Just booked this cruise...checking in, I know it's still early but we are excited!

Hello everyone,

I just found this thread.

This is the first cruise for my DH and myself, I really hope he likes it. My DH isn't a huge fan of water so he is a bit nervous. We have an inside stateroom because he doesn't think he could sleep knowing that if he looked up from the bed he could see water lol.

I noticed there is no roll call for this cruise....so lets get one started!

Here is a link to a google spreadsheet I made please fill in your info and if you want to participate in Fish Extender on the second sheet

https://spreadsheets.google.com/spr...TtqzmdDFBVUh3RG82Zl9JN0M5RlVTbkJrM2c&hl=en_US

let me know if i should add any columns or info

also a third sheet noting any excursions planned in case we want to meet up...

Wow, there are sooo few people here!!! We are booking this cruise tomorrow, it will be our first cruise, although we are very well seasoned Disneyland and Disneyworld travelers! I am super excited for a cruise. It will be me and the hubby, as well as my 2 year old little boy and my 5 year old little girl.

Jessica - thanks for getting a role call going! I am really hoping that more folks will join us. I am super excited about doing a fish extender exchange! :)

Hi to you too Kamik!

Are we the only three left going on this trip? Perhaps we should start a new thread. Since the first 5 pages of this one was started by people who aren't going?

yes! this is a slow thread..i cancelled the hawaii cruise and transfered it to this sailing, and that chat thread is on 200 pages...but it was a lot to keep up with! happy to see some new cruisers for this sailing! I see the prices went up a few hundred for this and all other sailings last week..makes me glad i transferred in time... anyone ever been on the western? I have only done 4 day bahamas last december...castaway cay was very cold in the 60's and windy, nobody in water, but we did lay out on beach in our sweatshirts.... it was a fluke cold snap though.. excited to be there when the weather should be better! never been to mexico, the water looks gorgeous, our main goal this trip is beach time, which we have never really focused on on our vacations, it is usually theme parks, museums and other go go go things.....

I filled out the roll call thing, but I'm not sure what a fish extender is. Someone want to clue me in?

i am trying to copy and paste the big fish extender thread but its not working.... best advice is to search this forum for fish extender and you will get lots of hits!

best explanation is it is a gift exchange...... if you sign up then you will deliver presents to each of the rooms that sign up, as well as have gifts delivered to you....usually small things that might be used while sailing, candy, or other small tokens. We have done this on our one other cruise and there were 100 rooms signed up, but that cruise was heavy on the disboard members....probably except far fewer on this sailing.... you also dont have to do it at all, but you will see them outside people's doors on the sailings. I will post a pic of mine from our last cruise when I get home from work (they block photobucket)... there is also a ebay member that makes them for people, or you can sew one, or get creative, mine was just felt bags sewn together with iron on transfers, very cheap.
Any other questions, feel free to ask!!!!

here is the official fish extender thread description:::: I dont know why but the pics didnt transfer... any new cruisers check out the sticky DIS DCL FAQ on the top of the cruise board thread, very useful info
So just what exactly is a “fish” and just why does it need “extending”? Well… The “fish” is a combination wall decoration/ornament and message clip that is attached to the wall outside every cabin on the Magic & Wonder. The CMs (that’s “Cast Members” for the newbies) use them to leave messages, official forms or invitations for the occupants of the cabin as needed. It’s kind of like a glorified fridge-magnet and it looks like this: (click on the image to enlarge)

A “Fish Extender” is any thing that you care to hang on the fish. Literally anything will qualify, but in general, they are usually some type pocket organizer similar to a shoe caddy or mail organizer. They can be as simple as a canvass bag or as complex as your imagination cares to stretch. Here are a couple from our last cruise: (click to enlarge)

We’re are not very good with a needle and thread, so we engineered ours out of a couple of small cotton bags, a Disney themed bandana and some chain from a light fixture and ended up with this variation on the idea: (click to enlarge)

So, what’s it for? Well… It’s become a kind of “Secret Santa” game played by the folks who roam the DIS Boards. The idea is that every DIS Member who is on the same cruise will go around the ship and leave a little “nick-nack” or “whats-it” in the pouches for the other members that are playing along. The generally agreed rules are that you give out gifts to each participant once per cruise, and that the gifts should be very inexpensive trinkets that either fit a cruise or holiday theme and/or show off a little taste of who you are or the place that you call home. Here’s a link to a continuing thread on the boards that discusses the subject at length:

Hi to everyone from a cold and blustery North West England.:thumbsup2

My DW ( me - Steve 49 and DW - Sue 47) and I will be on this cruise in March next year .We did the Western in '09 and loved it , especially Key West and Grand Cayman . Cozumel was a bit of a dump so we may just stay on board that day .

We did the Eastern last year . Enjoyed the Islands but I personally was a little bored with the extra sea day .I know this is definitely a personal preference thing !

Looking forward to being back in the US in 12 days for some more sun in Orlando and and hopefully some time to work my golf swing . No theme parks for the first time in 12 years . That will be strange

Best wishes to all fellow cruisers.
