Marathon Weekend 2016

Does anyone know what rD does with the leftover merchandise that doesn't sell at the expo? There was a good bit of stuff left when I went by on Saturday afternoon. Just curious. I know that purses showed up in Disney Springs last year. Any chance they send things to the outlets in FL?

I had asked that to an RD rep. It will go to a liquidation warehouse.

For the Marathon weekend vets, how long until you can print your certificate?

If you buy the marathonfoto Goofy Challenge photo package, do both races automatically get added to your download?

Yup- how long it takes is the question.. Some years it takes days others weeks (wine n dine just showed up at the cast outlet just after Christmas..)

Ah, so it goes to the cast outlet and the average joe can't access it? Good to know! Thanks ya'll.

OAN, I think I just talked DH into Marathon weekend 2017. Half for him and either full or goofy for me!!! :cool1:

Random final thoughts on my first Dopey (and 2nd rD marathon):
1) Didn't love the official merchandise. Something about the colors and the designs of the clothes didn't click with me. I DID love the "free" race shirts I got (all 6!) and I am so glad rD now does women's specific shirts!
2) I did not anticipate not being able to sleep. I am not one who normally suffers from insomnia, but the combo of anxiety about the race and waking up at 3am kept me from a decent night's sleep for 4 days straight. I crashed HARD Sunday night! If I do this again, I might consider taking some benadryl or nyquil to help me sleep better.
3) That weird out and back just before AK on the marathon was awful! There has to be a better way to get some more distance in to make up for the track being gone. On that same line - I was happy to have a little bit more time in MK with the extra bit in Fantasyland and Fronteirland!
4) ESPN is still as bad as I remember it. I went in that place feeling kind of decent - almost surprised I still felt so good - and left it feeling like I might not make it to the end. Ugh - it just drains the life out of you! :sad2:
5) That strange box of food - the same all 4 days. Who gets done with a run and thinks "Gee, I'm really craving fake cheese, craisins, and oreos!". At least there were bananas. Disney could really do better here
6) Why did we get space blankets after the 5K and 10K, but not the half or the full? Inquiring minds...
7) Overall - it was wonderfully organized, as always, with lots of great stuff along the course to take your mind off the pain and suffering. Lots of support, cheering crowds, medical tents all over the place with attentive and helpful volunteers, and plenty of water stops.
8) Already thinking of Dopey 2018 (like everyone else!) - I have really enjoyed this board! Thanks everyone!

I've been reluctant to post, mostly because I am reluctant to be back in the "real world." LOL.

Being a veteran Disneyland RunDisney runner, I didn't think running down Main Street and seeing the castle would be a big deal for me. Boy, was I wrong. I teared up as soon as I saw that fog-covered, most beautiful Christmas-lit thing I've ever seen. Both when I first saw it and when going under the snow that Elsa was throwing off the back (NICE TOUCH DISNEY).

But overall, I much prefer running in Disneyland. Yes, our parks are smaller and the time actually in the park is limited (not to mention I think the races are more expensive). But at least we get entertainment on the streets of Anaheim. The run for me between parks was soooooo boring. It was shocking to me. The uneven streets definitely had an impact as I was still feeling it in my quads through Monday! So all-in-all, if you have never done a run in California, I really think you should give us a shot. :) And give me a jingle if you do! :)

I did improve my half time by 4 minutes, but it really didn't feel like a success to me. This race was hard for me. I didn't anticipate the inclines being so difficult for me, especially at the end leading into Epcot. Seriously? Mile 12 Disney? Was that a freeway on-ramp or something? Either way, it "stole" another 2 minutes off my time since I had to walk the whole thing in that section. I really need to get better and don't know where to start, so I guess that is coloring my view about being happy about the 4 minute improvement.

My bf did his first full marathon on this weekend, and by mile 18 he was ready to call an uber. :) Like a lot of you, he made it to EE just before opening and decided to hang out and ride it and he was really glad he did. But after that, he felt like there was nothing to look forward to on the run. Marathon running is definitely not for everyone.

Like everyone else, I am sad to see this thread close. Has anyone thought of making a general running thread that we could all join? Or is there one? Or a "Veterans of 2016 WDW Marathon Weekend" lol. I've loved all of the advice and camaraderie. Who knew running had all of this too?

I don't love the food boxes but I usually wind up eating the chips, powerbar and oreos. Most of my local races have pizza or soup at the end. That would be awesome, but a logistical nightmare.

They did have the blankets after the half and the full. I got one after each race. They weren't handing them out to everyone though. For the full I grabbed mine from a huge pile of them on the right just after the medals and before the water. For the half they may have been in the same place, but I didn't grab mine till I passed an aid tent walking near all the charity tents.

Congrats everyone! I am proud to say I am a marathoner!

Overall it was a great experience but I kind of fell apart after mile 20. I agree with everyone about that awful ESPN area and the slanted ramps/roads really made it difficult for me to keep my rhythm going. I had to walk a lot those last 6 miles, but I did it, and now there's lots of room for improvement. This was my first marathon but not my last! See you in 2018 for Dopey!!

I started a journal and posted a bit of a recap of my weekend in there if anyone is interested. Kind of scatterbrained thoughts on how the Weekend went for me and a few pictures. If I did it correctly there should be a link in my signature. If not, I'll have to spend some more time trying to figure out basic computer skills.

I am struggling being back to real life too. It has been 2 days I have been home but it feels like 2 months. Usually my Disney hangover lasts a couple weeks. I am just so bummed to be home after having so much fun at that race. I am craving another Disney race so badly.

I am all for a general running thread. I am happy to start it if other people want to participate.

If anyone does trip reports please post them here. I want to follow along! I just started mine yesterday.

Stuff usually gets divided 3 ways, the two outlet stores on international (prime n premium) and the cast store. Usually the outlets get the larger variety and supply and I've heard they ship from their stores via phone-

I never make it to the outlet stores so couldn't tell ya when stuff generally shows up after races :)

Perfect thanks! I'll be back in Orlando this weekend and early next week. It may be worth an uber ride to the outlet. We were thinking about doing it anyway to see what Dooneys they have.

I can't find the post but didn't someone say they found a travel provider getting rid of bibs for princess weekend. I would like to run the half.

I know Storybook Destinations had some a while back. Not sure if they still do.

I just got a bib for the glass slipper challenger from magical miles. No obligation for a room either.
