Marathon Weekend 2016

This ban now includes special events.

I find it hard to believe they will hold with banning costumes for adults at the Halloween parties. That's part of the fun and lure for adults. I would be shocked.

I will say that I have noticed, at DL especially, that the adults and older children have been in costume on a daily basis lately. It seemed to be a lack of enforcement. Lots of people also dress like it's Dapper Day almost every day, but especially on Saturday nights when it's swing dancing in the parks.

I'm anxious to see what the official rule is. A few different messages I've seen on facebook - one even said she was told it would mean NO hats as well. I find that hard to believe as people wear hats/visors all the time in park & in racing. My outfits are running attire with embellishments including a tail and hair attachments. I can understand banning the full mask outfits as I thought that already was in place but people were anyway, like the antman and spidermans I saw online at Avengers.

I totally get banning full masks. Tail and hair attachments, which they sell in the parks, seems excessive, but we will see what they do. Most people I would say are mostly Disney bounding. There are a few people that go all out and everyone loves, including their own photographers and videographers, so we'll have to keep an eye on this.

Hi all! Can't wait for the upcoming race weekend! Does anyone know how quickly the "I did it" shirts sell out at the expo? I'm so annoyed that they stopped selling online before hand!

I am fine with the metal detectors. I don't get banning costumes from the races. But, I don't run in a costume so it won't impact me. But, I got my Magic Band in the mail today. Just one more step in the process that signals we are getting close.

I hope they clarify soon. I know I was going to wear this for the Princess Half with my DD. I was thinking of doing this for the full just to have a lot more fun since I am not as trained as I would like. Guessing this type of costume will not be allowed.

I'm interested to see what the 'costume' definition will be as it will be a very delicate line to cross and enforce as one can be 'in costume' wearing 'normal every day clothes' in particular patterns styles and colors.. But I could see the line being clothes must be 'normal fitting' (no flowy, boxes, props etc) but it'll be interesting..

Now I know this was before the new rule, but I also think rD would have a hard time backtracking on that. I also think that if races ban costumes altogether (assuming that means anything beyond Disneybounding), that they will see an even larger drop off on race registrations. What with Avengers, SW Dark Side, and Tink not being sellouts recently, that could be a huge risk. Costumes are a large part of why I and many others run Disney races. We've seen a big uptick in themed local races encouraging costumes at a fraction of the cost. They do not go through the Disney parks, sure, but the relatively short time in the parks for even 5K races might begin to lose its luster. Especially if prices keep going up and benefits decrease.

Regarding costumes, we are also running the Rebel Challenge and just got an email yesterday that addresses attire.

"Costumes are not only permitted, but encouraged at run Disney events to showcase your Disney-spirit. However, any attire or costume must be family friendly and not offensive, objectionable or a potential safety hazard to yourself or other runners. Face masks are not allowed. Your full runner bib must also be clearly visible on your front torso during the entire race. See the Event Guide for full costume guidelines."

I know it was released the same day as the costume ban, but I would assume rD was aware of things and that may be why they specifically addressed it.

I think that's standard. The same paragraph was in the marathon weekend email I got last week.
I think this probably happened somewhat suddenly and runDisney isn't entirely sure how it will affect the races, so they're not changing anything until they know that they have to.

I was thinking about this...I love the Disney races. I mostly stick to these because I use the vacation as incentive to keep up with my running. I very easily lose motivation in between training plans and for local races. I am torn now though. I need to start limiting my races a little! This year I have done PHM, W&D and marathon weekend. I did TOT last year and also have the dark side challenge coming up. So I have maxed out the Disney World races!! But now that we have the SW race here on the East coast...I think that is my yearly race. And I love the F&W festival so even though W&D is cursed I will probably keep signing up for that one. SO - my point was - I would love more themed races. But, if they keep having trouble selling these out like they have lately ("trouble" is all relevant here though right?), I am not sure they will keep adding. It is probably best for my wallet we stick with the status quo!

FWIW from a semi-local's perspective... I really think there are two things going on right now that don't really have anything to with each other, other than timing. One, a credible threat was issued targeting places where people gather in large numbers, hence all central FL theme parks implementing additional - and possibly temporary - security at the same time. "The stepped-up security comes one day after the Department of Homeland Security issued a bulletin saying it was "especially concerned" that terrorist-inspired attacks may target public events or places." (Tampa Bay Times: http://www.tampabay.com/things-to-d...-step-up-security-add-metal-detectors/2258189) Two: Star Wars. Legendary for bringing out cosplayers and lay people just wanting to wear elaborate costumes. WDW has the movie premiere plus special SW events going at DHS, hence the sudden outreach about costume rules.

How might any of it impact marathon weekend? No one knows. I imagine security will be stepped up, likely in a more visible presence of local law enforcement, plus lots of less visible ways. Maybe elaborate costumes will be banned; we'll see. I'm watching social media blow up with rumors and guesses and I swear the messages are getting sillier by the hour! My advice? Hang tight. Watch rD's social media feeds for new info, and relax until we hear something official. :thumbsup2

Anybody else see this? Any guesses what the new New Balance shoe themes will be???

OMG! Are those the themes for the 2016 WDW Marathon?
#soexcited
I was praying for the Tinker Bell NB, though...:lmao:

My magic bands arrived!....the ones that were supposed to arrive on Monday...they were delivered to the wrong address, returned to the post office and then re-delivered to my house. But now I also have a second set heading my way thanks to a nice customer service rep. from Disney. Once they get here...do both just work? I only have one MDE account so I know that is what they are linked to. I am guessing either set will work right? Thinking about bringing a set in my carry-on as a backup? Thoughts since this is my first trip using these things.
