we got it on ebay, we won't be doing this in March, don't want to have to worry about getting stuff to pack leaves more room, but can't wait to meet everyone

If you are all up to it we should plan a meet the first day on the ship

Just a heads up...

No Cat 12's left...

I smell upgrades around the 30 day mark!

Hi everyone!
We will be joining this cruise! Its our 7th Disney cruise! Our first cruise was the Millenium and we were hooked every since. My husband, Tom, my son, Thomas and his girlfriend, Caroline (by the way her first Disney Cruise) will be on the ship. We are so excited - I can't sleep. Looking forward to meeting some new friends!

We got our FE on ebay as well. Really cute in red and black. I plan to finalize and close out the list about 10 days before the sailing so it gives everyone time to finish their stuff. I am new to this as well so I think we will keep it flexible so everyone can give what they want. The main disboards have some great postings and pictures about FE exchanges. Do a search and you can see som examples. I am getting super excited!!!!

We are never lucky enough to get upgraded! What's the trick?

Not sure what the trick is. We had two Cat. 12 rooms back in May and both were upgraded to Cat. 9. I think that it depends on how full the ship is and if they need to keep selling Cat. 12 rooms. We have three Cat. 12 rooms on this cruise.

Don't forget our Facebook page:

March 6th 7 day Magic

Also I have been trying to get up a Grand Cayman tour with Native Way Water Sports that includes snorkeling at the Reef and lunch at Rum Point. Let me know if anyone is interested in this, we need 16 people for them to take us and there are seven in our group.

What excursions are everyone taking at the different ports?

Key West: Just walk around
Cozumel: Rent a vehicle or hire someone to take us to the East side of the island and shop some downtown
Grand Cayman: Snorkeling at the Reef and Rum Point (we have done this before)
Castaway Cay: Snorkeling (pretty good if you swim out a ways), eating, relaxing.

Some photos of our last trip taken by my son

Anyone else going on this one? I'm Julia and I am from New Jersey and I'll be 21 years old when this trip happens, but turn 22 year old on the cruise, hope more people are going and post on here.:goodvibes
Julia,
Can you start an area (maybe on the first page, first message) that list everyone's name, age, room (e.g. Cat. 12), maybe a photo? We did this on our last cruise and it was pretty good to see them all in one place. Below is the link to our cruise Meet page. The one that started it was the one that was able to add stuff to the page.

So, how do you request an upgrade? Or I guess how do you know if you get one....just by checking your reservation?

I think I also read somewhere that you can request one after you check in at the port...is that correct?

I don't even think we have a room number yet...what does that mean?

Can you tell I'm new to this...since I have so many questions!!:confused3

They gave us a gty room number when we booked with the travel agent. Does that mean no upgrade for us?

Christine,

You are added to the FE! Welcome :) If you have any tips on how it went well on your previous cruises, let me know. Can't believe we are under 2 months now...tick...tick..tock

On our last cruise we had 30 cabins total, and I think 40 kids? I made a LOT of stuff!!! One thing we did was have one person who was not planning to upgrade their room, keep a "room change" list on their door for the first 2 days. Everyone needed to check it before starting to deliver- so you could see that say DaddyO99 has moved from 2518 to 5122, for example. Several people upgraded at the port (I did), had pixie dust upgrades, or had a problem with the room and needed to move. We also had a spreadsheet sent out that had everyone by deck level. That was sent out several times before our "final list" about 10 days ahead. We tried to cut off the FEs about 30 days out, but did have a few latecomers. We had lots and lots of homemade, AWESOME gifts, so it was a lot of work for those folks.

One thing I did was have my gifts per cabin in a clear treat bag, then added a tie and a label with their room number, and my posting name (so you could see who it came from). That was very helpful to package by deck, and then note which rooms had changed- as I had personalized gifts for the kids inside and they weren't generic to any cabin. Because there were so many, I shipped a box to the port. The directions are on the sticky on the main page. It can't be larger than 12x12. I used an Express Mail box at the post office. Just don't send it too far ahead- a week will do, or a little less- as one of our cabins sent it farther ahead, and the room steward gave it to the cabin in her room on the sailing the week before!!!!!:scared1: Those people opened it, and kept the FE gifts inside. Mean, nasty people...as it was not addressed to them or their sailing date- but I digress...

So, how do you request an upgrade? Or I guess how do you know if you get one....just by checking your reservation?

You don't request an upgrade. If you would like one, DCL will be happy to charge you for it! :rotfl2: Sometimes people get a pixie dust random upgrade, more often from the lower categories they oversell at times, but sometimes other cabins as well. IF you get to the port when it opens, after you check in you can go to the supervisor's desk (to the right of the check in area) and inquire if there are any upgrades available. The cost depends on what category you booked and what you are moving to. It also helps if the person in front of you has vacated a room you would like! I got one on our November Eastern this way. The family before me upgraded to a suite- leaving their cat 5 room- which was the only verandah room that slept 4 available! So I took for a bargain price of $650. Had I changed my cat 10 to a verandah prior to sailing, it would have been $1500. So then, as I gave up my secret porthole room, the next person wanted an oceanview from their inside room, but there were none available. I leaned over, told them to take 5520, and the desk agent jumped on it, and told them they really wanted that room! It was only $150 from their cat 11 or 12, since the SPH is still technically an inside room. So sometimes it is really just good luck, even at the port.

We are a guarantee status room this time, so I am not expecting a room assignment until at least 30 days ahead. You will know by checking the website, suddenly you will see a room number attached to your reservation. Then you look it up and see where you landed!

Here's my FE on our 2008 Wonder cruise. You can see I am a door magnet fan!! Last trip you could hardly see the door. I need to get working on some new ones this time.

I ordered my FE from a disboards member who sells on ebay. Her posting name there is gradysmommy. She does awesome, custom work, for a great price. I had her make the FE for my parents, and she made one for a coworker on her Western last year also. When it's not in use on the ship I hang it in my craft room. My parents hang theirs in their kitchen and use it for mail, etc. I do believe there are directions on how to make your own FE in the list of things to know sticky on the main page.

Normally you will not get a room number assigned until about 30 days from our sail date, about February 5th or 8th. You can check on the Disney page and where it now says "Stateroom:Standard Inside Stateroom Category 12, #GTY" around 30 days out it will change to your assigned room number.

Then you can go here Disney Cruise Deck Plans and find out where your room is at and what type of room it is.

People in this group will start posting their room numbers as soon as they get them and then you can start checking to see if yours is assigned.

There are only 13 Cat. 12 rooms and there are a lot more people than that who have purchased a Cat. 12 room. That means that some of those people will get upgraded for sure, we can't all fit in those 13 rooms. On our last cruise they sold over 30 Car. 12 room reservations so a lot of people got upgraded. Disney will keep selling those rooms cheap if the boat is not filling up.

You can request an upgrade once you check in at the port but it will cost you extra. The price for an upgrade at the port will be cheaper than the original room cost, but there is not guarantee that there will be any rooms available.

funny thing with my dad and I, everytime we booked a inside room to try we have got upgraded, it is seeming like someone out there doesn't want us to have a inside room.:lmao:

We always book CAT 12 when we can. I have only stayed in a CAT 12 once, but that was because we booked the cruise about a week before.

Last time we were bumped to a 10. We were never lucky enough yet for a 9.

Ok, so here's probably another silly question...when you do find out your room number and look at the floorplan of the ship....how do you know what category you ended up with?? Just curious.....
We have a cat 12 room. I'm learning a lot on this board!

Next you go to this website http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/cruise-new/roomlist.cfm and look up your room number and it will tell you what category and show a review of that room.
