Marathon Weekend 2025

MAFDOE: I would medal in Everest regret - I've done the WDW marathon 8 times, and every year I say I want to ride Everest but every year I get there and my stomach is not feeling awesome because running and going on a roller coaster doesn't seem like the best thing to do with many miles left to go. But then I see other people's photos and recaps after and I'm like "whyyyy didn't you ride?" Sigh

The good thing about riding Everest is that once you’ve done it, you’ll be ready to hit Tower of Terror and Rock 'n Roller Coaster when you get to Studios.

My wife and I have done the WDW marathon 3 times. The first one, we hit Everest at just the right time. About a 5 minute wait, an awesome ride, and we were back on the course. The next time, we hit AK before Everest opened, and we didn't want to wait around for 20 minutes. The last time, we hit AK waaaaaay after it opened, and there was a huge line, even for single riders. It definitely seems like luck plays a big part in timing. (Or maybe, just we just needed better planning the last 2 races)

If you could win an Olympic medal in something runDisney related, what would it be? And I'm not just talking about the running (although I know we have some super-speedy people in here too.)
LOL, this is a fun question!

MAFDOE (a little late, sorry): I have an uncanny ability to track down Princess Jasmine for meet and greets when I am visiting WDW. Princess Weekend is always the most fun because I like to run in Princess Jasmine attire so how much more stalkery fun can it be? 🤣 🤪 DH is a good sport and will dress up with me (Jasmine and JasMAN). But I do have *several* Jas tattoos so when I see her in the parks, it's an easy conversation piece with her (hopefully, she isn't frightened.). 🤣

This is also me. I feel the same way about cosplay at conventions. I love them but don't have the motivation, and prefer comfort over all!
MAFDOE: I think a medal for seeing how many attractions I can hit before the main crowds fill up the park. Or, unfortunately, for how many steps I can do when I should be heading back to the resort to rest up for the race the next day....

As for the costuming: I used to not do it, but love the challenge of trying to replicate a costume or character. On top of that, the reactions from people, especially kids, makes it worth it.

Word. The first couple of times at MW, I never knew that was even a thing. Then when I do remember to try it, got told "get in line and wait". Contemplated ToT, but wasn't sure about standing around that long, and RRC never even occurred to me. Hmm. I wonder about trying for Tron?

MAFDOE: Wow, I think that I am a solid bronze 🥉 in a lot of things compared to all of you.

People who come to my house would probably award me the gold for the most running shoes in an entrance but I have seen some of yours in pictures 😜

Maybe the most wearing of a runDisney costume in regular life… This MU dress is being seen!

MAFDOE: I would likely medal in most distance traveled in the parks on race days. Even during Dopey, I was still walking between 11-13 miles a day through the parks because I cannot stand to miss out on the park experience and I thrive on making poor decisions for my legs. I DO make myself take it easy on Saturday after the half for Dopey, so I scale my walking down to about 8 miles. 🤣

RE: Everest, I have notes from earlier in this thread that 7:30-9:15 might be the sweet spot for athletes (the earlier you can get there in that timeframe, the better), and obviously I have that marked down as a must, as I missed out in 2022. Would love to do RnRC or ToT but I just don't know if I have the capacity to sit and handle any sort of intensity that late in the race. That goes for Guardians too. By Epcot I might not be able to get up if I sit down for anything.

I think we have to be out of MK by the time Tron opens? Would be cutting it awfully close even if we could do it, would be really neat though and nice bc it's earlier than the intense rides above.

The timing for EE depends on where if falls in the course. 7:30-9:15 would have been about right for last year, but we think that actually it cut off some of the faster runners because course adjustments made it fall a bit sooner in the course. A corral people who ran “A corral pace” (iykwim) would have been through AK before the early hours started. One year they were directing runners to single rider enthusiastically, but this past race weekend they were not (single rider wasn’t even open, or was just as long a wait as standby. I think SR was closed but I can’t remember.) So that option can be hit or miss as well.

MK is clear/swept of runners before the park opens, so unless they open something in there specifically for the runners (as they did for the 90s themed weekend) it’s not an option for anything.

I will be interesting to see if they revert to the 22/23 course, or if we keep the ‘24 course.

I can relate

With the ability to have the start and corrals in the parking lot and not on the road (saving them time and tear down costs for HM and Marathon mornings) I suspect we will get something closer to the ‘24 course moving forward.
I was thinking more of the later portions where we either turn left or right out of BB parking lot, but the start probably informs how the later parts of the course shake out.

I will admit that I am an A corral runner. Looking back at my data, it looks like I was onto Western Way (after leaving Animal Kingdom) by 7:18 a.m. AK opened at 8 a.m., with (I'm assuming) a 7:30 a.m. Early Entry for resort guests. So your estimate is good!

No estimates needed. @DopeyBadger shared the famous spreadsheet with 2 of us so we could take that task off his very full plate, and I just looked at that. :rotfl2:
