Marathon Weekend 2017!

In fairness to others, he is 71 years old so his BQ qualifying time is considerably slower than most everyone else and he did not come close to qualifying at last years marathon. Not sure that I could come up with a run/walk interval to get me under 3:20.

It is just consideration of others whether it is walking 3 or more abreast, cutting in front of others, yelling at other runners, jumping corrals, blowing snot rockets, throwing cups of gatorade, etc. It is just a few, but a few out of 20,000 makes for more than for local races.
This isn't what @PrincessV was talking about though - she was explaining why someone would potentially be walking during the first mile.

I don't think you're going to find many who think the bad behavior you're mentioning is, well...good. But that's not what she's talking about.

And 71 or not, I wouldn't mind running Galloway's BQ time - some may think it's "slow" but it's pretty impressive to me. And there's a post from him on his Facebook (from 2013) where he says he BQ'd (post-hip fracture) using a :30/:15 interval, switching to :20/:10 for the last 2 miles. Not a sub-3:20 but he needed to run a 4:09:59 and got it.

The run/walkers have not been an issue for me. When I first started running and was in first half marathon there was a run/walker in an Elvis costume that would pass me, then get to his walk interval and I would pass him and this would repeat for the whole 13 miles. It was good motivation to pass the King... although he finished in front of me at the end.

With current corral placement I do not see any after a few miles and I tend to run on the side of the roads and maneuvering around those walking is not an issue except for a few areas in the marathon.

Exactly as Ariel484 said - I wasn't talking about rude behavior; I was responding to someone who did have an issue with people walking, in large part because he/she didn't submit PoT to be placed in a corral appropriate to his/her pace. I hope he/she sees your post because it illustrates my point perfectly! When you submit PoT, you wind up with like-paced runners, regardless of whether or not they happen to walk. :thumbsup2

I'm looking forward to it, but Christmas has my focus right now . I love Christmas .

Since we leave for Florida the week before Christmas, my meanie Grinch of a husband is always reluctant to let me go all-out on the Christmas decorations ... my Mom usually has a tree waiting for me to decorate at her house when we get there, but it's just not the same.

Is anyone else out there wishing it was Marathon Weekend already? I know I can't be the ONLY one ...

I can't wait for Marathon weekend but thankfully its not this weekend as my full at Space Coast was a rough one,at least the second half was.It took me 23 minutes longer than it did last year but it felt like it was much more.Lack of training, not feeling 100% due to a cold coming on but thankfully it wasn't bad enough to make me feel awful and a hard time getting sleep the night before added up to what I knew would not be an easy race. The first half I got through it just fine but around mile 12 I felt my legs stiffer and deader than they normally are,I normally don't feel that at least until the later miles in a full so when I got to what they call the "Wormhole chute" which is when a full runner decides to take this chute and finish with the half runners I looked at it for a good 10 seconds cause I knew the second half would be rough, but no chance in h**l I was going through that,I ventured on.What was great about this race and actually helped me get through it was the families in the neighborhood setting up their own stations with all kinds of goodies and music. There must have been 6-7 of these throughout the course, let's see I had blue moon beer, vodka, oranges, bacon, twizzlers,m&m's,Reese's cups,pretzels,etc...Lets get back to the story of actually finishing the race,so let's see dead stiff legs, lack of sleep, the start of a co!d and to top it off a blister on my left foot which I rarely get and around mile 22 or so when I tried to run the top of my left foot just had a weird pain that really hurt to tell me not to do that again,I consider myself pretty smart so I told myself I will finish this walking but if I try to run and that pain gets worse I might end up finishing with the assistance of a golf cart and that wasn't happening. So I walked on and finished and got a really cool 45th anniversary medal that'll remind me of how tough the race was.I got a half in Mt.Dora in 3 weeks that will hopefully come easier.

This was us last year. We were gone for a month, leaving our home about a week before Christmas. We barely decorated our home and none of the hotels or condos came even close to what we do at home. It was great to get away, but it was just not the same. We are doing Christmas at our house again - pretty much the entire family demanded it. We will have about 40 people over, staying anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. They start arriving in about 2.5 weeks.

I already have the lights up on the house. Finishing the exterior lights this week. We host the neighborhood Christmas party on 12/10, so we have a lot of work to do to get ready. About 50 storage bins of interior decorations to go up. 4 Christmas trees. Sigh. I love this time of the year.

Wow - that sounds magical! No wonder the family demanded to keep Christmas at home! I hope y'all have the happiest of holidays!

Glad you were able to finish without getting hurt. Lack of training makes injuries more likely, so good job in being smart about walking and suffering instead of pushing through it.
