Marathon Weekend 2026

Congrats everyone!! Love reading your stories. After last year I was like I do not want to do dopey again for a very long time... after sitting this one out... Goofy sounds like a fun challenge...lol... rundisney fomo is real. Great job again. Keep the stories coming.
Goofy was a nice balance. I was expecting Dopey FOMO this weekend but never experienced it. Actually going to make my 2027 decision tougher.

I agree with this. Prior to this year's Dopey, I had done Goofy for the past 3 and still think it's my favorite. I don't love the 5-K and the extra 2 wake ups really do add up. Of course since Dopey didn't go well this year I have already asked the charity I run through for a Dopey bib next year, so I'm not even following my own advice!

My race report:
I had a really good half marathon and probably did not pace myself as much as I should have to have more left in the tank for Sunday. Spending a number of hours in Hollywood Studios afterward and standing in a long line because tower of terror lost one of the elevators probably did not help….
I use the same alarm on Sunday morning, but with the race starting earlier and a delay at the gear check truck, I did not see any of y’all, but it was nice to have a shorter wait in the crowd. I had a short interview by Riley and was the last person From corral F to cross the start line.
The first half of the marathon went fairly well for me and it was so great to see @The Expert and others (oh, that miniature can of Coke was perfect at that point of the race, keeping in mind that was the first cola I have had in five years).
I walked with for a while with @Herding_Cats and then headed on off with the goal of riding Everest. When I got to Everest, the standby line was right at the time buffer to the balloon ladies, which is what I got for doing so many photos along the Star Wars part of the course.
I am a couple of other people standing there decided it just wasn’t worth the risk of getting swept so I pressed forward with the goal of catching up with a friend‘s wife, who by that time had gotten ahead of me. I caught up with her as we were getting on Western Way and she was not doing well at all. I stayed with her and at the end of Western Way had her checked by medical. She kept telling me to go on, but I wasn’t gonna leave her there after five or 10 minutes. She decided she could finish and we headed off to blizzard Beach. Going past One of the tables in blizzard beach I heard someone say “I heard they were cutting them off but they keep coming in here”, which was my first indication of the course getting cut. And then as we were leaving blizzard beach people started getting alerts and wondering what they were going to do. I informed my friends wife and the people right around us that we were grandfathered in we were already on our way back out and they weren’t gonna do anything to us. And as others have noted, the balloon ladies held up for a bit.
We pressed on at the slowest pace I’ve ever done in a race, but we were going to make it. @Stitch&Co. Joined up with us in Epcot and is actually in some of my finish line pictures. We finished about 20 minutes ahead of the balloon ladies at that time there were no issues with getting our hats or challenge metal and I headed back to the resort for a long soak in the tub and a nap.
With Everest being my “white whale”, I may come back next year and do only the marathon so that I am moving fast enough to have plenty of time for Everest. Plus, I now have a proof of time that should move me up a couple of corrals and add buffer. At least that is the thought as of this morning….
I am now about to head to Epcot for my GoG ride and then to meet up with you guys.

Pardon any bizarre capitalization due to voice to text on this posting.

Thank you to all of you for a great week. I really appreciate all of you and consider you my friends. It was so nice to see you in the mornings and at the meetup. Im sorry you had to see me, though thankfully most times it was dark. :)

I hope you call take great pics at the parks and celebrate what you accomplished. Some were hurt and in pain but know that completing the races is just a tiny part of what you accomplished in training and in months before. A medal is not enough to represent what you did and you should be proud.

I am off to rest my feet at some random hotel and then spend a couple of days at Universal before I fly back to Houston. Don't hesitate to contact me if you are ever there and want a tour pf NASA's Mission Control. If anyone has an issue with their coin (like magnets are loose, etc) then let me know and I can get you a fixed one.

I almost made my goal of personal worst marathon time but came in about 20 minutes faster. The first 4 miles were brutal as I couldn't keep my heart rate down given the humidity. Finally found a rhythm at about mile 4. My son took off and finished well under 4 hours. Got to see home leaving AK as I was coming in. Got to Everest right at 7:30 and rode. The poor women in front of me said she thought she broke her foot.

I want to thank the 4:30 pace group which help get from AK to HS. Overall great race. Also didn't feel any fomo for doing goofy over dopey, although I'm pretty sure I'm in for dopey next year with a friend that has wanted to do it for a while.

See everyone in Mexico in a couple of hours.

Checking out of Saratoga Springs and about to head back home to Houston area. I think going home from WDW is always harder after MW. But looking forward to Disneyland HM weekend in a few weeks and then Princess Weekend.

It was nice seeing familiar faces and meeting new people. This group is awesome.

Z-Knight, thank you again for this years coin. Such a great token of the weekend. My wife was even checking it out and saying how cool it was.

Just a heads up, if anyone is going to MK for medal pics, apparently Disney took over the right side hub grass for private photo sessions. Left side hub grass is open for people to use and there is a big line into it.

I got some medal pics in front of the castle with one of the Photo Pass photographers and he did an awesome job. I felt bad because he took so many pics and had me do different poses that I held up the line for a good 10 minutes. They turned out awesome.
