Well, the media is coverin' every move of Prince William 'n Kate's weddin', it's come up that she will not partake of the obey tradition. They've decided on love, honor, comfort and keep.

I like this traditional vow:

...to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health. I will love you, cherish you and honor you till death do us part; and thereto I give you my solemn promise.

Do you have any favorites, did you do a twist on yours?

And I wonder what vows Heidi 'n Ray will exchange? :goodvibes

:lmao::lmao: Can't WAIT till August!! :lmao::lmao:

I wanted my husband to say obey and not me, just to see if anyone was paying attention. ;)

Hubby didn't like the idea. :confused3

I had to redline obey, even in 1987!!! And what I found astounding was the Minister acted like I was the first woman in the history of the world to have a problem with it.

I didn't "obey" either :lmao: That was in 1990. I told the minister that I wasn't going to "Obey" unless my husband decided to do so as well.

Add us to the list that nixed "obey". DH joked about it, but we never said it as our actual vows. That was 12 years ago this coming Sunday, lol.:goodvibes

I also nixed the 'obey.'

27 years later I still don't obey:lmao:

LOL, married 25 years. I seriously can't remember what the heck we said to each other.

Laura Ingalls Wilder nixed "obey" >100 years ago!

And I doubt very much she was the first one!

We did "love, honor, and cherish".

Although over the last 21 years, we've "remembered" various versions of the line:

Love, honor, and laugh at my jokes
Love, honor, and keep me warm
Love, honor, and walk the dog...etc.

Our vows were entirely different than the "normal" western vows. No one was obeying anyone in our vows. I'm generally more shocked when someone includes them (especially b/c those that I know that included them weren't planning to obey anyway, so why bother saying it?).

I cannot remember my exact vows.

I do, however, remember that I avoided the one with that word. ;)

I do know which reading we had though.

My husband and I had our priest strike "obey" from our vows also. He also removed the multiple references to children from the ceremony since we were already in agreement that we were not going to have any.

This was a Catholic wedding in 1997.

We did love, honor, cherish as well and this was in a very old and traditional Catholic church 12 years ago. I think the obey has been out the window for quite a while.
