The key is what you put as your Estimated Time of Finish - I like to think of it this way:
They basically drop you in a "bucket" based on your Estimated Time of Finish and then slot you out based on PoT comparable to those people in the same estimated time of finish. It makes it easier to process so many registrants versus having one HUGE stack of registrants - just break it down piecemeal - they're putting the work on the runner to determine "where" they should start (estimated time of finish) and then going from there.
I learned at Tink Weekend that the drop-down for Estimated Time of Finish is almost, if not AS, important as your PoT. Your PoT just validates what you think your estimated time will be. Active/RunDisney won't do the math for you. For Tink, I had a PoT that CLEARLY put me in Corral B - but when I did my registration after transferring, I didn't change the dropdown from the static 3:15 half to reflect what my PoT was equivalent to (sub-2:30 half). I just asked at Runner Relations what I did wrong, since I do so many races a year, so I could know better for next time. She immediately pointed out that I was estimating to finish in 3:15, regardless of what my PoT said - so, it was operator error on my part. But then she stickered my bib for the corral that matched my PoT (after looking at a print-out to see what the corresponding time/pace would be).
For what it's worth, my bib number was 12 numbers from the first number to start my original corral at Tink - so that's how I've developed this theory, along with what I've learned by talking to and volunteering with Runner Relations.
I can't remember what got screwed up at wine and dine, maybe I am blocking it out! So I can't remember what I did there. But this time, I submitted a 2:42 half POT and see I actually selected the 5:20-5:30 finish (I was caught off guard since I am just doing the half, but my TA gave me the extra goofy bib). They put me in M for the 6:00 range. I did Macmillan and it gave me a 5:40, so that still isn't matching M. Unless they just decided to bump me due to a challenge bib.
What I am wondering, and you mentioned this to me earlier is why! I had emailed trackshack and asked if I could submit my wine and dine time, even though it fell after the POT deadline, since I was doing late registration. They told me I could, so that is what I used. So I am wondering if they actually declined that POT and just assigned me to one of the last corrals that they made so large.
Oh well. I don't want to be that person that rails against disney and won't stop complaining. I'll just be a bit sad and mopey over here for awhile!
