Math not adding up on new 4 for 3 deal....

Okay, after waiting "patiently" for the site to come up again :surfweb:
I priced my strategy 4/7 pluss AAA.

Luvamouse, the $10 price difference at S/D is because they charge a 10/day resort fee. 9 nights at Dolphin taxes (and resort fee) included is $2133.

I just called Disney and booked WL 7 nights on the 4/7 deal (+ 1 day base ticket) total $2043.84 taxes in.
I added a 2 day room only res at the AAA rate $627
Total for all 9 nights $2,670.00. But since we are travelling in March we get the $200 GC so total price is really $2,470.00

So if I add the value of the 1 day passes ($307) to our Dolphin res the total becomes $2440.00.

Basically a tie.

Since we have stayed at the Dolphin our last 4 years we are going to give WL a try for a change :yay:

Cheers.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I've been thinking we might want to call ourselves the Mickey Math Club.

If we're a club, I guess we need a song. Maybe something like:

Mickey Math. Mickey Math.
Forever let us hold our slide rules high, high, high, high.
Come along and price a quote, the trip is never free.
Package deal, room only, travel to Disney.

You are tooooooo funny! ROFLMAO!!!:rotfl2:

So, I have a question for anyone doing the 4+3 during PEAK SEASON:

DID YOU CHECK TO SEE WHAT YOUR ROOM RATE IS?

Because, if you are going during Peak season, you can bet that you are being charged the weekend rate for all 4 of your "paying" days. I put in a bunch of different weeks, all during peak season, at different hotels, and when I did the math, it ALWAYS came out that they charged the weekend rate (which is $20/$10/$4 higher at Deluxe/Mod/Value than the weekday rate) as the room rate x 4. :teacher: This will cause variances of a few dollars if you are staying Value up to the whopping $40-something overage I'm experiencing with my Polynesian reservation. If you are doing this deal, you are definitely staying at some point on a Friday and Saturday night, which is when the rates apply.

I guess this is just the way of it, but I don't think it's right. :sad2: Guess this is where they say "Gotcha!" A few dollars here...a few dollars there...adds up!

And if you're going over Easter, there is no weekend rate! They getcha 7 days a week! Made my math a lot easier I must say...

Have to admit, it is still a big savings although there ought to have been some (microscopic print) disclaimer to that effect. "... reservations qualifying for the buy 4 get 3 offer occurring over a period of time in which one or more per night prices occur will be calculated at the rate of the highest per night applicable during the aforementioned stay. Price fluctuations of 1%-5% included at no extra charge. Site not for educational purposes but for calculating possible approximate rate of theoretical stay until final payment received at check-out."

This message represents the official view of the voices in my head.

Thanks McKiggan--

I figured there was a random $10 charge, but then I thought... why do that? And I still think, why do that? Why not just up the room charge $10 per night...hmmm.

I think it is cool that you will be trying WL for a change. :thumbsup2

Change is good.

But I'm still going back to the Poly.

Forever.

At least for now.;)

Agreed. :lmao:

I am guessing the $10 fee is separate so it is not taxed at the same rate as the room (a tax level that is set by the state or county, not by Disney). These little nuances seem silly to us, but makes sense to the suits on the other end for niggling details like that. :)

I don't like these fees either, also Dolphin/Swan charge for parking as well.

Here is what we got ...

CBR May 30-June 6
8 days/7 nights, standard room
1 day base tickets for 4 people over the age of 9 (adults)
No Trip Insurance
Cost with special package = $1156

If you factor out the ticket ($319) the room costs 837 for seven nights/eight days. If I try to book room only the cost would have been 1479 (that is what we had before the deal came out.) The cost for only 4 nights and 5 days is 844 so I am getting three nights free.

I am just a pre-school teacher but that is how I do the math:teacher:

Has anyone actually done the math on this new deal and found a discrepancy?

We have the Polynesian, Garden View booked from March 4-11 (Wed-Wed) for 3 adults, with 7 day park hoppers (no other add ons) and the total comes to $3242.44 on Disney.com. I have the reservation made already and put the deposit down.

HOWEVER, if I break down the package components seperately on Disney.com, here is what I get:

Tickets:

4 DAY Park Hopper for 3 adults: $807 total
4 Nights at Polynesian, Garden View (I put in weekend dates, since we will be going during Peak Season, and weekend rates apply, so I wanted to make sure I accounted for that increase in rate): $2340 total

TOTAL Price
when you add the 4 nights at Poly to the 4 day park hopper, remembering that the additional 3 nights and 3 days of the ticket are "supposedly" free: $3,147.00

Original Package Price quoted: $3242.22
Same components broken down: $3147.00
Difference: $95.22 OVERCHARGE on package.

What gives? :confused3 Should I call?

OK, too many pages to read through right now, but did you include the travel insurance? Mine was high too until Irealized they automatically added the travel insurance so I had it removed and the price matched the website exactly! Hope this helps and I haven't repeated what someone has already told you!

Ok, usually the Fates don't frequent the DIS boards. Suddenly I'm reading this thread and Clotho appears! Since this is a thread and Clotho's a spinner, I guess it's all right. But if Lachesis and Atropos show up, I'm going to freak out! :scared1:

McKiggan,

I think the extra $30 for WL is well worth it. It's soooooo beautiful there, the boat ride's great, and there are a zillion really fun things to do at Fort Wilderness, too. Have the best time!

Miffy, I love that you "got" my name. Not everyone does! :)

No, the travel insurance has nothing to do with it. I unchecked the box to "decline" the travel insurance. I am fully aware that they automatically include travel insurance, but for that package, it would have been $200.

Good of you Sandymandr, but we've twisted this one 17 different ways and come up with:
1) It is based on the weekend price for the 4 paid days, even though only 2 of 7 could be weekend.
2) There is still an odd and inexplicable $42 overcharge.

But as Miffy put it, welcome to the Mickey Math (Geeks) Board!:teacher:

Just an update for those that are interested in my 4/7 + AAA strategy.

I have received my confirmation emails from disney reservations. The 4/7 for the first 7 days of my trip in March are fine. But the second email for my 2 day AAA room only reservation was booked for a stay in November! :scared1:

I have corrected the reservation but it means an increase in cost from $627 to $729.

So the 4/7 + AAA strategy is $130 more expensive than staying at the Dolphin using the AAA rate.

We're still going to WL :cool1: but I thought the Board should know the prices I was quoted were wrong.

Cheers.

Wow!! Good thing you were checking, McKiggan! That wouldn't have been easy to pull off... Unfortunate that it messes with the numbers.

I tried reading this entire thread with all of the different examples but did anyone ever really figure out where the discrepancies are coming from. I am trying to price out 2 adults and 1 child (age 6) arriving on 6/22, moderate resort standard view, tickets with park hopper and water parks. This is for my sister's family, I am trying to talk her in to coming with us on a trip. She originally said they could only do 4 nights so I was wanting to show her they can do 7 for the same price.

I priced out 4 nights, 5 nights, 6 nights and 7 nights doing screen shots to show her (her DH won't believe it if it's not shown that way!), I did not change the ticket options at all for the 5, 6 and 7 day so I know it isn't that.

4 nights: $1817.92
5 nights: $1817.94
6 nights: $1818.00
7 nights: $1907.20

The 6 cents per night change between 4 and 7 nights doesn't bug me really but why is it $89.20 more for the last night? We have no extra adults in the room, not adding any other components to the package, just that extra night which should be free. Why such a big jump? That doesn't seem right!

Edited to add that this doesn't include insurance, doesn't include the dining plan and the last night that makes the difference is a Sunday night so adding Friday and Saturday (which would have the weekend surcharge) didn't make a difference but adding Sunday night did. This makes no sense to me at all!

I think (but I'm not 100% sure) that the reason your last night costs more is that the end of the 4/3 deal is the 6/27 and your final day must be 6/28--yes? Unlike other WDW ressies where you keep the deal you booked starting with the check-in date, the 4/3 deal extends only until 6/27. I've seen other posts mentioning this, but I'm not an expert, so I hope other, more knowledgeable, people will verify--or refute--my conjecture.
