Marathon Weekend 2017!

I'm not hearing much about the course and I'm wondering what will change with DHS under construction.I believe the entrance we enter DHS through by TOT is construction free so I'm thinking we will at least run through some of DHS before heading to the Boardwalk,At least I hope.Maybe the construction is so extensive we'll have to skip DHS altogether and the course might take us directly to the Boardwalk,when is the course info going to come out.There was a link that showed certified marathon courses at WDW,does anyone have it.

The description on RunDisney.com says it still crosses through all four parks and WWoS, so I doubt they'll be getting rid of the DHS portion because of construction. I've been trying to find the USATF-certified course on the website, but it hasn't been published yet.

For W&D, they didn't actually certify the course until two days before the race.

This is the certified course from this year. The backstage portion of the DHS crossing now no longer exists.

I checked USA track and field a week or so ago where they post that stuff and didn't see anything.

Half Marathon back open ... I imagine this is just the beginning of RunDisney splitting up unsold challenge bibs.

Yup. Right after I registered with a TA! Figures! I did my registration a few days ago and she has yet to email me about booking the hotel portion. I saw one room at Kidani open up with the current discount so I snagged it myself, so I am not panicking just yet! But I am not sure if I can transfer that to the TA to meet my room and ticket requirement or not since I booked with the discount. They have made this so confusing!

I guess the one fun thing is she gave me Goofy for the price of the half. I haven't trained for the full (planning 2018) so I will be running the half only still. But the extra goofy shirt sounds like a great motivational tool for training for the next year!

What kind of real food do people eat on their long runs? I noticed I was getting hungry toward the end of my 16-mile run. Had a clif bar for breakfast and Gatorade chews throughout the run.

I don't unless I'm running an ultra. Some suggestions for you would be PB&J sandwiches or fig newtons. You might want to consider liquid nutrition from Tailwind or something similar, too, if you don't think you can stomach an increase in the gels or chews.

If you've got a "free" bib for the marathon why not come out for the start and the 6 miles to MK to experience the run through T&T, Main Street USA, and Cinderella's Castle past the cheering throngs? They'll have sweeper buses there to take you back to Epcot and get your medal for the marathon (but not for the Goofy, which I believe requires you to actually finish). Who knows, you might surprise yourself and make it much farther along.

I thought about it. But I have a few reasons why I think I'd rather not. I fly home on Sunday, I do 2-3 races at the World a year so I have run through the castle a lot already, and to be honest I am not a huge medal person. I do it for personal fitness and an excuse to keep going to Disney But the biggest thing is probably that for me I have a love hate relationship with running - more specifically the long training runs. I think half marathons are my sweet spot so I am focusing on time improvement there. For me a full marathon is probably a one and done, bucket list item. I know that once I got out there I am not someone who would be ok getting swept and I'd push. I'd end up going as far as I could and walk the rest. But, I think it would ruin it for me for the next year (when I am hoping my friend @twinsouvenirs will do the big anniversary year too!). I kind of want to go out for a big blow out first marathon experience and really make some fun, crazy memories. Like everything, you always remember the first!

ETA - I can't 100% say I won't have a moment of adrenaline burst and go ham on this plan. Which is why I was so torn on taking the "free" upgrade!

That is my biggest fear, especially working in the ED, that someone will sneeze at me the wrong way and I'll end up sicker than a dog race week. I use extra hand sanitizer and soap the week before a race, heh.

Things getting better, took a lot of vitamine C, ginger, some asperine (do not know how to translate that :-D) and had a good sleep this night.

I hope to be back in training end of next week. This weekend is definitely off for me.

For raceweek, I just hope the best. The long flight from germany is my biggest fear.

My ankle is better. Before my ankle starting hurting I was doing 14.5 to 15 per minute. I finished last years 10k in 99 minutes. I was hoping to improve but now I just want to enjoy myself and finish.

@lhermiston I agree with the suggestion of Tailwind. I have only run one ultra, but going into it I knew I would burn out on gels. So I tried some new things like salted/boiled potato chunks, watermelon and PB&J slices. It really broke the monotony of gels, was kind to my stomach and provided needed energy. I tried Tailwind in long training runs, not in the race though. It replaced needing anything else. I have a couple friends who swear by the stuff. I think it is worth trying.

Finished the last 10K for this year's Run Houston series. It was a Rainy, Windy and Freezing morning - temps were 57 and bad wind all around. Yes, this is considered freezing in Houston, given that anything lower than 80 degrees and we are on a Winter Advisory down here.

My time was 51:20, which is over 3 minutes slower than my PR, but considering it was windy and I have left foot peroneal tendonitis and right hip/butt cheek IT band pain, I consider this a small win. I guess my conditioning is maybe at 90%. Although I do admit I am a bit disappointed by this performance given that 3 weeks ago I ran the last 6 miles of my half marathon in 53 minutes, in pain as well.

I have one month - hopefully I can get the pains to subside and I could lose the extra 20 lbs, that would easily bring my times back down to pre-injury levels.

Anyway, small wins, steady progress and 18 miles still left tomorrow - likely just do a walk/run to be safe. Oh and the final piece of the bling set is complete for this year - note my 3rd race was virtual due to injury, so, see, there are uses for those virtual races.

Rainy and ugly outside here today so I went Christmas shopping instead of doing my 6 mile run today. That means 6 miles on the treadmill tomorrow but it is worth it - I got 99% of my shopping done and the rest is online.
