rate. Heck even take prenatal vitamin I was told before. Just warn the hubby beforehand and don't just stick them on the bathroom counter. :)

All caught up!

Hugs and prayers for all....and some pixie dust too!

Well, do I eat leftover chicken tonight...or pick up some pizza to have with LOST? What if I only get regular sausage instead of DOUBLE sausage? :lmao: I'll make a salad to go with it. ;) ...honest!

.

Well everybody, not sure if I can stay awake much longer. Might be headed off to sleep.

V-I'm sorry but maybe you'll grow to like it (no pun intended). Hang in there...

Ok selfish me says, oh please take it then tell them I have to have your room. Responsible me says, take care of your family the best way you can.

I wonder who was in the 1 that cancelled. Wasn't Noel on the waitlist or something?

We are lucky to be on the ship, I couldn't imagine spending that much, that's a car!

oooh I forgot you have cat 9's. Ok no more selfish talk from me. I think you should consider how much having the 1 would change your experience and if it is worth that amount.

Not having to sleep in the same bed as my child kicks me all night for 15 days, priceless.
We plan on having on having the kids in one cabin, us in the other. The benefit of having 4 boys - you have to have 2 cabins!
Calmom - I think you should keep the cat 9's that you have and with the extra money you can pay for my cat 11 and some other people's too!:rotfl: We would be very grateful to you.

STAY WITH THE 9s SO YOU CAN BE ON THE SHIP!

Thanks! I spoke to DCL, and they said I couldn't hand it over to anyone else. Said they had quite the waiting list...I told her I'd have several DODs by not taking the cabin and would occasionally just walk by with one in my hand...

I know it was the right decision. DH and I haven't done PIF yet. He has been busy and I can't seem to get him to commit yet. I don't know...I'd hate for him to go and be stressed about his job, but the option of flying back from ACA seems like a big option. Lisa

I forgot to mention that they won't let me pass it along to someone else - I said I had someone in my party, but she said they had a long list....hopefully a DIS is on it!

Linda, booking window is now 12am Eastern time. So is it, 11pm Central, 10pm Mountain, and 9pm Coastal (?),

My Calendar is in eastern time zone.

Pj

So in California is it 9 pm Friday or Saturday? Sorry.

Lisa and Mary - my thoughts are with you.

Lisa    to you, your friend, and her family.

Saturday.

Thanks! I like that time the best! Yes, Flint is a tiny bit closer than Detroit and is smaller, so it's easier to fly out of. I'll check out that flight. Sounds good! :thumbsup2

Right now the fare looks like it's 182.50 pp. If you do the 1 way car rental, no parking fees, and less $ for the gas to fill up the tank......hmmmmmm

Speaking of the men's surgery - When my dd was in kindergarden we had a puppy that we had neutered. We told dd that we didn't want any puppies. A few weeks later my dh had the surgery. My dd asked why her dd couldn't walk and he told her the truth that we were not going to have anymore children. My dd went to school and told everyone that her dad had been neutered. He was so embrassed.

This is so cute.

My DH had the snip after our youngest DD was 2. When we got our dog he reused to have him neutered. He told the vet that, there were three women in the house and one neutered male already. :lmao:
