Thanks. That does clarify things.

They know it hurts us at our core, even if relatively small in scope, and they rejoice in attacking our values.

Many years ago Islamic extremist leaders called for jihad, or "holy war", against Western civilization. (We discussed this a bit on the San Bernadino thread.) Any way it happens is a victory in their eyes. And any terrorist who's successful and sacrifices himself in the name of jihad gets "supreme rewards" in heaven.

Many of the recent attacks, as some pp's have mentioned, have been by radicalized young people. We need to look at the how's and whys of this happening, here and abroad. What I am reading about this guy, so far, is that he had ties to a suicide bomber who died in 2014, which is why he was investigated the second time, and that he also may have had ties to a a local extremist leader, but it appears that information is still developing.

Really? Infrequent, lone individuals, not a world wide organization that recruits and brainwashes. It's a WORLD problem, not just here. I haven't heard much outrage on the Dis for all the gays thrown from rooftops in the Middle East the last few years, or the Christians crucified and beheaded, or the Muslims not Muslim enough. I watched the interview with the shooters ex-wife. I thought she was very well spoken and like her views on religion and life in general. I'm very glad her family 'rescued' (her word) her from an abusive situation. She seemed to stress that this was NOT a terrorist agenda, it was a mental health issue.

I watched the interview with the shooters ex-wife. I thought she was very well spoken and like her views on religion and life in general. I'm very glad her family 'rescued' (her word) her from an abusive situation. She seemed to stress that this was NOT a terrorist agenda, it was a mental health issue.

What he did was an act of terrorism. I think anyone committing terrorist acts must have mental health issues.

They started listing some of the victims and their ages. Babies really, 20, 21, 22....So sad.
