Hi,
Just got back from a great trip to California and Vegas which included a 7 night stay at the Marriott Desert Springs resort II. Only used 124 points for a one bedroom villa and imho it was worth everyone. The resort was similar to OKW in many respects as it was on a golf course and was spread over many acres. The unit was very similar in design to Disney's and was very clean and comfortable. A couple of nice touches were free wireless internet access and communal gas barbecue. We spent every evening on the outside patio chatting and drinking (soda of course!!) and a lot of the daytime in the nearby pool which we had pretty much to ourselves. Always a bit of a worry using points outside DVC but this one was excellent.

Glad to hear that you had a great time! I've stayed at the Desert Springs Marriott hotel and always enjoyed my time there. The only drawback, was that it was in August and boy oh boy was it hot. The weathers been a little interesting so far this summer -- alternating overcast then super hot. Did you experience the earthquake we had?? Another moovin' & groovin' time in So. Cal!!

Hi,
Nice to hear from you. Yes we did feel the earthquake, we were in Palm Springs at the time visiting a local flea market so were out in the open. The locals said they thought it was the worst one they had known in 18 years..!
I'm one of those odd people (British!!) who actually enjoy hot weather so it was heaven for me. :smooth: We did go on the Aerial Tramway into the mountains though and it was only 70 degrees up there but the air was so fresh. We really fell in love with the Palm Springs/Desert area and very sad to leave. Looking forward to returning soon.

I'm glad you had a good time! How was the weather? I've been tempted to go, but I think it might be hotter than I like in the summer.

The Marriott Palm/Desert Springs resorts are very nice, I hear. However, they have so much availability in the summer that I wouldn't be willing to trade DVC points for a summer week there. I'm not sure if II lets DVC members rent "II Getaways", but if they do, that would be the route to go for a summer Marriott Palm Springs week -- the prices are great. If not, I think II also rents Getaways to the general public for a bit more money -- I forget the name of the website, but one could ask on www.tug2.net
