Marathon Weekend 2016

I'm excited for my first Disney Marathon on Sunday! Looks like I'm in Corral I - any estimates on when I'll actually start from that corral? I'm mostly interested in trying to estimate if I'll be in AK at the right time to ride EE! LOL :) Thanks!

I'm in I too!! See you there :) I am also still battling off a two month cough so you won't be alone with that either.

First timer here. I'm seeing people comment that if they are by EE when it opens during the race, they plan to ride. Can you really ride rides during the race if they are open?

The only ride I'm aware of that people ride is Expedition Everest. I did that last year and it was a blast!

Congrats to the 5k runners!

Now the serious questions.

Any Metal Detectors?

Any real costume crackdown?

I did not see any metal detectors. I did see lots of costumes that dragged on the ground.

Although ... I did get pulled out to go through the metal detector at DHS.

No Metal Detectors.

Hard to say about "costume crackdown" - I saw a gal in a full-length wedding gown as Wedding Day Ariel, and a group of five or so people in "surround" costumes to resemble cars on a monorail train.

I saw them to, did you hear their sound effects. They were playing the monorail guy and the horn. It was an awesome costume!

I don't know personally but I have heard others say they have gone on Rock-n-roll Rollercoaster and the Toy Stiry ride in Hollywood Studios.

And are you scarred for life now?

(I went through the metal detectors daily at Disneyland last week, and it was totally fine...the way some people are talking about it, it's like they need therapy afterward.)

Under the runDisney policy that's been in place for almost two years now, anyone not submitting a proof of time is automatically put in the last corral. For marathon weekend, the web site clearly says:
  • Proof of time must be provided from an officially timed race reflecting results after January 1, 2014 and must be one of the below listed distances. Runners will be placed in the last corral if the appropriate race distance is not submitted for Proof of Time.

Thanks. I last participated in 2010. I know the ropes. Just had nt realized the recent changes. I have done 2 halfs and a full and never was in the last corral. So it was unexpected.

Clearly or not--no need to admonish me for it.

Further--this is for times faster than X. So when one claims faster than X and doesn't have proof of time, then they get bumped. That is how I always understood the policy. I only had proof for 2 of my 4 events.

I believe there's something that you checked when you registered acknowledging that you needed to provide proof of time at a later date...:confused3 Should have looked like this (hope the link works):

No worries. It does say UNDER. I did not realize that so few people wouldn't be 6:35 (or the half equivilant which was over the make for proof of time.)

So in other words--a lot less tortoises than I suspect if they could out us all in L with people who failed to provide proof of time for sub--whatever.

(Not intending to argue the point. But it still seems to read as I understand it. Knowing I could not have proof of time on time, I did not submit a faster time for that reason as I would have been placed in the last corral for failing to do just that.)

Sorry. Been up since three. I need a nap. :-)

If you are running this weekend I'd expect for that feeling to be magnified as the weekend goes on.

Based on the recommendations for running in the rain, I bought aquaphor, duct tape, vasaline and packed an assortment of garbage and ziploc bags. That should be pretty good insurance that it won't rain during the half or full.

The fire fighter being told she can't run in her gear is true. She's a member of the running group I am apart of. She says she runs in gear to bring awareness to the raised risk of cancer for the profession.

If you believe your costume does not break the rules then ask what rule you are breaking specifically? Technically it appears the giant Mickey bar did not break the rules as it did not encircle the body, have pointy edges, drag the ground, or have layers where things could be hidden. The firefighter was told it was due to "layers".

edit to add: I am on Jazz's side. She should have been allowed to wear her gear. She knew it may cause issues so went above and beyond and carried her ID as well to show she was a real fire fighter and not someone just dressed up as one.

Thanks for your contributions to the Please Don't Rain cause.... At this point I'd be more than content with no lightning.

You can't tell me they are going to turn away people for wearing their running rain gear for the half (assuming the weather forecast holds).
So a performance tee under a long sleeve performance tee under a running rain jacket = not layers
But Fireman's turnout coat = layers
ok...that's nuts

We just picked up some dollar store ponchos for $3 at the expo. Hopefully we wil stay dry and this stuff won't be needed.

Good luck!

So not to be a smart aleck to the Disney costume police, but if it were in the 30s and frigid--I'd be dressed in tons of layers.

I really don't get these supposed rules to keep us "safe".

Very unfortunate for the fire fighter.

I was going to hopefully meet up with a friend flying in but a little concerned over there "you may not take pictures with guests rule". My friend will be in a "tigger" running costume. It appears it follows costuming rules--but are they seriously going to kick us out for her snapping a photo with me?

I added to say I was on her side. The "layering" rule is suppose to be any layer they can say you are using to hide other things. I don't agree with it going for layers such as a fire fighter's uniform or a jacket etc. They specifically called out Jedi Robes as the layer they were banning. Now with the photo of course they aren't going to stop you taking photos with a friend. What they will stop is if you are in an exact replica costume or just really cool one and have a line of people taking your photo just like the official characters.

The costume thing is being "enforced" by humans - mostly volunteer humans - with obviously no baseline or true guideline as to what is good and what is bad. Even RunDisney clearly doesn't have an idea from that poorly worded guideline statement.

I get what the firefighter was trying to do, and frankly - if I were her and it was THAT important to me, I'd show up wearing my gear every day because there's a 50-50 chance the people she walks by on her way to the corral will let her pass. And once the emcees tout her, well there's no way RD will make her remove her gear at that point because it will just draw more needless attention to the situation.
