Marathon Weekend 2016

Do any of you have merchandise that you wish you had gotten? I wish i could have gotten the black Champion marathon jacket (I think it had "running around the world in 26.2" on the the back)

I just got a bib for the glass slipper challenger from magical miles. No obligation for a room either.
I am only able to be there in time to do the half on Sunday. That seems to be a hard thing to find a bib just for the half marathon

There was a turquoise women's jacket that I saw several ladies wearing with the same type logo. That's what I want! haha

Yeah. There was a runDisney hoodie I should have gotten. But whatever, it is what it is. I'm certainly not going to eBay looking for it, and now I can spend that $50 on more important things (like Starbucks).

I wish I would have been able to find the white (rub-on) decals for my car. I got the magnet I wanted, but I really wanted those decals and couldn't find them. They were in the merchandise preview, but when I asked the volunteers, they really didn't seem to know what I was talking about.

This is my first post-race post. What at AWESOME experience! I can't think of anywhere else I would have wanted to run my first half. I'm already looking forward to next year, but I know I will do a few things different:
  • Do a better job of fueling. Nerves got the better of me on race morning, so I didn't eat enough. By mile 8, I was ready to shank someone for a Pringle.
  • You know that golden rule you guys keep repeating about "never try anything new on race day"? Yeah, I need to listen to that. I learned Cliff gels make me gag (literally). That was fun.
  • Do a better job of clipping my toe nails. I was nervous about getting them too close, so I didn't trim them enough. After run/walking 13+ miles, my toenails HURT.
  • Seriously, listen to the Disboarders when they say "don't let your excitement make you go out too fast". I felt like both the tortoise and the hare. First half of the race....zooom. During the second half, not so much. Hello massive positive split.
When I finished my race, my first though was "that was a reality check." Running 13.1 really put in perspective how long 26.2 miles is. I was in awe of all of the marathoners next morning as I waddled on and off buses like I had a corn cob shoved in an unfortunate place. My body hurt. My legs, my back, my toes...heck, I think my eyelashes hurt. When I saw Goofy or Dopey medals, I really wanted to just grovel. I. Am. Not. Worthy.

Now, here I am. 5 days out, and I have forgotten the pain, the gags, the woman I saw fall going down Main Street (bless her) and the gentleman I saw puking about half way through it. I've forgotten the early wake up call and the nerves leading up to the race. The chaos at the expo and the experience that is "wading" through Cinderella's Castle have completely left me.

I'm reading the boards, embracing your joy. Screw reality. I want to do Dopey.

I wish I would have gotten a hoodie because I was sick of my boring one the whole weekend. But I am happy with the non-run starbucks "you are here" mug and Cinderella glass slipper necklace I got at the Arribas brothers shop.

I just finished my recap in my journal though I want to add more pics once I get my marathonfoto downloads. If you are interested in my ramblings and a way too long recap of a 5k, it is here http://www.disboards.com/threads/roxymamas-5k-2015-2016-journey-rundisney-jan-2016.3396392/page-18

As so many people have already posted, this has really been a great thread and I'm going to miss it. I may have not posted as much as I'd have liked, but I read each and every post and took a lot of the advice to heart. Thanks to everyone for being so encouraging and also for so many sharing their knowledge base about the courses, the weekend, running in general, fueling, cool things to do along the way, and so many other things.

I don't remember exactly where along the course I realized I was absolutely going to finish Dopey, but it was one of the best feelings I've ever had in my life. This was my very first marathon and I can't thank you all enough for the support you showed to everyone on this board. I'm sure I won't do it all justice, but I actually started a trip report if you'd like to follow along. Congratulations to all who participated in the 2016 WDW Marathon Weekend!!

Congrats to all! I'm a few days late with this but slowly getting back to real life has more than bummed me out. I am still in total shock that I finished my first full marathon! I was over 6 hours which was a bummer since my goal was to be under but still a PR and the humidity really got the best of me. I did some big time ugly crying for no reason around mile 20 and out of happiness at the finish! I'm already thinking about what I want to do next year with it ... Full, goofy, dopey? We'll see! My running buddy keeps thinking I'm joking when I say maybe we should consider Dopey - what's up with that?

As for right now I'm signed up for Dark side and hopefully Avengers when that comes out as well as one in Green Bay WI in May if anyone around here will be doing that! Bummed things are dying down but I may just have to hop over to the 2017 thread soon to get talked into some challenges. Glad to see everyone had so much fun and I'm also part of the group saying this was one of the greatest weekends!

On Saturday I bought a marathon hat because I wanted something/souvenir from the weekend. But nothing really jumped out at me, and sadly the Dopey stuff just wasn't speaking to me. I do like the hat and the race shirts. Maybe next time.

The pain is all in the effort. I ran a 10K last year that was so hilly that I hurt for a week after. I am actually recovering from this marathon quicker than I did the 10K, minus the layers of skin that have been lost from my toes. I am about to lose a nail as well. So, don't let the pain you were in keep you from trying Dopey. If you train properly you will be fine.

I am still recovering from the weekend as far as catching up on sleep. But I may be weird, I didn't care about the early wake up. I have social anxiety disorder and normally large crowds bother me but the Expo, the staging area, the crowded corrals, none of it bothers me. I normally get really nervous for a race, for my 2 Disney races I was not nervous at all. It is all so strange to me.

For all these reasons, I hope to be back again next year. I am going to try and bring my kids and run the 5K with them.

Nothing jumped out at me either. I went in with money to spend and I just couldn't find anything I liked enough to spend the money.

Nice trip report so far.
