Marathon Weekend 2027

SAFD Running my usual five days a week getting ready for the Springtime Surprise challenge which will actually be a set of slow runs as I’ll be mid taper for the Jim Thorpe marathon the following week, marathon #20 and hopefully an all in pr/bq attempt. Still debating back to Niagara Falls over the summer for either a 50k or 50 miler but leaning towards probably not. After that wine and dine and MW are all that’s on my calendar.

Jim Thorpe looks intriguing, that's not too far from us. I like the comment on the website about the elevation on the maps being wrong. I would have thought there would be a lot of elevation given the location in the mountains, but that looks like a nice race - I might think about the half.

Other ones we may consider are the Kutztown Fools Run (10 mile) at end of March, the Dumb Dutchman half in June, which is very flat and close to home, I set my PR there last year. I like the idea of those types of small races that we can decide to do up to the day of and just show up.

SAFD: My POT has now expired so have had my eyes on a couple different options. Unfortunately I just don't think I will be ready to go for a Corral B POT again by the end of spring, so will see how it goes. If I feel comfortable I can get into the "C" range I'll pick one that works around my DS' lacrosse schedule so I have something to use. Otherwise I will just continue to build and find a race in the fall to get a POT back for '28.

SAFD: I'm headed down for PW, if that counts as "spring" (it's not up here until mid-April imo) but other than that, there is nothing on my calendar. And there likely won't be. I'm OK with that for now as I have enough other stuff going on, and some other goals to work on before I circle back to running.

SAFD: I am doing the SS 10-miler and the Dollywood Butterfly Challenge the weekend after (5K/10K on Sat and half on Sunday). I am veryyy nervous about it because the elevation is A LOT. I am also looking for a local flat race (10-miler or half) to try my hand at getting Dopey POT but haven’t committed to anything yet. And also not confident I can get it anyway.

SAFD: Great to read about people’s plans and hear about both runDisney and other interesting/popular runs!

I’ve settled into what I call “speedy spring” where I try to improve my 10 mile and 10k times, and then ramp up for fall marathon/MW. This year I’m running the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler in April, then NYC marathon in the fall and then training through the holidays for Goofy or Dopey.

I’ve signed up for the Great Saunter in NYC too.

SAFD: First race is the Shamrock Shuffle 8k in the Chicago loop. Never done it before so looking forward to it. Then the Chi-town half marathon the day before Easter. It’s along Lake Michigan and gets good reviews. Then the10k SS, though I’m always checking runDis Alerts to try and get into another race. Worked for the Wine & Dine HF. My wife and I are doing the Soldier Field 10 miler again with some friends. Then it the BOA Chicago HF in June. We didn’t get into the Chicago marathon so we picked the Richmond marathon in November to do as our first marathon. Can’t do Wine & Dine this year and are on the fence about MW races because we’ll be Disney World until Christmas Eve. We both want to do a race through MK so PW next year is looking good.

SAFD: The only thing I have planned is the Gate River Run next month. After that I want to see if I can work some strength training into my schedule. It’s hard to get my mind focused around other things other than getting the mileage in. But if I can get a good pattern going then I can hopefully work more (any) strength training into next Fall’s marathon training.

SAFD: Training this year for a Bunny Hop 5k, SS challenge, Lake Hartwell Dam Run 4k (still sad that we can’t have the 10K because of Dam work!), Peach Tree Road Race 10K, W&D 5k + Challenge. Maybe not ATL 10 mi and Thanksgiving Half this year. We will see what happens. Mostly just training to stay active and healthy!

SAFD: I have Goldy's Run 10 miler which finishes inside the U of MN's football stadium, pretty cool. That is where I got my last POT, the course is a hair short in my experience. At least, pretty sure my Garmin said 10.01 miles and I do not run tangents well  My current POT (2024) will take me through another Marathon Weekend but I'm anxious to get a newer one. Not sure if I have it in me as I have been really lazy since DL, so we'll see. Need to see how my hip holds up when adding back speed.

SAFD: my answer is nothing. I did eye a 10k at the end of March but I am focused on knee injections in both knees to happen soon. I think long term those are important. Hoping to get them in early March so that 10k might not be great. It’s so nice to just be running to run. I switched my schedule from lifting MWF and running TTS to running MWF and lifting TTS. It’s working out well for now. Will have to switch back after Aug, but for now I don’t need a long run on Saturday.

And just because I finished the taxes today. Now I have to get mom’s ready and in March up to Ohio to do FIL’s taxes.

SAFD: No real race plans this spring. I’m sure I’ll do a few local races before the season comes to a close in March. After that, it’s some dive travel followed by base maintenance and a cycling trip in Kyoto until training for my fall half-distance tri kicks off.

Goldy 2024 is my 10 Mile PR; my watch measured it 10.07, which is a bit under my average course deviation.
