For most salon/spa treatments I leave about 20%. Is the $60 a discounted price? If so leave the tip on the normal price.

Nope that's the full price we got a groupon for $25:thumbsup2, but I know to tip on the regular price just didnt' know percentage. This will be our first massage.

I would say at least 20%. A little more if they are good (DW is a massage therapist, so I am a bit biased), however it depends on the spa. If the MT is not an employee of the spa, then they are probably getting about half the fee. If that is the case, many spas will give the MT half of what they bring in. Unfortunately when it is a Groupon type coupon, that is a very small amount. The way most of those coupon sites work, from the business perspective, is that the businesses get half of the cost of the coupon. In this example the Groupon was $25, that means the spa will probably get $12.50 and the MT will get $6.25 Not all spas operate that way, but many do. Now if the MT is an employee, they might get their full amount, however as an employee that probably is not much. Remember, MT is very physical work!

If the person works out of their home (meaning they get all the money that the massage costs), I tip 10-20, at a salon or place $15 to 20. Also depends on the massage. I like deep tissue and most of the time even when I ask for it, I don't get a true deep tissue, even though that is what I asked for and paid for.

ok, heres one I go get a massage at a chiroprator. I go for massage therapy. I pay out of pocket and its for injury. Do i still tip? At first when my sister went there was never a sign , before i started going they put a sign on the back counter thats easy to miss. it says tips appreciated.

Should i be tipping if its a medical reason and a medical office not a spa?

I do give $5 but i dont ever tip the physical therapist or the chiropractor. The massage therapist is good but paying out of pocket for massage therapy $60, $45 for chiro and $10 for physical therapy. BTW the massage therapy workers do couple masages, relaxtion, reflexology and therapy massage. Insurance is excepted if it covers it.

want to hear everyones input, i know at spas tips are given

Yes, you should still tip if you receive good service. The chiropractor is a bit different, because he/she most likely set their own rates and they keep whatever is paid after expenses. For MTs, this is generally not the case. The chiropractor set the rate and the MT only gets a portion of that amount. Not sure about the PT.
