Marathon Weekend 2025

I'm sorry. Wunderground is showing the 10th and the 11th with lows of 36 and 35?!

Well it was 50 during my 4 miles today and I thought I was going to melt! I am going to
have to disagree with Dr. Evil on the cold!

A bit nippy, to be sure. But if it was dry/low humidity, I wouldn't mind. Honestly, I'd rather have 35 and low humidity than 55 and higher humidity--that always makes me feel colder than I think I should be.
More like 35 and high humidity. Welcome to Florida!

Not to one-up, but Weather Channel’s got 33° for the half. You KNOW the feels like with that will easily be 20s. We’ve still got two weeks for change though…

But I’m currently putting cheap knit gloves (I’m out of throwaway gloves), neck gaiters that go with my costume, and fresh toe warmers in my Amazon cart. I’m trying to decide whether to also order a $14 hoodie in the right color for my costume, or just stick with a neutral old fleece jacket that’s been in my throwaway stash for years. I’m leaning toward the new hoodie because if it really is that cold, I may not toss it at all, or may remove it for a bit but want o keep it to put back on after finishing - and a hoodie will tie around my waist much better than the fleece jacket. Though who am I kidding? If we’re actually talking freezing temps, I’ll want the hoodie AND the fleece for waiting around at the start lol!

A little pro-tip for all while I’m here:
TOE WARMERS are the unsung heroes of cold weather! They have an adhesive backing, which makes them superior to hand warmers for keeping hands warm: stick them to the palms of your gloves. You can even layer a 2nd pair of knit gloves over and sandwich that heat in.

For toes, the sticky warmers actually work better on TOP of the foot. Stick to the top of your sock, and carefully put your shoe on. I kept mine on like that to mile 13ish of the 2017 marathon, then pulled them out while taking a restroom stop.

Every time you look the race temps get lower. For heaven's sake, STOP LOOKING!!

My run was 63 degrees today with a T+D of 121. I really don't want to see race temps in the 30s. Time to make sure my Hot Hands packets aren't expired...

But I caaaaaaaan't!!!! I'm planning to start packing in about 4 days (we leave in 8 days) and I need to know if it's time to [panic] buy some things to insure I don't turn into an ice sickle on the course! I don't even run outside here when it's below about 47 (unless it's sunny) and the cold just zaps my energy.

Legit question anyone know what’s good gloves that actually let you use your phone?

Got in a 8 miler today, and I am now wanting lower temps for MW. LOL. Today it was 75 degrees with 97% humidity. Holly cow that was rough. LOL.

On another note, anyone else not a fan of the new Lightning Lane systems. I am sitting here trying to figure out 8 days of where we are going to be in the parks and what rides we can get. Question, does anyone know if the LLMP is only good for one park? So if we bought it to use at Magic Kingdom during the morning, but then hopped to Hollywood Studios, are you not able to use it for HS?

I love toe warmers! My feet are the first thing to get cold. If they are cold, so is the rest of my body.

I love the ideas you have. Never thought to use them these ways.

I kept thinking that it was heat training for the marathon, then praying I didn’t need it. 😝
I added extra layers on the treadmill yesterday. Almost didn't, but I don't want to jinx it and end up with record hot temps again!

the cold just zaps my energy
It has the opposite effect on me, so stick close! ;)

I have these and love how light they are, but still warm. https://www.rei.com/product/191835/smartwool-liner-gloves

I use whatever the cheap gloves Walmart sells. My MIL calls them cheer gloves. My gloves are usually one of those things I’ll put and take off constantly. I need someway to let heat escape. I also have a pair of Nike thermal ones I picked up from a tjmaxx. They all work on screens though sometimes it takes multiple swipes

If you have a Harbor Freight store in your area, you can buy 6 pairs of white cotton knit gloves for $4.99. Not only a great throw-away item, but actually looks part of a Mickey or Minnie costume. I have used them several times in the corral and tossed them in the first mile.
You have to take them off to use your phone.

I haven’t used the new system of LL but I believe you can use of park hopping. You have to use one of your first park LL first and then can pick up another.
I was planning to do the LLMP since only doing 2 days in the parks. Also, I think you can save by picking the cheaper park first. If you pick MK you pay the highest price.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

My feet are always cold, and I have Raynaud’s disease, which makes the cold actually dangerous, so keeping toes and fingers warm is a high priority for me! I figured out the tricks with toe warmers by pure accident: I lost a hand warmer somewhere in the parking lot before a race, but a friend had extra packs of toe warmers so I gave that a try - SO much better than needing to hold on to those little bags! And the top of toes thing came about because it was extra cold and windy one race and the air was just blowing right in through the tops of my shoes - I switched the warmers to the tops of my feet hoping to reduce that cold intrusion and discovered they worked much better that way.
