Marathon Weekend 2017!

The key is what you put as your Estimated Time of Finish - I like to think of it this way:

They basically drop you in a "bucket" based on your Estimated Time of Finish and then slot you out based on PoT comparable to those people in the same estimated time of finish. It makes it easier to process so many registrants versus having one HUGE stack of registrants - just break it down piecemeal - they're putting the work on the runner to determine "where" they should start (estimated time of finish) and then going from there.

I learned at Tink Weekend that the drop-down for Estimated Time of Finish is almost, if not AS, important as your PoT. Your PoT just validates what you think your estimated time will be. Active/RunDisney won't do the math for you. For Tink, I had a PoT that CLEARLY put me in Corral B - but when I did my registration after transferring, I didn't change the dropdown from the static 3:15 half to reflect what my PoT was equivalent to (sub-2:30 half). I just asked at Runner Relations what I did wrong, since I do so many races a year, so I could know better for next time. She immediately pointed out that I was estimating to finish in 3:15, regardless of what my PoT said - so, it was operator error on my part. But then she stickered my bib for the corral that matched my PoT (after looking at a print-out to see what the corresponding time/pace would be).

For what it's worth, my bib number was 12 numbers from the first number to start my original corral at Tink - so that's how I've developed this theory, along with what I've learned by talking to and volunteering with Runner Relations.

I can't remember what got screwed up at wine and dine, maybe I am blocking it out! So I can't remember what I did there. But this time, I submitted a 2:42 half POT and see I actually selected the 5:20-5:30 finish (I was caught off guard since I am just doing the half, but my TA gave me the extra goofy bib). They put me in M for the 6:00 range. I did Macmillan and it gave me a 5:40, so that still isn't matching M. Unless they just decided to bump me due to a challenge bib.

What I am wondering, and you mentioned this to me earlier is why! I had emailed trackshack and asked if I could submit my wine and dine time, even though it fell after the POT deadline, since I was doing late registration. They told me I could, so that is what I used. So I am wondering if they actually declined that POT and just assigned me to one of the last corrals that they made so large.

Oh well. I don't want to be that person that rails against disney and won't stop complaining. I'll just be a bit sad and mopey over here for awhile!

Ah, that's it. My BFF registered late for Pixie Dust this year and used a half marathon that occurred after the PoT deadline and they put her in the next-to-last corral. When she went to RR to ask what went wrong, they looked at her registration print out and compared it to a chart and said the race was past PoT deadline and they couldn't accept it.

Unfortunately, RunDisney doesn't do corralling - that's ALL Track Shack. And they're sticklers about real minutiae.

Thanks for pointing this out. This changes the warm-up for the HM and M because the road that used to be open is now not there anymore with the change in corral location:

@Wendy98 I believe I told you a week or so ago (I think it was you) about warming up about before the marathon. But as you can see the area I had previously mentioned available to you (where M through P is above) is no longer open road. And even that small space next to corral A is likely the equipment trucks and stage and stuff and isn't likely actually available road space. Looks like some warming up inside the corral instead.

I might try warming up on the course at the start line before it begins. I will be starting in the front and right at the start. What about that area that looks like a parking lot? Or is there a bunch of people/stuff in that area?

I don't know that they'll let you on the course at the start to warm up. You can't pass the start area, or really get out of your corral once you're in.

It's a good 20-minute walk from the parking lot in to the corral area (the Runner Walk-Up on the map is from that parking lot), so it's not super conducive to a warm-up, because you'll have to stand around.

Depending on what you're wanting to do, the A corral *may* be large enough. I was in B at Tink and the A corral was a Ghost Town - there was plenty of room for warm-up sprints, etc., and many runners were taking advantage.

Starting in Corral D for Dopey!!! Plan on having fun this year and getting lots of pictures. Hopefully the lines won't be too long. Still have to time it right to get to Everest when it opens.

I am going to print the email from them telling me it would work, and I already replied to the prior email conversation with them to see if that shakes anything loose too.

2017 runDisney corrals: 1
Me: 0

Lol.
