Marathon Weekend 2016

Ironically this year the Wine and dine half was a 10k

At least if you ask RunDisney it was! That bugs me a little still...and I don't even need it for a POT. But for those who do need one, they ran almost 7 miles and Rundisney is taking their total time and recording it as a 10k. I am sure for some it will be a minor difference, but for someone using that for a half POT, that minor difference will be more than doubled. #ohwelltheygavemeextrafastpasses #grumblegrumble

Yesterday I went out for my first "long" run since W&D half-half and being sick. I'd started the last week or two with short runs, then finally I am starting to add distance now that I am warmed up. I started slow with 5 yesterday. The temp was 64 (in Cleveland! in December!) and the run went great, except I had a very sore calf muscle afterwards (like, hopping down steps sore). I was afraid I would be super sore this week, but it went away in just two hours! Christmas miracle? I do feel confident in my 7 this weekend and my 9 miles next weekend before taper though now. I'd gone up to 12 for my W&D training, and luckily it seems that training is still carrying over.

Hard to believe Christmas is next week, and that I leave in 3 weeks.

On a happier note, my MDE luggage tags came in the mail this weekend and I just got a delivery notice that my magic bands are waiting for me when I get home! Now it is really real.

For those who have used MDE recently, how long is that trip to the resorts from MCO? We've done rental cars the last few trips so it's been awhile I can't remember.
We used Magical Express back in October for the first time in years and it wasn't too bad. We were at Bay Lake Towers and were the second stop I believe...might have been 45 minutes.

My house is full or oranges...I've stocked up on cold eaze...there is brand new hand soap to kill all the germs by every sink. I'm on purpose keeping an arms distance from literally everyone at work. Chicago is full of puffy eyed sneezing zombies and my husband, then daughter, and now I have caught whatever this crud is. I'm HOPEFUL that since they got over it fairly quickly that I will too and then I can just go into prevent mode again until race weekend.
So I guess, everyone wash your hands and drink your water and do all those things moms are supposed to tell you to do.

My new favorite find is halls defense (or the appropriate CVS generic version). It is like a little hard candy - much sweeter and not medicinal like a cough drop - and each one has 100% of daily vitamin C. So whenever I want a candy, I grab one of the few I toss into my purse and eat that instead. They also have Echinacea and something else in them too. So it doesn't have the entire range of cold eaze, but is much easier to pop one quickly and to transport.

If you tell me what resort you are at I can give you an estimate. I am always trying to stay at new resorts, so I think I have seen every DME configuration possible!

I'm at Bay Lake Tower!

Bay Lake for Marathon weekend? Lucky girl! Pretty nice to have the monorail option for the race, enjoy!

We picked it because we are doing pretty much just MK and Epcot and want to be able to walk to MK or hop on over to Epcot. I've never stayed on the monorail line so I'm getting really excited. I am sad that the 5k and 10k don't have the monorail option for people going to the race in the morning.
I'm wondering if it will be running post race or if we will have to take the bus back to our resort after the races as well?

Last year it took us 45 minutes to travel from MCO to POR. Unfortunately, our luggage took 4 hours...our only not-so-magical experience in 4 trips to WDW. Oh well - we're still using the MDE tags this year. I'm sure last year was an aberration.

Just be sure to have your essentials (prescription meds, magic bands, confirmation materials - snacks!) on hand when you travel.

Ah - then @CheapRunnerMike already answered! You will probably be on a bus with WL. Possibly the GF and Poly too. I think since the GF is the flagship resort at WDW, they have a policy of dropping off those guests first and then continuing onto the next resorts from there. If it is very busy when you land, you could be paired with only WL and get dropped off quickly. Or, if it is not busy, it could stop at all 4 resorts and you would be towards the last stop.

I usually estimate an hour for most of my trips. Some have been only 30 min. others were up to 90. Once you board the bus, it is about a 30 min drive to the first resort stop. And then each stop takes 5-10 min. + drive time to the next resort. We are doing a CSR/WL combo trip this time. It may be the time our flights usually land, but CSR has always been the first stop on that route for us and we are pretty excited about that since we are actually staying this time to take advantage!

Something I didn't actually realize until about a year ago - they say luggage takes 3 hours to be delivered to your room. BUT that 3 hours is from check-in at the resort. Not from when your plane lands. We usually land and go straight to the expo or a park so I had never noticed.

This is a good point. I think I am going to carry on my 5k outfit and running shoes since those would be the worst to not have. Luckily since my toddler has her own seat and her stuff packs pretty small, we will have a little extra carry-on bag room. Just realized this will be our first trip without a car seat! That's kind of freeing!

This +1000. If there is any way possible try and put at least 1 days worth of running essentials in your carry on. Particularly if you are doing the half or full you do not want to need to buy new shoes the night before the race.

2 years ago for dopey the airline lost my checked bag. They did eventually find it ( about 10 hours later). But make sure you have everything you wouldn't feel comfortable wearing for the first time your carry on. (shoes, undies ..etc)

I'm back from a successful weekend at Rocket City.I watched this video
nearly everyday during training. Thanks to the OP. (I think maybe it was Neoflynn.) 'Luck is the last dying wish of those who want to believe that winning can happen by accident, sweat on the other hand is for those who know it's a choice, so decide now because destiny waits for no man.' I never wish other runners 'Good Luck'. You make your own luck on race day.
I'm through rambling now. Everyone have a good training day!

I totally want to rip the audio from that video and put it on my marathon playlist!!

Double-edged sword of having a doctor for a best friend:

The Good: She's not afraid of a challenge and will sign up to run the Half with you RIGHT before TA registration closes.
The Bad: She'll look at your calf after you've explained the pain you've been having, see bruising you haven't even noticed and say "yeah, that's going to be a micro tear in your calf. You need ice and to lay off for a few days."

Ugh!! Good news is finding it now instead of letting it get worse? :(

Glad its only a short term issue. Hope you are back at it soon.

Bad news for me. I was just laid off from my job. Unless I can get something else lined up in the next two weeks, I don't see how I can possibly do the marathon. I'm so sad and disappointed.

I know I am very late on this reply, but I did want to wish you well. I went through a very similar situation a few years ago and just wanted to wish you luck seeking new opportunities. Good luck and I hope something comes up soon and you are able to make your trip to Disney.

Why does it happens when our goal is right around the corner, right? :charac2:
I'm having this stupid pain in my left knee for over a week. Went to my auntie clinic yesterday and found out I have the patellar tendon shortened... Good bye squat and cross training!

#WompWomp²

But gladly she thinks I'll be fine for the half!

Good Morning All! Does anyone know when you can start signing up for runner tracking on the Rundisney site?
