Marathon Weekend 2016

Congrats to all the 5k participants today!

QOTD: What is your favorite running related quote?

Not a running quote specifically, but fits and one of my favorites:

"It is not the aptitude, but the attitude, that gets you the altitude." -Scott Fischer (mountain climber)

Again, thanks for doing these; lots of fun!

Congrats to the 5k runners!

Now the serious questions.

Any Metal Detectors?

Any real costume crackdown?

I'm not there yet so I don't know if this is true, but I saw this posted on Twitter about "costume" crackdowns:

QOTD: What is your favorite running related quote?

One of my favorite running related quotes comes from a South African who described Comrades as "a great 5k. The problem is the two marathons you have to run to get to the starting line." I like this because it shows how we can find humor and fun in things that seem impossible to achieve at first glance.

Leaving from Baton Rouge tomorrow morning, but stopping in Gainesville Friday night, so we wont officially be there until Saturday morning. Hope you have a safe trip! You don't by chance run with the Varsity Sports group in Baton Rouge?
Nope, I don't run with any groups...just by myself, unless I can get DH to ride along with me on his bike! Have a good trip down to FL and a great run!

So sorry to hear about the firefighter. We saw her several times when we ran Goofy last year. I was astounded that she was doing Dopey in all that gear.

QOTD:

From Born to Run:

"Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up, it knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're the lion or a gazelle-when the sun comes up, you'd better be running."

I just had to look this morning at to what prices the EBay'ers have listed the items from the expo already. WOW.

RunDisney needs to make all of the merchandise available at racer sign up. Not just a package or 2. This would make the Expo experience so much nicer for everyone except the EBay crowd. No more stressing about the merchandise for those that are unable to get to an event a day or 2 after the expo opens.
Amen to this. Seems like it would make it better for everyone. Run Disney would likely sell more and it would be to the people that actually ran the races....

Congrats to all the 5k participants today!

QOTD: What is your favorite running related quote?

ATTQOTD - "To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift." -Steve Prefontaine

Not running specifically but from the Disney Movie meet the Robinsons "Keep moving forward"

QOTD:
"The real purpose of running isn't to win a race- It's to test the limits of the human heart." - Bill Bowerman

I bought this motivational poster for my DD after she ran her first half with me.

I'm excited for my first Disney Marathon on Sunday! Looks like I'm in Corral I - any estimates on when I'll actually start from that corral? I'm mostly interested in trying to estimate if I'll be in AK at the right time to ride EE! LOL :) Thanks!

I should start about 5:58. If you run slower than about a 14:30 pace you should hit mile 12.5 (where everest i) after the park opens.

Great info! Thank you SO much! I can normally maintain a faster pace than that, but have a horrible head cold & sore throat right now and plan on stopping for lots of character pictures, so maybe it'll work out after all :)

I'm in H this year but started in I last year,if I remember we started somewhere around 5:55 am,that's about 3 hours away from the ride opening and Everest is around mile marker 12.5,so you would have to be doing 13-14 minute miles to get a chance of riding it starting in I.I wasn't even close the last couple of years running by Everest around 8:20 or so.The only time I've run by it and it was just opening was during my first marathon when I started in the second to last corral around 6:15 or so.If you really want to ride it and your pace is faster than the 13-14 mm minimum you would need to go back and start in a later corral.I've been telling myself I plan to go back to the last corral one of these years to ride Everest and maybe to start dead last to see how many I can pass,I thought about doing that last year and for Sunday but I don't think I'll be doing it this year. The truth is for that first Disney full I did starting in the second to last corral was the most fun Disney full I've run it was that hot 2013 race and it just felt like all the runners were pulling for each other to complete the course in the heat and many more "runners there for the fun" than the faster middle of the pack runners in the middle corrals I've run the past couple of years.

First timer here. I'm seeing people comment that if they are by EE when it opens during the race, they plan to ride. Can you really ride rides during the race if they are open?

Corral B...I'm in you!

Wearing bright pink shirt with my Minnie stuff (hat and skirt and shoe bows.) Towards front center.

Come say hi.

I think I saw you!! Did you have a long sleeve pink top and a minnie hat? I was right up front of corral C but by the time I realised it was you it was too late to shout!

Congrats to the 5k runners!

Now the serious questions.

Any Metal Detectors?

Any real costume crackdown?

No Metal Detectors.

Hard to say about "costume crackdown" - I saw a gal in a full-length wedding gown as Wedding Day Ariel, and a group of five or so people in "surround" costumes to resemble cars on a monorail train.

I think the biggest cluster I saw today was people not knowing where the resort transportation was and would head towards the parking lot, only to have to go through bag check again.

In other news, a moment of silence for my favorite black running jacket. I got so hot around mile 1, I took it off and tied it around my waist and lost it at some point. Fitting that the jacket I bought to wear in my first-ever 10k was surrendered to the Dopey Gods. Stay hard, black jacket. You lived up to your $12 price tag and I hope you have a happy life somewhere else.
