March 6, 2011 Mexican Riviera aboard the Wonder

What is everyone planning to do in Cabo? I was looking at what excursions to book and I was thinking we may just take the water taxi over to the beach at Cabo. I read on an old thread(2008) that you can do this on your own for about $10. Anyone have any insight on this? We are doing the Paradise Beach day in Puerto Vallarta and would like to keep the rest of our trip on a decent budget.

I didn't see anything that caught my eye Mazatlan. We are traveling with a 5 and 3 year old so we are a little limited on what we can do.

In cabo I think we may do the snorkeling and kayaking but we are not 100% sure in puerto villarta we may do an all inclusive day pass to a resort that is in walking distance from the port that has a water park

We haven't booked anything as of it we are still looking at all of our options being that we are a party of 12 with three little ones :)

I really don't know what I am doing at any of the ports! Looking at the different "Port adventures" and having a very young daughter with us, nothing really appeals to me. My wife really wants to go ziplining, and may book that at Puerto Vallarta, but I'm kind of in the mind of just getting off the boat and having a look around, then getting back on the boat! Is that not the right way to do things? Am I looking for trouble going to these cities without a plan?
We are not a hundred percent what we are going to do either. Thinking of doing one of the pirate ship adventures and/or Dolphin/Sea Lion Encounter. Two of my co-workers tell me that it is pretty safe in these ports, as long as you stay in the populated tourists areas. But they both speak "fluent" Spanish. I think if you venture out without a tour group it's best to stay in a decent size group. I fully believe in safety in numbers. I'm also waiting for some of the January and February Dis-ers to report on their experiences.

I contacted disney about the formal dining and she told me 2nd night was formal, friday night was pirate night and the last night was a semi formal
I didn't ask about fireworks but Im sure they must have them also out her on the west coast...I will call and ask today :)

You know what's funny is when I called Disney, they told me the 4th night is the pirate night (in Puerto Vallarta). And though I didn't ask about it, I'd also tend to think that the 6th night would be the semi-formal and not the last night - people are starting to pack up their bags and leave them outside their doors on the last night. I do think the 2nd night being formal sounds right, though. Anyone using the cruise as an excuse to buy new clothes? :rolleyes1

updated the list :)

I often do this on cruises just because I'm always on a budget, and excursions can add up super quick. I just went on a Western Caribbean cruise in Nov (non Disney), and of the 4 ports, I only did an excursion once. The rest of the places I was content enough to browse the shops near the ship.

Is anyone interested in horseback riding? I did this in Maz in 2006 (with Randi's Happy Horses) for $45 with my kids - I thought it was nice and well worth the price. I don't think my DH will want to do it, though (he may go off in search of surf), so just wondering if there are any others who are interested.

D'oh! I'm sorry! are you doing the fish extender thing? Let me know if I left out any info.

Hi everyone:) I was on some other post on the boards about FE's and I saw that some had rules...I was just wondering are there going to be assigned days that we deliver the FE's or are we just delivering at our own discretion and are there any other rules I should be aware of...its our first Disney Cruise so I just wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything
:yay:
TIA

Thank you Carolc for loading our stuff. I'm not really savvy about how to do this Internet discussion groups. People have all these exciting banners and such. It's amazing.

Anyway, I am also interested in fish extender rules. Although we have been on 3 cruises I've never done this.

Still looking forward to this fantastic cruise!!!!!!

Yes, usually each family either chooses or is assigned a day to deliver their gifts so the week is broken up. I know last year we ended up with so much stuff, it was crazy.

Also there should be one or two point people that have a master list with extra copies printed out. Those point people need to keep up on stateroom numbers as that will be very important for delivery and should have a cell phone available on embarkation day for anyone to contact (before sailaway) to confirm and/or change room numbers.

We probably need to decide at what point, if any, we split the group up into two. Eventually if enough families sign up, it really gets to be overwhelming trying to purchase, create, assemble, bring, etc. items for large numbers of people. I think I counted about 20 families signed up so far for our cruise. I saw on the boards that most roll calls split when they are up somewhere around 30 families and higher.

The only other thing I can think of right now is making a determination of what/how many items to include as part of your exchange. Some families do one thing for each member and some do multiple things or designate specific things for specific genders, etc. I really think it best to leave it up to the giving family to decide these things. It always seem to work out in the end and most, if not all, participants are extremely happy. It's so fun just to give and fun to see things in the FE all week.

So, let me know if there's anything I missed.

Thank you so much for the info this helped so much I was a bit confused:confused3, are we taking a consensus of what everyone wants to include ex. one per person ect or is it up to each family and they're preference ,also who is the one leading the FE's for changes and things on day of sail just in case we upgrade...TIA sorry for all the ?'s we are just so excited :woohoo:

In my opinion, it should be left up to the giving party the details of who they gift too (ie: one per stateroom, each individual or one adult gift per stateroom and individual kids gifts). By my count we are at 33 adults and 22 kids (+1 more kid if you think a DS20, and minus him from the adults) spread out over 18 staterooms. I would personally like to know fairly soon if we are splitting the list or placing a cap on new sign-ups, as right now I only have six weekends left to prepare them.

I had mentioned a couple of pages back that the cut-off should be around the first of February if everyone was in agreement.

I am also in total agreement about leaving it up to the giving family.

Last, I am willing to be one of the point people but don't want to take it away from anyone if you are feeling like leading.

I think Feb 1st is a great day for cut off that way we have a month to get everything together...
I agree with leaving it up to individual families
Will we split at 30 or less than 30...we are at 18 now...just wondering so I know how many to buy for :)
Thanks again for all the help

It's really up to what the majority want to do as far as splitting goes. My thought is that if it gets up to about 24 or more families, then we should think about splitting.

With the current 18, each family will get about 3 different sets of items per day. At 24 families split into 2 groups, then each family get at least 2 sets of items per day- which is nice.

Hopefully this all makes sense and I'm not confusing everyone.

We are good with the cut off being Feb 1st. We are doing a stateroom gift with a few different items. Do we get to pick when we can deliver? I would like to do mine the first or second day.:cool1:

Just updating our stateroom it just was just loaded on our reservation Yay!:cheer2: I also updated our excursions.
