Marathon Weekend 2016

Second Dopey simulation complete with 20.21 mile long run today, 11.21 miles yesterday, 6.42 miles on Thursday and 6.32miles on Wednesday (10k is my preferred min run) Little sore but will pick back up in two days for CCC sim (another 10k), two days off, then Rebel Challenge simulation (10k Friday and lake loop 11.21 miles Saturday) - then I'll go into maintenance mode with 10k every other day - what's everyone else's plan for maintanence or taper?

I've posted it before but here is my remaining plan for Dopey training:

Mileage/pacing doesn't dramatically drop until about 10 days out from marathon. I haven't decided if I'll remove the workout on 12/28/15 and shift everything over one day to get one more day of "easy" workouts. I will use the strides on the Wednesday before the 5K to wake everything up.

Coast-to-Coaster here - doing Dopey, Castaway Cay Challenge, and Rebel Challenge (should get corral/bib imfo next week). It will be a mad dash from the Dream on 1/15 to MCO to catch flight to SNA to make the DL expo to get our Rebel Challenge bibs/shirts. 13 medals of bling - part of my bucket running list as I turn 50 (gasp lol) as well as getting 7 continents.

This. This sounds awesome!

Will do DL Half in Sept as we're in northern CA and go there often (might do DDD as I did that for first time this past Sept but I've done DL Half every year since 2007 (missed the inaugural one...) Hope you do the DL Half - it's a great course and Coast-to-Coast medal is a great one to earn!

I want to do the DDD as part of the DL Half weekend. Any idea if it fills up as quickly as some of the races at WDW?

Regular Coast-to-Coast has a blue background (you complete any WDW and DL half or longer), special Coast-to-Coast with pink background for completing Tinkerbell and Princess halfs in same year.

Thanks! My husband will be "thrilled" that I have learned this tidbit. :)

So I had my epiphany run today, I had a half marathon on tap and my plan called for 20 miles and so I got there early did 5 miles before hand litteraly got to the start line as the race was starting and off I went, I ran at a close to what I hope to run for the marathon and felt really strong (also tried to stretch out my back a few times as suggested here, good news it seemed to help a lot) crossed the line, dropped my medal off at my car, and completed 2 more miles. and as I was finishing up I had that moment, I knew I could run 6.2 more miles if I had too and it felt so awesome. I have 22 on tap this weekend (though I plan to run it Friday just due to some other stuff going on this weekend) and I'm going to run in my marathon outfit just to make sure nothing rubs where it shouldn't lol then I venture into taper land. Cant wait to hopefully meet up with you all race weekend

Congratulations! That was a well thought-out plan executed to perfection. You nailed it.

Your planned mileage reduction seems like a bit too much for a four week taper. I'd consider adding an 10-12 mile run on the 26th or 27th. When tapering, you want your mileage to reduce gradually, not drastically. For a four week taper, the next week would normally be about 60-70% of the peak week, then 30-40%, and then 20-30% heading into the week before the race. You probably won't lose much fitness by cutting your miles back like you have planned, but your legs won't stay as sharp.

Thanks for the advice John! After my Rebel Challenge simulation next weekend (Fri am/Sat am), I'll add in a lake loop (11.21 miles) on the 27th with a 10k the day prior to reinforce the back to back nature of the Dopey and Rebel Challenges. Will keep up four 10k/week as I've been doing regularly the past 5 months as I prepped for the DL DDD and WDW W&D half a half. Have a couple of 5k sprinkled in (Sacramento Santa Run with an added 15k afterwards Sat am) and Resolution Run on the 3rd before flying to WDW on the 6th.

We just decided to sneak in a quick DL trip next weekend (Sat pm - Mon am) to check out the Season of the Force after seeing SW:TFA on opening day so we can compare with SotF in WDW - makes Rebel Challenge simulation even more appropriate!

Dumbo was full after like 22 minutes of registration. It went super fast.
Yes, Dumbo and 10k sell out the fastest at DL, followed by 5k and then half. I am DVC and Premier AP so have always used that to register early for races on both coasts. DDD was sold out in about 15 min during the early registrations.

Previous Dopeys - does anyone remember what ridiculous amount MarathonFoto was charging for the Dopey Package?

My baby brother wants to buy that for me for Christmas and I just want to give him an idea of what to expect.

Also, has anyone ever purchased a display from Lasting Commemoratives? Any feedback on the process?

The Dopey package has been, I believe, $114.95 the last couple years. MarathonFoto has run a discount at the expo for $69.95 for a $100 digital coupon (or whatever they call it). So, all told, I think I have paid 84.90 plus whatever taxes and fees they add. I think this is most cost effective way of purchasing the package. I know I'm a sucker but I like documenting my Dopey adventures and since I have a pretty bad RAF, it helps me remember to smile.

Just wanted to say if anyone was wondering about the Skipper Canteen and whether it would be open or not. It opened December 16th. It had a soft opening today and all reviews have been very positive so far. The menu is quite different compared to other MK restaurants.

I bought their shadow box after my first Goofy. The process was pretty easy. The box wasn't the highest quality, though, and we ended up getting it redone professionally a few years later. Looks good hanging on the office wall.

That's what I figured. I'll probably just do it myself or have it done when I get home.

Good idea. Having their mat printed with the race names, finishing times, and medal cutouts is nice, but the frame is pretty cheap.

Any potential Coast-to-Coasters in this group this year? My hope is to register for the DL Half in September.

Me!
I am seriously thinking about registering myself for the Dumbo Double Dare! :):dumbo:
