Mass Shooting at Orlando Club

I think it comes down to how much she knew about what he was up to, and the degree of her involvement. I think they're putting together the information right now to see if she should be arrested. They haven't mentioned finding his car at the scene. What if she drove him there that night? Lots more information to come I'm sure.
If she has information, there is also the possibility of her offering some truth for immunity.

A lot of people assume that, but it may not be true. There may be two or more investigations going on at the same time, or there might be a joint investigation with agencies handling the pieces they are best equipped to handle. The latter is the most likely scenario. The primary jurisdiction would be Orlando PD, but I'm sure there are a lot of other agencies -- local, state, and federal involved.

Thanks for the reply. . . that would certainly explain the leaks.

Given Daddy's stated hatred of homosexuals and admiration of the Taliban, I'd have no problem if the authorities deported him back to Afghanistan.

Seems like he'd be a lot happier there.

Hopefully the father is not also an American citizen, because if he is, and if they can't prove he somehow lied on his citizenship application (and he hasn't signed up to be an officer of a foreign military, or taken up arms against the US, etc), there's really no legal way to strip him of his citizenship and deport him.

I actually think this horrible tragedy was a "twofer" -- both a radical Islamist terrorist attack, and a hate crime against gays. As many have posted in this thread, there are numerous cases of radical Islamists targeting gays worldwide.

I definitely think it was a "two birds with one stone" sort of thing, but I also agree with this:

we shouldn't have any different response no matter what Americans they target

While it might be an indicator to ramp up security in similar locations, I do think it's important to stress that we value everyone equally.

As for the wife, if she helped him because she believed in it all too, I certainly hope she's arrested. But I'm wondering if it will come out that he had the child under some sort of threat if she tried to get away?

It's like Thanksgiving dinner. We can get into heated arguments and attack our family members, but if someone outside the family attacks someone in your family, you all stick together and show a unified front.
I don't think, we act much like a family anymore. I wish, that I didn't feel this way, but I do.

My gut instincts of how to handle the wife in this case goes against many of the principles I hold dear about our justice system. I honestly want to tear a page out of The Godfather and give her the Frank Pantangeli treatment in complete and utter secrecy and see where that ends up. I have wanted the same for the Tsarnaev widow of the Boston attacks, which I strongly suspect would have yielded fruit in that case. If these women are caught between a rock and a hard place and are going to yield continually in the wrong direction, we might want to start providing some motivation to find a way to spill what they know before other people are killed because the women don't speak up out of self interest.

Yeah, they've come from a number of sources. The only agencies I haven't seen quoted in a dumb way are Orlando PD and Orange County Sheriff's Dept. But it wouldn't surprise me if there were 8-10 agencies involved in the investigation directly to some degree.

Our people do, I think. Our politicians don't. They have learned they get more votes by acting like spoiled brats and bullies on the playground...and they are right!

Whose fault is that? Theirs for being that way, or ours for voting for them?

Has anyone heard anything about the guy who was planning to shoot up the LA pride parade?

Most stations hear are only talking about Orlando and most sites are covering the politics of it all unfortunately. Just wondering if anyone heard anything else?

In other browsings unrelated to the Pulse shootings, I came across an interesting article in an unlikely place.

This is an article in today's Wall Street Journal by Ayaan Hirsi Ali, a fellow at Harvard's Kennedy School: http://www.wsj.com/articles/islams-jihad-against-homosexuals-1465859170

It's a semi-scholarly study of Islam's harsh attitudes against gays.

As a straight man, I'm pretty ignorant of the types and scope of hatred toward gays, so I was surprised at the widespread oppression detailed in this article.

It's not only by the radical elements, but also by the laws of major Islamic countries like Saudi Arabia, Iran, Qatar, the UAE, and Afghanistan. The article states that in 40 out of 57 Muslim-majority countries, homosexuality is a crime, punishable in many cases by death! In addition to that, of course, there are the cultural pressures which are also discussed.

It's a pretty scary read.

James Wesley Howell, of Indiana, was charged with illegal possession of assault weapons and explosives -- http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/ar...ride-event-charged/ar-AAh2ZT7?ocid=spartandhp

Man, you can't even drive around with three assault weapons and 5 gallons of explosives without getting in trouble these days!

They have convened a Grand Jury to investigate the wife.

They have convened a Grand Jury to investigate the wife.
Really? WHO convened it?

If that's true, it's probably one of the worst things anyone could do -- because it's probably somebody's political stunt.

If the evidence is there to charge her with anything, law enforcement can arrest her on probable cause or go to a judge and get a warrant. There is no legitimate law enforcement need for a grand jury investigation under Florida law, and the most likely outcome would be a mess like the politicians made in Baltimore where the mayor and DA ruined the case(s) because they were desperate to indict cops (any cops) for political reasons before they had the evidence to do so.

If she's done anything criminal, let's put her under the jail -- not on a reality TV show because some political hack wanted publicity.

Federal Prosecutors.

That's one of those "federal law enforcement sources" leaks that have been driving me crazy, and there is absolutely no "new news" in the Fox News story I read. Sure wish these clowns would shut up!

But if the story's accurate, I get it. Let's wait and see.

if she knew and said nothing I hope they offer her whatever she wants to eat before a lethal injection. Knowing a possible massacre was going to happen and saying nothing puts their lives in your hands as well
