Marriott/DVC booking question

I was speaking with a mom the other day who told me that they own Marriott TS and said they book Disney resorts 12 months out, they have done this for the last 2 years. She was raving how they loved Vero Beach and Disney, but didn't want to buy DVC because they wanted deeded lifetime and more options. I am confused as how they are booking DVC sites at 12 months out from an outside TS company? We can only book at our home resorts at 11 months. Does Disney allow through other TS a certain # of rooms for booking? Or is there some swapping network?

Thanks,

Could they maybe be booking through CRO's inventory and not the DVC member inventory? CRO retains something like 4% of the rooms at each DVC resort. Maybe the room they're able to get booked is through CRO's inventory:scratchin

Or maybe your friend can put in a request to book at 12months out but doesn't get an actual confirmation until much closer to the date she's looking for??

Otherwise, I don't get it either.

My guess is that they are putting in a request with I.I. 12 months in advance, but not getting a confirmation until later.
That would be an expensive exchange though. They would have their Marriott maintenance fees, I.I. membership fee ($79/yr), i.i. exchange fee ($121), and Disney fee if staying at WDW ($95). If they plan on going to Disney a lot, I would think a modest Disney contract would supplement their Marriott week nicely.

Thanks for the feedback. I will question her more next week into how it works. Thought it was interesting.

We have DVC points at OKW/VB & Marriott's new Surf Watch Resort on HHI just as DVC_John suggested.

Tweaking the numbers just a bit:
  • The II exch fee is now $129 (based on my last exchange booked earlier this month).
  • II offers reduced membership/renewal fees to select resort groups. My renewal rate is usually $79 for two years. I've seen other incentives for 5 year renewals, or multi-year renewals with bonus week for each deposit, etc.
  • As for MF ... if they own a lockout unit they may be using it to get "two weeks for one MF."

I would agree with dvc_john that they are possibly making the request 12 months out ... confirming at about 10 months. We own at SSR but have booked BWV 10 months out through II exchanges against a different property.

To most of the timeshare world "Disney resort" means Orlando area resort so it's possible it's not DVC. DVC does not deposit earlier than 11 months from the end of the week. And DVC does not do developer deposits.
