Marathon Weekend 2016

NY seems to have finally realized that it's December. I'm not a fan.
Tomorrow was supposed to be my costume test-run, but with the cold weather, I have to add a layer, and switch out the capris for fleece-lined pants. I'm most worried about the shirt, which is new - I've worn the rest of the outfit together (including the capris), so assuming the shirt works out okay, I should be fine.
But seriously ... couldn't the cold have waited until next week to show up??

Just when I thought my training couldn't get any worse it has. Working in retail in December is just not conducive to any kind of life. It's all excuses, I know. I am planning to do an easy run after work tomorrow and I go in late on Monday so Monday will be my long run. I can't even express how disgusted I am with this training. I was doing so good all year until I had to take that 5ish weeks off. Now I can't find that groove again. I'll finish the race but it's gonna hurt.

Oh, I got my ME luggage tags today but they are saying they are for AS Sports. Its weird because I originally booked Sports but like 5 months ago. I normally don't trust my luggage to ME anyway but do I need to call to get new ones or does anyone think they will show up at the Contemporary with these tags?

Ugh! I have heard that as long as the reservation number is correct it'll be okay (and that you should cross out AS Sport and write "Contemporary" on it), but if it were me, I'd call and check. Maybe there's time for them to send you new tags?

I'd call like Ariel said if you plan to use them.

I haven't run all week thanks to being sick. I'm currently trying to get motivated to go run today, even if it's a short one. I guess that's why I came to this thread. Ha. To be honest, I haven't been doing any long runs since Avengers, but at least I've been running some, I guess. I know I should go out there, but I'm really not feeling it. I can't believe how close we are!

I finally got my plans more set and I am very happy with them right now. And, I even got a small bonus at work this week, that I'm trying my best to save for the trip (eye on Dooney's, hmm? lol).

I love the idea of a bright, Mickey-colored shoe, but Dumbo could be sweet especially with my eye on doing Dumbo next year! Although, I should really stop buying these shoes since the models they use are never quite right for my mutant feet. LOL.

Just did my last 20 miler. The last 3 miles felt pretty awful, but so glad it's done. Taper time!

Question about breakfast the morning of the marathon - I always have oatmeal and a banana before races and long runs - always. Anyone know what might be available and what time? Or would a microwave be available if I brought my own oatmeal? We're staying at the Beach Club.

Twenty on the treadmill tomorrow. Kids are home and husband is working. Not sure I am looking forward to it.
I really admire your mental game if you can do 20 on the treadmill! I would find that impossible. I made it up to 10 last year when I was injured but that was my limit. I managed to get my 12 in today outside and my knee felt good... I think I can start enjoying the anticipation again instead of enduring injury anxiety.

Alright, here is your final version of the Marathon Weekend Dis'ers. A total of...

50 Marathon Runners
41 Half Marathon Runners
26 10K Runners
29 5K Runners

are listed. My hope is that it helps facilitate meeting other Dis'ers while we're waiting for our races. I know I'm excited to get to meet so many of the nice people I've been conversing with over the last few months, either before the corrals, in the corrals, or cheering you on as you cross the finish line. So excited the last long run is out of the way and now it's time to let the body recover from the training and prepare for the fun part, racing! Less than 3 weeks!

Dooney question! Did the half last year only doing the 5k this year but wanted to purchase one of the Dooney's after regretting not doing so last year. Haven;t been able to keep up with the boards as mush this year my son is more mobile and active!

Did I miss the chance to pre-order? I can's seem to find a link so I'm guessing yes?

Thank you!

Lisa

On the marathon front, I'm taking a much-needed break from sending resumes to go on a long run today, and I'm working on a super-budget option to just go down for the weekend rather than going for the entire week. Won't be as fun as what I had originally planned for us, but I think I can make it work so I won't have to miss out on my first marathon. My custom-ordered marathon singlet arrived from Etsy yesterday, and rather than being sad, I decided to remain positive and look at what I can do to make a short trip work. Just a little extra inspiration (btw - my shirt has the "Brave" quote on the front). Thanks again for all the kind words and support.

@MeridaAndAngus,
I know I'm pages past your post, but I've been thinking about you and your job situation. I hope that you have been able to work out a way to even do a short weekend, for a couple of reasons.
One- after all that goes in to prepare for this, you deserve to cross the finish line!
Secondly- I remember how empowered I felt when I ran my 13 mile training run. No crowds, no fanfare, just me and sneakers
(well, a few other items too! ;) ) I'm sure that you've felt that feeling of conquering something, of feeling powerful and accomplished... We all talk about it here.
I really really hope for you that you have the chance to run your first marathon, because I believe you will finish and feel amazing, accomplished, powerful.... And somehow, I believe, that feeling ripples into the world around us, we present ourselves differently, and things around us shift to accommodate how we present ourselves,
So in the end, your marathon may very well help you to change the direction or tone of your career.

As you can see, my time off has made me very philosophical! Lol!
But, I have been thinking of you and your situation, I am sending prayers and the very best of wishes!
.... And that goes for all of you! :cheer2:

How's everyone's long run going this weekend? 20 miler done on a beautiful cold morning in South Louisiana. Now the taper begins.

It is done! Thursday to today I simulated Dopey (though only 20 miles today). I am happy to say I finished and am ready to begin the taper. Today's 20 felt better than yesterday's 13 I am excited about that. I can actually see my family in the mornings now. It will be a nice treat to reduce the mileage as the holidays hit!

I am not going to use them. I am going with someone and he said he would be fine just getting our bags as well so I think we are good. Thanks.

I am pretty sure you could get hot water from the coffee maker in the room for your oatmeal, right? I don't drink coffee so I never use them but they are in each room, aren't they?

I am probably just bringing some bagels and peanut butter.

My plans for a long run tomorrow aren't looking good. Another sick child that looks like she will be staying home, which means I may not get to run or I will have to get in a few miles after I get out of work at 10pm. That should be fun! At this point I am growing more and more disgusted in my training so as I am struggling the 2nd half of this race I should be pretty pissed at myself.

You're the best!! Thanks for doing all this.

I did my final 20 miler today on the treadmill. Really awful to run that long indoors but I watched Antman, The avengers and part of Inside Out. Seemed to help but shows how long it took lol. Hopefully I can get my pace up a bit with the race adrenaline but I'm happy with the 13:27 I did today considering it's the longest I have ever gone. I'm getting really excited for the race but can't believe it is actually coming up so quickly!
