Marathon Weekend 2017!

Glad you were able to finish without getting hurt. Lack of training makes injuries more likely, so good job in being smart about walking and suffering instead of pushing through it.

Since moving in July I just haven't put in the miles I was putting in other years to work my way through a full,I have the Disney full in a couple of weeks and hopefully that one turns out better. The half's I know I can deal with but even for this full I don't remember ever getting that dead leg feeling before 13 miles. As far as walking I pretty much knew I had to finish it walking as the pain on the top of my left foot was sharp and not normal,I'm certain if I would have tried to run more with that pain I would have ended up in the hospital.

This was us last year. We were gone for a month, leaving our home about a week before Christmas. We barely decorated our home and none of the hotels or condos came even close to what we do at home. It was great to get away, but it was just not the same. We are doing Christmas at our house again - pretty much the entire family demanded it. We will have about 40 people over, staying anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. They start arriving in about 2.5 weeks.

I already have the lights up on the house. Finishing the exterior lights this week. We host the neighborhood Christmas party on 12/10, so we have a lot of work to do to get ready. About 50 storage bins of interior decorations to go up. 4 Christmas trees. Sigh. I love this time of the year.
I go all out on the outside. 15,000+ lights done to music. Only Disney song right now it let it go, lots of Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Manheim Steamroller.

Last year the results site, where we could find our bib numbers, went live around December 4th (based on the 2016 thread)....really hoping that means it will be available at the end of this week. But if @Keels is right with her website link, then who knows because it looks like a different site is being used this year? Either way, I can NOT wait!!!!!!

Just need to stop getting injured...freaking A, I'm a walking triage center (Right Cuboid bone (feels healed, so that one may be ok), left Peroneal Tendon, Right IT band, and Right Butt Cheek!!!!!!) and I still have about 200 training miles left.

I keep checking every weekday for the info, and event guide too. Last year I read the event guide online at work as a way to help with the excitement. Even had a few doctors looking over my shoulder one night with interest.

We saw bibs and corrals on Dec. 8 of last year. Seeing as RD's first work day in Orlando is on the 16th (and with the holidays), I would imagine that Track Shack will probably have similar deadlines this year.

My guess, if we're lucky, is we start seeing stuff on the 6th.

With five weeks to go, you're looking at roughly 40 miles per week. Assuming at least two of those weeks will be for a taper, and now you're at 45-50 miles per week. Those kinds of miles can be tough when you're healthy, and even more so when you're injured. Have you thought about backing off and giving yourself time to heal? Going forward, you might want to consider a different approach to training too. You seem to be hurt quite often, so maybe choosing a Higdon plan and running outside will help keep you healthy in the future.

The Waivers are out ...

... is what I want to hear SOON!

Ok as someone waiting on her travel agent to get stuff sorted to buy her bib, you just scared the life out of me for a sec here!

With a lot of bibs still out there and races open - I wonder if that would delay this?

And related note - I wonder what happens to me? I am hopeful I will be registered in the next day or two...but I would be really sad to be in the last corral!

TA's will give you a warning that you're in the last corral. Worst case? Just go by Runner Relations with a print-out of your registration (make sure you put in PoT!!!) and a print-out of your PoT race. They'll likely help you out. They were doing that for last-minute registrants at W&D.

Thank you!! So far my TA has not mentioned it...so I guess maybe that deadline hasn't passed yet??

I think you're good!

I don't know for sure, but based on what I learned at W&D - TrackShack/RunDisney has all the bibs printed about three-four weeks out from race weekend ... that's why we've seen some names be screwy on bibs because of registration mishaps with Active.com. But they also print the remaining non-registered bib numbers for the last corral. These are for last-minute registrations, "make goods", media, etc. - but all without names and assignments in the last corral.

It's in everybody's best interest to be corralled correctly - so, that's why RunDisney will make exceptions and Runner Relations will do their best to make sure that you start where you should be starting.

You have made me feel so much better! These are the things that keep me up at night...haha. Luckily for me there is another night owl who happens to be a RD genius!

Ha! Genius is far too kind of a descriptor! ;)

I've just been asking questions and talking to the same RD people since Tinker Bell, so I've been able to get a great understanding of how their operation works - compared to the local race organizers I work with here in Funkytown. :D

Well now I am going to be singing "let me take you to funkytooown" haha!

Is anyone else out there wishing it was Marathon Weekend already? I know I can't be the ONLY one ...
Nope, I am happy that I have a couple of weeks, to do some of my long runs and enjoy new years eve at WDW.

The only thing, that I really wish it was Marathon Weekend already is my fear to get sick, a cold, get an injury.

So, fingers crossed :-)

My injuries are a result of past injuries to my cuboid bones that i didn't know i had. at this point it doesn't matter if i back off or not because those injuries will show up either way until i get used to my custom orthotics that i got this week. i'ce been forced to sloe down as a result , so that is effectively reducing the chance of problems more than reducing miles. the miles at least keep my conditioning up.

You might want to touch base with @DopeyBadger about some of his time-based training philosophies and research. He's got some information that once you get past a 2:30 or so on a given training run (I'm not certain if there's a rule of thumb for a weekly time total) you hit a point of diminishing returns on the benefit of training while the risk of injury starts to increase significantly. So if you've slowed down but kept your mileage constant you may actually be increasing your risk of injury. It might be beneficial to switch to something more time-based than mileage-based while you get used to your orthotics. Once you get back up to speed you could look at switching back to mileage. Just a thought...
