Hi There,

My family which consists of myself, my husband, and our son who will be 7 at time of sailing, are taking our first Disney cruise in February on the Disney Magic for a Marvel Day at Sea Cruise. My son has been talking about how excited he is to meet his favorite characters and can't wait to go. Like everyone, my husband and I are a little nervous at this point about taking a cruise in Feb. We aren't going to make any big decisions on it until Aug/Sept time frame. If we do decide to push our cruise back to a later date, do non-Marvel cruises still have some Marvel characters present? We are headed to WDW for my 40th later in 2021 and I am thinking of worse case, rebooking the cruise to a 4 night out of Port Canaveral on the tail end of our trip. What have people's experiences been?

I do know that any cruise we will be awesome, it is just that I asked my son the other night what is the one thing he wants to do first when the coronavirus is gone and he responded with "go on the Marvel cruise." I was expecting him to say something like go to the playground or see my friends, but he's shooting big. In the end he will be fine because really any opportunity a kid has to go on any vacation, let alone a Disney cruise is a privilege and amazing, but as his Mom, I of course just want his little dream to come true. :)

Thanks,
Kristin

They may have some of the characters show up at the kid's club, but there won't be as many as a Marvel cruise. You also won't have all the extra activities as on the Marvel cruise.

With the cruises I've been on, I've definitely seen some Marvel characters wandering the ship (like Thor or Doctor Strange) and like goodman said, there's some things going on in the kids clubs related to Marvel. The wandering Marvel characters aren't really advertised and I usually notice while I'm sitting around Vista Cafe on sea days. One consideration is that this is primarily on 7-9 night cruises rather than the 3-4 (which I haven't done many of). Like aurora said, if they are an important aspect, you should probably try to target the MDAS.

They had meet and greets for some Marvel characters (Thor, Spider-Man, captain America) on our non marvel cruise.

On the Fantasy last year, my son's had a great experience in the kids club. Dr. Strange taught them how use a sling ring to open a portal (some special effects involved) and they built paper mjolnir (spelling probably hammers) with Thor.

On Magic non-Marvel, we have seen Thor, captain america, captain marvel, Spider-Man, and I think one more I’m forgetting.

In my experience, the Wonder has a pretty good selection of Marvel character greets. Some characters, like Ironman and Groot, are only available on MDAS.

Also my experience, during MDAS “season” the Magic has no Marvel meet and greets. Last spring there were none when we went on one of the weeks that did not include any Marvel meets.

We were on the Magic for a Halloween cruise (so not during MDAS season, as it were), and there were a number of Marvel characters & activities in the kids' club, and M&Gs for Captain America & Captain Marvel. So, not a TON of Marvel stuff, but it was there.

Its all based on Contracts and who they have on board. With Marvel day at Sea, its done over the course of the performer contracts so they ensure they have the correct staffing on board.

Outside of these cruises, its hit or a miss. (Spoiler alert I guess?) There was one time they had a Spider Man and Captain America on the Dream doing meet and greets for a cruise I was on. Come to find out, they were doing training for the characters to transfer to the Magic for Marvel Day at Sea cruises on their next contract.

We had Spider-Man and captain America on our 5 night wonder cruise in February. Neither of them were listed in the navigator but were randomly out. Last year we had Spider-Man, captain America, and black widow on our 6 night wonder cruise and all 3 were listed as specific meet and greets in the navigator.
