Marketing attached to Halloween Candy!

I just spent the morning with my neighbor attaching her business card to all of the Halloween Candy as she wants to tell all of the people about her business. Another neighbor walked by us as we were sitting enjoying a gorgeous fall day and asked what we were doing.

She told us what a bad idea it was and that she would not be bringing her kids by her house and would be telling "ALL her friends to not stop either." We were like whatever, she markets her business to families and I agree this is a perfect captive audience opportunity!

What do you think?

Since I was just at the store, I know she spent close to $2500 on candy as she is giving out a variety of full sized bars.

So, how many business cards did you guys go through and you say you helped her attach them to ALL the candy? With $2500 worth, you both should still be attaching and probably still at it well into the night.

OK, after seeing what this person spent on candy, I know this is a joke. So I'm laughing. :lmao:

We went through a box of 500 cards as we have in the past on a weeknight had 250-300 kids come to our house. She is doing the big full sized candy bars. Not the fun bites. Each of them yesterday at Walmart was $4.97 each.

Considering a booth a trade show for a weekend can easily run that much, I think this is money well spent.

What IS the line of business, if I can ask?
I'd like to know that also.

That's ridiculous! You should easily be able to get a full sized candy for <$1. I just looked at Walmart and there's assorted full size packs where the cost/bar is ~.70. Let's even say they're $1 each. She's going to hand out 2500 candy bars?

And while it might be a tax write off, it's not like she gets reimbursed the full amount. Tax Guy (or someone else), how much would writing off $2500 benefit a company (in general)?

Families and the best way to the parents is through their kids! There are 250-500 kids that come through our neighborhood. With this being on a Friday night and gorgeous weather expected, it should be one of the biggest in a long time. Parents truck their kids in and they all ride on trailers! We hand out beer to the adults and hot cocoa to anyone who asks as we sit at the end of the driveway.

Absolutely! She is advertising. A legitimate expense in the eyes of the IRS!

So she's spending $5-$10 per child? Oh yeah that's believable. :lmao:

I think it's tacky.

$4.97 PER candy bar? After Halloween, I have some beautiful ocean front property in Arizona. It would make a great home office for her.... lets make a deal!

What is the business?
She has a new inflatable jump house business (not in a warehouse, the kind that comes to your house and sets up). There are none of those kind in our area, the closest one has a $50 trip charge. She has the room to store the deflated ones in her spare garage.

If self employed, it would reduce the self employment tax (15.3%) but they would already get half of that as a deduction, so really 7.65%.... and then the highest tax bracket for income tax (assume 15-25%). Federal only.... states will vary.

These are the 6-7 OZ full or I guess giant sized candy bars. Not the ones that come in a six or 10 pack.

Where do you live? Because I live in super expensive NY and I don't pay that for full size candy bars.
