My race report:
I had a really good half marathon and probably did not pace myself as much as I should have to have more left in the tank for Sunday. Spending a number of hours in Hollywood Studios afterward and standing in a long line because tower of terror lost one of the elevators probably did not help….
I use the same alarm on Sunday morning, but with the race starting earlier and a delay at the gear check truck, I did not see any of y’all, but it was nice to have a shorter wait in the crowd. I had a short interview by Riley and was the last person From corral F to cross the start line.
The first half of the marathon went fairly well for me and it was so great to see
@The Expert and others (oh, that miniature can of Coke was perfect at that point of the race, keeping in mind that was the first cola I have had in five years).
I walked with for a while with
@Herding_Cats and then headed on off with the goal of riding Everest. When I got to Everest, the standby line was right at the time buffer to the balloon ladies, which is what I got for doing so many photos along the Star Wars part of the course.
I am a couple of other people standing there decided it just wasn’t worth the risk of getting swept so I pressed forward with the goal of catching up with a friend‘s wife, who by that time had gotten ahead of me. I caught up with her as we were getting on Western Way and she was not doing well at all. I stayed with her and at the end of Western Way had her checked by medical. She kept telling me to go on, but I wasn’t gonna leave her there after five or 10 minutes. She decided she could finish and we headed off to blizzard Beach. Going past One of the tables in blizzard beach I heard someone say “I heard they were cutting them off but they keep coming in here”, which was my first indication of the course getting cut. And then as we were leaving blizzard beach people started getting alerts and wondering what they were going to do. I informed my friends wife and the people right around us that we were grandfathered in we were already on our way back out and they weren’t gonna do anything to us. And as others have noted, the balloon ladies held up for a bit.
We pressed on at the slowest pace I’ve ever done in a race, but we were going to make it.
@Stitch&Co. Joined up with us in Epcot and is actually in some of my finish line pictures. We finished about 20 minutes ahead of the balloon ladies at that time there were no issues with getting our hats or challenge metal and I headed back to the resort for a long soak in the tub and a nap.
With Everest being my “white whale”, I may come back next year and do only the marathon so that I am moving fast enough to have plenty of time for Everest. Plus, I now have a proof of time that should move me up a couple of corrals and add buffer. At least that is the thought as of this morning….
I am now about to head to Epcot for my GoG ride and then to meet up with you guys.
