Has anyone bought one of those memory foam mattresses? I have a Keystone Hobbi and the main bed has a 2 inch matress that's really not much. I was thinking about buying the memory foam mattress and put that on top of what I have now. I saw one at Wal-Mart for $58. If anybody has one please let me know if the 1 1/2" one is good enough or should I get the
4" model. The 4" is about double price.

Great topic..! I've been looking to replace one of the mattresses in our TT for my wife. We actually bought the one that you saw at "Stuff-Mart" - I think, is it an actual mattress, or a mattress topper..? My wife hates our mattresses, so she bought the memory foam topper (1.5) and really didnt like it - not thick enough. It was a bit bigger than than the mattress (double?), so I folded it in half (3 inch). Still didnt feel right for her, but I now use it and it works great for me. I'm looking at getting her a new "home style" RV mattress..but they are pretty expensive. I've found a memory foam with pillow top for $269 (our trailer has 2 twin beds) online at exceldistributors.com which seems somewhat reasonable. I would check the return policy first (usually fairly liberal), and then try them out to see what works for you...

BTW - is it better to go around Jax or straight thru on a Sat. afternoon..?

You can just come right thru on a Saturday. But don't do it on a weekday. Go I-295 loop on weekdays. Pretty much it's always a cluster no matter what.

Stacktester,

I got a 2" memory foam mattress topper from Overstock.com for my pop-up bunks and it made a world of difference. Before, I could not sleep through the night because I could feel the board under the standard mattress. Now, I can sleep through without waking up! :cool1:

Some are toppers; big thick ones replace the mattress. Get as much as you can afford to pay, IMO.

With the toppers, the thicker you get the better it will feel. It also seems to insulate better than a standard mattress. I leave them on full time. It takes a little more effort to squeeze the top down and latch it when closing up but no problem. When I got the electric mattress heaters to go on top of the toppers in cool weather, I thought I was in heaven.

See you in March in Loop 900 maybe?

We have the memory foam topper for our pop up. I have herniated disks in my lower back and it has made a world of difference for me while camping. I could usually only sleep one night if that without pain. Now we can go two weeks and I don't have a problem.

My husband and I love our 1.5 mattress topper. We got it at Wal-Mart. We had went to Williamsburg without one for our first trip and My Husbands back went out and it was a miserable trip. SO needless to say on our next trip he told me to go buy one. What a difference! It was great. I hope you have as much luck as we did.

We bought one through camping world, for our short queen bed, and it is terrific, we bought the kind that actually looks like a mattress. We just bought one for the cab over bunk from walmart, and that also is terrific, it does make a difference.

Just buy it. You will be soooooo glad you did!

Since RV beds are weird sizes, you can measure for what size you need and then buy your topper based on your measurements. Our pup bunks are "king" sized, but I think I bought a queen mattress topper and it works great. If you have any overhang, you can always cut it off.

If I had to choose between 1.5" vs 2", I'd pay more and get the 2" for sure. I wish mine was another .5" thick. I'm actually thinking about replacing mine and buying a thicker one at Costco.

Has anybody experimented with putting their mattress topper under vs. over their RV mattress? We've always kept it on top, but we've always used sleeping bags on top of our bunks. I think for FW, since we're going to be there for 2 weeks, we're going to splurge and use sheets! Since memory foam can get kind of sweaty for some people (like my dh), I was thinking about putting it underneath instead of on top. Anybody tried that?

Thanks,

...getting so excited about our trip in May...

I think I'll try the 1.5" from Wal-Mart first and see how it does. You see I've got the wierdest bed situation in all of camping. I have a Keystone Hobbi toy hauler and the back bed is a queen. It has a 45 degree cut off on the end so you can get in the bathroom. I was looking at the 1.5" because when I load my 4 wheelers the bed goes against the wall on hinges. I can adjust the strap that holds the bed up with no problem. Also I'm going to have to cut off the excess matress on that corner and then tuck the outer cover under the mattress. I think before I cut it though I will see how comfy it is. If I want more I can use this mattress on the fold out couch or dinette. If you look at the floorplan on the below link you'll see that bed configuration.

do yourself a favour, instead of purchasing twice. i bought 2 1/2 thick at costco for our keystone fifth, comes in a nice zippered cover which you or..... can cut and sew to profile.used it all last summer and we love it! roughly a hundred dollars or so. good luck
